  1. Just looking what I can grab locally tomorrow: https://www.wickes.co.uk/Norcros-Universal-Flexible-Tile-Adhesive-White-10kg/p/167668 Never heard of the brand. http://www.toppstiles.co.uk/tprod44751/bal-max-flex-20kg-white.html Recognised brand, but Q a bit more than needed. I hate wasting stuff. Any feelings? Alternatives?
  2. 1st floor on joists. 22mm boards that have been glued and screwed. Fairly solid but will add a bit more timber underneath where the tray goes before putting it down.
  3. Deffo use split tape around windows and doors. Take your time. I bought some Gerband tapes from Sirch Specialist Building Materials. Good price when I bought it.
  4. Fantastic @Nickfromwales. Bit of undulation in the floor and surprisingly under the tray so I think its best to butter under the tray as well. Rather the tray be slightly higher off the floor than redo / on the piss. Will see if I can get the ceilings skimmed first. 1st time putting a shower tray in - bit nervous if truth be told.
  5. I am about to buy a new led torch - thats it. Dont want too much stuff hanging around our site - bound to get broken & ties up cash too early! Light positions & rainfall shower position dictates max 300mm head for ours, I assume you've already got their positions sorted?
  6. The rrp must be a piss take! We are going for a 200mm head. Not bought yet - about 12mths too soon for us!
  7. this bathroom could be done before Xmas - if yesterdays progress continues unabated....
  8. Like a few others on this thread I'm now about to put down my shower tray. I have a few queries. Going to use flexible floor tile adhesive - is there a preferred brand? How deep a bed did you all put down? I assume its a solid bed rather than the normal tiled trowel pattern? How long before it can take any weight? Cheers.
  9. Very common. We told our vendor that we wanted the same rights over their property, that soon saw some changes. We have got a signed letter from then stating they will not develop behind us, pp came through a while back, i.e. dont trust anyone and dont sign a contract you are not happy with - the relationship may change and do you really want someone else controlling what you do?
  10. Fit high flow gutters as standard. We've got 4 downpipes for a 250m2 build but two take prob 75% of the water. All seems good. If the gutter is level or only a slight slope the you could add another down pipe at the 'high' end - you've got the depth of the gutter to play with and it would work as an emergency downpipe.
  11. 1. Our solicitor said that this wasnt legal in reality. In our contract the word 'reasonable' appears. 2. I assume they want to build next door to you? 3.we threw that one out. Taking the mick. Why self build someone elses design? 4. See above. It took us months to get the contract sorted, be prepared. Eventually we met them face to face, lot quicker. Good luck
  12. Grouting B&B - you need to make it fairly sloppy - even with wetting the beams & blocks (so there was water ponding on them) I still found it dried out quickly. You need to be fairly forceful with the brush so that the mix does actually get down between the blocks / beams. Its Q a fun way of spending a few hours.
  13. We just used polystyrene sheets - bc was happy with this.
  14. I strapped ours, seems pretty rigid. Insulated cavity closures fitted. Window frame taped to the reveals.
  15. they could always hide somewhere and not get paid..... Why did they bring water proofs if they didn't expect to use them? Farming in my blood - weather doesn't bother or stop me (unless its a howling gale - its the wind rather than the rain) - good luck with it.
  16. with them on the end of my legs I'd need to upgrade the rest of the old clothing I wear! They do look pretty cool though. What do they look like with a bit of cement on and a bald patch on top?
  17. looking forward to seeing the pictures....... We've got this all coming our way next year hopefully. I still miss the blogs.....
  18. if he spots you first I guess he will make a sharp exit - before you see him. I get frustrated with my slow progress but at least I move forward - mm by mm mind. Wouldn't an sds drill be quicker to chisel out the pipe?
  19. Hi @oranjeboom, feel for you there, I guess the anger has subsided now. That must be taking ages to do and its hardly exciting work. Just when you want to be going forward you end up backtracking a bit. Like you say - good tradespeople are rare as hell. I normally do everything myself - I find it less stressful, but the trade off is more time. If you were close by I'd come and help for a few hours.
  20. They are nrv as well - noticed that while pressure testing them. The plate supplied does need to be slightly wider.
  21. Those two screws sit on a hexagonal 'nut', undo it and you will find some plastic bits - filters in there. You can actually see the filters if you look in the hot and cold supply.
  22. @ProDave - what about access to the filters? We've got the same shower - I've allowed for access to the filters - it from the front. Another 2 holes needed if you want that option.
  23. Got a Wunda manifold & some 15 to 16mm adapters into rads. Will get it plumbed within the next month or so.
  24. Got 2 of these fitted - boiler prv & uvc prv. Simples.
