  1. Worth getting a few quotes. We just slid the steels (305mm x 127mm) off the lorry, moved into place with levers and scaff poles. 2 x 5m spliced and lifted 4.8m with genies. It was a big day.
  2. Great write up as I am nearly ready to fit the same unit. Just confirming where you fitted the silencer. Between the unit and supply distribution. You said reasonably happy?
  3. I fitted the first floor joists and 22m Caberdek P5 before the rafters. It was just much easier to work off a solid platform for me. It got a little wet but not a problem.
  4. Thanks @JSHarris using your spreadsheet our build has a total heat loss power (W) of 3590 when its -10 deg C outside. Monthly heat energy input kWh) for minimum OAT in January is 1762.
  5. Just had quotes back from ESP. Seems mixed feelings from this thread. Suggested 17kW ASHP + Ecocent. Any progress reports much appreciated from a similar system in daily use. Our self build is timber frame, EWI, heaps of insulation, VCL etc, triple glazed, mvhr. @Mikey_1980 @dogman I don't expect many replies tonight......
  6. Not that helpful but a few ago I tried to replace bearings on our washing machine, took it apart and then realised it was a sealed unit ... and I can't remember which bit was sealed. Sorry.
  7. I will put in the air supply pipe but hopefully will just cap it off. Depends on the other half of this partnership. I hear you about the particle matter issue, its a huge problem which has largely been ignored. http://www.bmj.com/content/350/bmj.h2757/rr-1
  8. @epsilonGreedy Heating LPG is usually half the price of forecourt vehicle which used to be half the price of unleaded. I had a 5L V8 station wagon which was converted to lpg which also fitted an 8x4 sheet flat in the back. @Ferdinand .
  9. Hey Joe, WBS (small one) has been requested in our airtight new build and just wondering what type of pipe and diameter for air feed supply (is it compulsory) before I put down 150mm celotex, ufh and screed on ground floor.
  10. I used this. Caberdek Film coated P5 T&G 22mm + D4 glue. Screwed down as well. 2400x 600. Paid £9.75 sheet +vat. Excellent product.
  11. I still phone round my local BM's , looking for good service, free delivery and price. I opened an account with Jewson who have been very helpful and keen prices, they sent a sales person to see me and I could not fault them. TP were just a joke though I have purchased all the Rockwool, OSB3 and plasterboard through CCF Ltd which is part of the TP group.
  12. @Barney12 @ProDave I hear what you are saying regarding the MCS premium tax. NuHeat supplied UFH for us 20 years ago, they have very glossy brochures now and prices to match. About 7K for supply only ASHP 12 kW, 300L cylinder, 100L buffer etc, its just too much. Will look at Earth Save.
  13. Images are so much clearer for me.
  14. The draft SAP is 19200kWh/year and SAP value of 91.38, SAP band B. Will my EPC be very different, is it worth it?
  15. @JSHarris Its a 12kW for a very well insulated 200 sq m new build. I think the set up needs looking at. Your figures are very impressive, is there any point having solar thermal if you have PV with a diverter, can you have both? Can someone clarify the RHI, is it just based on your EPC rating and an estimate of your energy requirements or do you submit actual units used like the Solar PV tariff with a meter? Thank you.
  16. Our draft SAP says we have a primary energy demand of 19200 kWh/year. Nuheat have quoted for both heat pumps and say we have a total building heat requirement of 21913 kWh/year. RHI could pay for most of the pump and install cost. @ragg987 Do you know what your SAP energy demand was and how much you use annually ? A friend just fitted an ASHP and just had a bill for nearly £300 for a months electricity so he's not happy. @ProDave I have digger but really can"t face digging 500 metres of trench. @Alexphd1 A heat pump for less than a grand, how?? @vivienz Similar issues regarding requirements, I struggle to understand Sunamp? What does it all mean,
  17. I need to decide in the next month which system to install. Can anyone give me some pros and cons of either system. I have space for ground loops. The other question is solar thermal or solar PV diverter like immersun as I have 3.7Kw PV already. New self build timber frame, MVHR, UFH, well insulated, about 290sqm, 3 bathrooms, 4 person occupancy.
  18. Parkside seems to have every trade covered, if it works for you thats great. @PeterW @nod I am fixing 11mm OSB and wondering what size centres you recommend. The Senco 18V is great you just need a strong arm, no jams yet.
  19. I have a KS tower inside, I think @PeterW suggested putting a batten on the low transoms with some blocks to help steady it, it helps a lot.
  20. I bought locally 4 bays second hand for £700 via ebay, it had been well used by a well known Cob house builder. Lots of surface rust, some boards were a bit warped / rotten, a few ledgers bent, 1 weld broke and the adjustable jacks covered in cob which all needed a good clean. So not the best buy but it was convenient at the time as I needed to move the Solar PV before we started building. I bought another 6 bays new, just not worth the hassle after you have spent collecting. Putting up Kwikstage is a challenge by yourself and I try and secure the top of the scaffolding to the house, it sways a little.
  21. @Construction Channel The reverse button is a classic on the Makita. Will check the other parts.
  22. @jamiehamy @Barney12 Thanks for your advice. What a great bit of kit.
  23. I would have thought that would be fine using a larger beam, I appreciate transport costs are a factor. Worth giving Lamisell a call though.
  24. I used Lamisell. They have 140 x 270 as stock. https://www.lamisellbeams.com/index.php/glulam-sizes-specifications
