Looks like it could be road tailings. The tarmac they rip up when they are re doing the road surface. Black gold if you can get hold of it.

Looks great. Good luck with the build.

NHBC vs architect certificate vs any other
Big Jimbo replied to WWilts's topic in New House & Structural Warranties
The only thing i would say is punters like the old 10 year nhbc . Will they like an archictect cert as much. Neither will be worth much but..... -
Its not about building close, or on a boundary. Its about how close you are building to a neighbours building

Ex Display Kitchen - Arrived damaged
Big Jimbo replied to canalsiderenovation's topic in Kitchen & Household Appliances
I hope you didn't pay a lot. Most kitchen showrooms are just glad to get rid of ex display stuff. Mereway will have given them the units at a huge discount for display, and may have even given them for free if the showroom sells mereway cabs, and no other cab brands. Ex display appliances have a value, but the cabs very little. I once won a contract for a One off designed hand built kitchen with convex, and concave units. Completly exclusive, not another in the world. It wasn't long after i had been voted as One of the top 10 kitchen designers in the uk, so my stuff had a bit of kudos. The cabs were £35k to manufacture, and had been sold at £65k along with another £40k worth of appliances. The contract was cancelled as the guy decided not to move to the uk. I had been paid in full, and was happy to refund for the appliances, less handling (The appliances had never left the factory in Germany.) The cabinets which had cost £35K were now worthless, Although stunning. A guy in Cornwall had them for £2k, which was basically the cost for me to have them transported to him. I do hope that you get it sorted. However, no written contract, you may (by a judge) be expected to accept wear and tear, on an item which has been on display in a public showroom. I know that most of the damaged caused is due to careless removal but........ I would suggest that you go through the items, list and photograph them, and approach the Kitchen Showroom with a "We don't want this to become a problem, and would like to work with you to get this resolved" If they are a big Mereway purchaser, and the items are still current, Mereway may well supply replacement items at minimun cost (A few hundred quid) A Magic man would be able to make most of that damage disappear. At a guess about £300 quid. If you go in heavy handed right at the start, you might just end up with no resolution, and a lot of firewood. -
I got skips from Mick George in Bletchley, near Milton Keynes, for my daughters extension, so i will give them a ring.

Im in south West Herts. Not far outside the M25. My daughter is in Wistow in Cambs, so a fair distance unfortunately.

£360 a load where i am, and as you say, don't get much in when wet. We are badly ripped off down here in the Shires.

Total result on the local farmer.

Once you get it isolated, take it off. Take the washer out and turn it around. Wrap the thread that the fitting goes onto with ptfe, and bung it back on. Sorted.

Task usage range for a 1st fix frame nailer.
Big Jimbo replied to epsilonGreedy's topic in Tools & Equipment
When i was using mine on my roof a few years back, at an angle. If fired, and the nail left the gun. It went through the feather edge fence, and into the neighbours shed. They are obviously very powerful. -
Task usage range for a 1st fix frame nailer.

I have thought about trying to convert One of my first fix paslode guns to fire without having to be pressed up against something. It would stop an intruder, and drop them to the floor. You could them walk up to them, and finish them off with a couple of taps to the head. I do sometimes worry about my what goes through my mind. -
Underground water pipe - ducting or blinding?
Big Jimbo replied to Randomusername's topic in General Plumbing
I don't know, but the idea of ducting appeals. If you ever wanted to upsize one of the pipes, you could pull through, rather than digging up. -
Well i recon i am very Green. The only car i own is a Daimler made in 1975. So it's 40 years old, and was made in the UK from British steel by geezers paying tax to the brit gov on the wages they earned while building it. It would have had a carbon cost when building it, but nobody computed how much the carbon cost was, because none of them had heard of computers, or carbon cost at the time. It is 4.2 litres, and drinks like Billy the fish, but i don't do much mileage. Now i could dump it, and go out and buy a nice electric car, but that, i have no doubt would have a high carbon cost in production, let alone all these batteries people speak of. I might just be the greenest person on here ? No solar panels built in China. The only batteries come from the corner shop, and they are only tiny little AA ones for my torch, and no electric car.?

I believe, but am happy to be corrected, If you have 100mm above, you can have 100mm inbetween, pushed up tight. I was told that you can't have more inside, than you have outside, and you should always try to have less. ie;100mm outside, 50mm inside. To be honest i thought it sounded strange, but was given this information from an engineer. I think it might have been BS to get over a problem.

I don't know the answer, but i recently threw away the few JG fittings i had, as the last Two times i have used Hep. I would'nt mix them but that is just me.

Just a thought, I think you might also have to have a silt catcher before you can discharge rainwater into the sewage system
-
Had One on a site a few years back. No idea on make, or electricty usage, but it worked very well. It was used to power about 4000sq ft of underfloor heating while waiting for a gas connection.

Welcome. I would also keep one eye on the saleability. Be careful of any future purchaser being able to get a mortgage. Non standard construction still makes it more difficult to get a mortgage in England. (Seems much easier in Scotland)

You is da bad ass
-
Either that, or pure luck ???
-
Don't know if you have noticed fella. There is a soil pipe very near where you have broken through. You should be able to join up with that.

That 90 bend looks so much better than your previous efforts. ??

Ugly House to Lovely House New Series
Big Jimbo replied to Ferdinand's topic in Property TV Programmes
That made me laugh. I don't know why, be it reminded me of when i did a cinema for a client. He said to me after "You can't watch porn on it, because it gives you a huge inferiority complex" I think you can all guess why.
