  1. And the standing charge fir gas! ? I do believe the cost of an ASHP will reduce in the future, like solar panels did , when produced in larger numbers and become more common.
  2. I used “check reveals”, windows within the cavity fixed to the back of the outer skin, window sat on the outer brick cills (which came back into the cavity a little) Saves having to fill gaps with silicone which can look messy (IMO) stainless brackets and screws and foam tape between window and brick/block.
  3. But are they? ?, surely if it dies it’s stuck In one mode, either heating or DHW ?‍♂️ If I remember correctly their “rest” position is heating so only DHW is lost! And that could be compensated by using an immersion till a replacement is sourced!
  4. Why is that?, I know @ProDave does not like them. I agree and worth doing if your draining down the system anyway. Is it a change over or mid position valve (3 or 5 wires)?
  5. I do remember an article many years ago when Sumo wrestlers came to an event they had to fit extra strong toilets for them. (Mind with all that fat it’s a wonder they can find their tackle!).
  6. Perhaps it depends on what insulation, as I said mine had a BBA cert fir full fill (but the brickie had his doubts).
  7. Oh yes currently. Hopefully things will be better later ?
  8. Are they not working to a quote?. I had a main contractor for brick, block, roof, plastering and it was a fixed price, it’s called a quote (not an estimate.)
  9. great minds think alike mate ?
  10. Well with my new build we glued all the boards down with no nails or screws and it’s fine so they obviously didn’t glue it correctly. Most older floors squeak because the boards shrink a bit and the board moves up and down the nail so tightening the nail often works. Yes most joists are at 600mm centres but not all (mine are at 400mm). You could always drill loads of small holes to find the joists then measure from that to find the rest.
  11. Well we fill filled a 200mm cavity with rockwall batts in a brick and block structure, the brickie was a bit dubious about it but the insulation had a BBA certificate fir full fill. Our west wall cops Atlantic rain, and the bricks became sodden in winter, however, when I core drilled fir the ASHP pipes I found the first 10mm of the insulation wet but it had not wicked anymore than that. Because I am OCD the following summer I treated the whole wall with water repellant anyway and water now runs off it like glass (and you can’t see it at all).
  12. Yes, as it’s going to be boxed in you won’t see it, pack the 20mm and use metal strap and a couple of screws to stop it moving.
  13. I don’t see why not if it’s what you like, you can always change it in the future for tiles, wood or a different colour ?
  14. Love lies bleeding, grew them from seeds, takes a while but I like the long tassels. Funnily enough gardeners world last week showed someone’s garden with loads in, don’t see them very often, easy to grow.
  15. Met a trades person yesterday, talking about material price rises and he knows people that have started giving 24hr quotes because material price rises are so great, anything over 24hrs and you pay the extra if the prices rise.
  16. Well it took long enough but looking a lot better now, just some edges to tidy up.
  17. Then when you finish your build you can fill it with man toys!!! Uh bad pic.
  18. @KTB, what kind of work is your workshop for?. I only ask because if you are doing woodwork (like me) having a large space is very helpfull with long lengths of timber, I simply pull the cars out to give me a big space to work, another small workshop would not work for me.!
  19. I agree, be careful calling it a workshop if you are looking to claim the VAT back as workshops are not covered but garages are. Enough room to drive cars in AND open the doors, space to use workbench with the cars in it. Don’t forget all the other stuff that WILL end up in there. Lawnmowers, bikes, garden furniture, chest freezer, garden swing, buckets etc etc
  20. Our planners made lots of assumptions that simply were not true and I was able to prove my case. I went to appeal and won hands down, did it myself and frankly it was easier than applying fir planning In the first place. The appeal officer even stated the planners were not abiding by their own policies. I know they are understaffed etc etc but (IMO) generally could not organise a pissup in a brewery ?‍♂️. (rant over ?)
  21. Well I am one of those self builders that won on appeal , our planning person even told us we would probably win on appeal ?‍♂️.
  22. so, it’s a rule of finger, not rule of thumb ?????
  23. Mine was just stapled to the insulation with 70mm flow screed above, no mesh.
  24. Depends on where the copper pipe is clipped to the structure!
