  1. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Coram-Showers-YD903WHI-3-Tiling-Upstand/dp/B00C2IEWKC/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1518805286&sr=8-5&keywords=coram+shower+tray+900+x+900 i put one of these in last year and its been great. However its the first shower tray i have ever installed so no comparison. Sure others will have some solid recommendations. I went with this because i wanted one with good up-stands as i was using shower wall board to come down over the upstands. Worked for me....
  2. This has been talked about before, from what i remember you want both the intake and exhaust to be on the same building face. So both on a wall and separated by a few meters to prevent contamination, so exhaust downwind of intake. The reason i think is to help with balancing the system as if your intake is in the roof and your exhaust on a wall exposed to winds there will be a pressure difference. Also if I remember correctly you dont want to be sucking in cold wet air into your roof space. Sure someone will correct me if i am wrong. I wanted to do the same thing but have been warned against it, would be good to get clarity.
  3. There is such a huge demand for accommodation at the moment that you will not struggle to rent it out over the main season. i would wait until your 100% sure of a completion date before advertising an opening date, test run everything (sure you have already) including spending a night ot two in there to really see how it works. Good luck getting it over the line and well done on a great job.
  4. Great write up, spent years living in bothies when i was in my 20s as i worked all over Scotland rebuilding mountain tracks, they were a lot less luxurious though ! Yes small is very appealing especially for short stays, i ŵould also like to build something like this in a few years time.
  5. Wowzers, great location, great looking house. I guess its like the saying “have children it will be fun” they just forget to tell you the percentage of fun v stress....... that back corner window looks impressive, beyond my understanding how its held up.... but looks great. This is a great forum and i look forward to following your build.
  6. Do you have a link to this as its something i am intrested in, thanks
  7. When i lived in Australia and ran my company I purchased a pair of 12l Quad speakers, i lived in a big house with dedicated space for my hifi set up, however i now live on the west coast of Scotland in a really small house and cannot make use of the large 12l speakers... It really comes down to how much you love good quality sound, i buy expensive tools these days as thats what i spend my time using, no time for chilling out. But if your going to be spending some quality time enjoying your music then........
  8. I put in speaker wire better than the current system justified... with the hope of one day upgrading the speakers......
  9. Looks REALLY interesting!
  10. @Hecateh fortunately for me i have a network of friends and businesses that know i just love to up cycling as a first option rather than just going out and buying new, every time a couple of the local builders merchants do stock takes they put damaged stuff aside for me, its all approved by the management and i am always very greatful. I have done so many quirky projects that i could not have justified without free materials, i get everything from windows to paving slabs. Love the challenge of using randome materials and it saves it going in land fill.
  11. Welcome, sounds like a really interesting project..... cant quite get my head around it but hope to see a picture if possible, and hello from the west coast.
  12. I think lining it will be a good idea, i would think the wood will last longer as it will have more chance to dry out. I got a whole load of c24 8x2 for free as it had fallen of the back of the stack and had been on the wet ground under an overgrown hedge, its still usable for garden work but i was shocked at how quickly some had deteriorated... i guess its just not designed to be left under a wet hedge ! So any level if protection would be a good idea. You could fold the dpm over the top and put a length of sarking on top to protect it from the elements and uv, that way your not going to get soil between the plastic and the wood and this will help to prolong its life, did this on a sheds turf roof and it worked really well.

    Shipping container/office

Have not looked closely but there is no talk of insulation.... however i wish i could get a shipping container or two to my place but access is impossible. I love the idea of creating randome outside areas that geusts can enjoy in all weathers, avoiding the midges or rain but being able to loose themselves in the location. I have steep hills on both sides of the property that could accommodate shipping containers and you would hardly see them if dug in and propperty landscaped, they would be like a modern day cave......
  14. Welcome Fredd, your opening statement is well and truely above my pay grade so i cant comment on that.... however i am sure it will provoke some vigorous debate. I use this forum as a life line of useful information and it is a fantastic resource and i am very greatful for all contributions, both relevant and non relevant to me. I also feel that as long as one joins with a good will towards the fundamental ethos that the forum then it really does not matter where you come from or what your personal stance is. There are many opinions that i struggle to find common ground with but it all helps me to become more educated beyond my own limited knowledge. I look forward to following your input and hope we can all keep cool heads.
  15. A qualified person, ie rope access trained would lower some ropes out of both windows and attach to ladder, raise ladder and secure it with ropes so it could not tip / slip. then head on up, secure your self to ladder and get the job done, well thats what i would do but i am not an authority. However finding that qualified person could be the hard part, so a tower may be cheeper.... im sure someone will have a more “normal” proposal .......
  16. 1. Non breathable....... thats all i have.....
  17. I am at some point wanting to replace the 2 existing outside doors on my cottage. They are not well sealed and as i get things done inside its becoming more obvious that they will need to be replaced to meet my airtightness aspirations. Budget is always a problem so i want to re build the frames myself and reuse or get hold of some second hand doors and then upgrade them with insulation and finish paneling. I am handy with the tools and have spent a lifetime building everything from landrovers so to bridges so feel its within my ability... however My question is. 1. Is this a sensible thing to do. 2. What would be the best way of creating an air tight seal, i.e is there a “best way” to create the seal and what type of sealing system do you recommend. 3. Other hints and tips appreciated 4. Material choices especially for frame work. I would like to start to at-least get my head around this and then start to track down materials. Thanks people of build-hub
  18. @Nickfromwales final question on this one i hope..... my existing gun lives on the foam can, you can leave it for weeks and weeks without a problem even if you dont use it, would this be the same with the pink grip foam cans ? I feel i could get more use out of the pink as it seems to be more of an adhesive than just a window / door filling foam and i have my other foam for this. Thanks
  19. Good question as i will need another gun so that i have one for my normal high expansion foam and one for my low expansion foam !
  20. Trying to track down some of this low expansion foam, i know quite a few people use it on here but cant find a link or name of a good supplier, probably order a pack of 12 gun grade 750ml any help would be appreciated. Thanks
  21. Dont know what it will do to the pumps but they are very good for you, not that that helps .... when i have used them they fully dissolve in the hot water.
  22. I dont think this sounds right..... should it not be osb and then breather membrane, batten and then cross batten then slates ?
  23. Following as i am needing some tape as well.......
  24. Yes would be intrested to know where these come from so i can look into it a bit more.
  25. Look great, will Give the roof that bit more character being second hand. Good luck !
