  1. Man of many talents.
  2. is that the left over muck?
  3. looks good - very good. Well deserved beer.
  4. it is a lot bigger than the previous picture. Painful cost but I guess you haggled that off the plot cost! Must have taken some time as well. How do you handle the drainage? I'm guessing you don't want any water appearing on the face of that wall?
  5. Thats a lot of footing for what looks like a 4ft rising to 6ft of bank! Must have been costly. Ouch.
  6. What a site. This is a great phase - enjoy it.
  7. Cheers both - something to have a go at tomorrow evening. ☺️
  8. Dear all, We have metal web joists and some rather dodgy strongbacks - which I should have got sorted when the timber frame went up (won't make that mistake again) - I'm fixing the strongback issues but where the showers & bath are going I am going to further reinforce the joists by gluing and screwing some 18mm shuttering ply to the sides. It may not make much difference but I will feel better having tried. Cracked on with the first one tonight. All going well until I put the D4 glue on and got it all in place - the D4 is just too runny - it was dripping out like crazy. So my question - is there a glue which will glue wood to wood that doesn't have the consistency of runny cream? cheers
  9. 50mm rwa 45 in the timber frame, normal pb one side and soundbloc on the other side. Carefully made sure there was an air gap between the sound insulation and the boards. Seems ok to me. I was surprised how much heavier the soundbloc boards were.
  10. I was expecting a blackadder quote there @Construction Channel - 'a plan so cunning you could put a tail on it and call it a weasel' The comedy in the good old days was class (and everyone was forced to make everything themselves because China hadn't been invented - you two would fit in a treat). Off to my site now for a few hours of DIY.
  11. 'attempted plastering' would be a more accurate term to start with.
  12. remember to take plenty of pics to remember the occasion!
  13. Gas? Oil? Thats going to be tricky. A bigger one that can modulate down may be a solution.
  14. ps @Nickfromwales - I've left the PRV on the tank as well - I will pop a container under it (don't want to take it outside - it will impact on my airtight barrier) just in case it blows. There's another one on the boiler. Having typed all this I now feel a bit better!
  15. bugger. This is the second one on the heating system (1st one is in the system boiler) - just added it because I thought it would give a bit more slack. If I shut off the valve then the system boilers own ev will still be plumbed in. So the 24kw system boilers ev does the UFH (~100l) and this one does the rads. Once we move in - I may go back and tweak this so my fellow Welshman can up the mark to 10/10
  16. thought I'd close this one off... the heating system is now in and complete. Mains gas boiler feeds a 90l buffer that then feeds two Wunda manifolds - ufh down stairs & rads upstairs. All individual room stats. A bit of cable management needs to happen but otherwise I'm pleased. Its taken Q a bit of work but all good learning. Its a @Nickfromwales design
  17. blue grit is great for removing dead skin - just let it set first. Good addition to any bathroom - shame to skim over it. No idea why you would want to put it on PB but its a free world
  18. I think @Onoff should spread some jam on his walls - the plaster won't stick to it & he will give up. BIL steps in and sorts the job out. Result.
  19. Neat. Thanks @Nickfromwales
  20. So obviously a man who knows when to make use of others abilities?
  21. Neat bend on that pipe @Nickfromwales - how did you do that? Bit of heat?
  22. All beyond my woodworking ability. Respect.
  23. If this turns out well then I'm going to do all of my downstairs, naked and streamed live.
  24. Once the plasterer has been, you will find the roof is ~3mm closer to the floor - no stilts needed then. If £ for plastering is limited - have you thought about crowd funding? Selling a kidney?
  25. As others have said - leave scrim etc to the professional plasterer. Mine wanted all joints double scrimmed. I brushed sealer on all boards - followed what the adhesive companies suggested. While he / she is doing the skimming, you can be thinking about your retractable shower head and supping the froth off the top of a quality beer. You've saved a lot of £ doing the boarding etc - best not cock it up now!
