No doors yet - need to get linings in so we can board up to them. I suppose what I'm asking is - if the two doors are 533mm each, the gap between the vertical linings needs to - 533 + 533 + 5mm? Is this correct? Will try to sketch something tomorrow. Thanks.

Humbling to see how some of you are coping with pressures that I can't imagine. I have a lot of respect for you. C

Evening all. Got a bit of a puzzle regarding door linings. Fitted standard ones today but I've got some to make tomorrow - odd sizes etc. This is where I would value some input. Example: master bedroom wardrobe - the gap is 1150mm so allowing 27mm each side for the handmade lining (total of 54mm), I think the widest doors I can fit are 533mm - so 1066mm + 54mm = 1120 + bit of slack = gap is ok. So if the two doors are 533mm each (are they? or are the doors slightly less than this so they fit into a 533mm lining?) I assume the lining gap can be 1066mm? Or should it be a few more mm than this? I'd like to avoid having to alter the doors if I can. Hope thats clear. Thanks

Bath Surround / Boxing In, and concealed pipework
CC45 replied to Onoff's topic in Bathrooms, Ensuites & Wetrooms
Im thinking we may be able to finish our build before THE project is done - and we havent first fixed yet! -
I never bothered with them - you can push them into celotex. Hand was sore by the end.

Its great to see this starting again - its the best soap opera that I know of..... My money is on this one getting to 100 pages. I do enjoy the banter to be honest -
Our buffer tank (to feed ufh & rads upstairs) is 90l direct. Telford cylinders. Nickfromwales did the deal & they were happy for me to pick them up (we live local) so saved a few £ again.

Our floor boards continue under the upstairs timber walls. I thought it was the norm.

Guilty - sorry.?

As we approach door frame fitting this weekend, I was mulling over how much gap we need under the doors for the mvhr system? Plan is for carpets upstairs and tiled down stairs. Does anyone have any suggestions? It clearly needs to allow air to flow but not too much of a gap - would 10mm above tiles be too much? What about above carpet?

I got our join welded (no idea of the correct name for it) and moved the stop cock to a better position. Seems the welded joints are more reliable or at least Im told that!

I keep some 1.2 dewalt batteries charged - they are handy to fill the gap while I wait for my big ones are charging. Crofter is right about the weight - sometimes you just want something light and easy to move. I've got 18v Dewalt kit - no issues at all.

Another progress update in my blog
CC45 replied to ProDave's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
Good progress Dave, how long before downstairs is done? -
Ive done as you suggested - poss to use a 35mm box then as well. Just feels more solid. It is a fiddle & does take time.
-
Done the same as Prodave before - it worked really well. One with steam also takes off the old paint as well.
-
Sounds as if course is the way forward then. Prob loose since Ive not got a tool that deals with collated screws! Thanks

Hi all, Just started fixing some plasterboards - been using up some screws I had to hand - fine threaded plasterboard screws. Need to buy some now - been suggested to me that I should use the course threaded ones - does anyone have any advice / preference? Thanks

Is that a before or after model?

Hi all, Got hold of a Rothenberger unit on ebay at a sensible price - so been doing some wet testing - left at 5bar for up to 24hrs. No pressure drop or drips anywhere so will cover up now and get on with all the other jobs. Thanks for all your comments.

We will be 3 years next Feb, airtightness stuff was ok but putting battens on the timber frame - and getting it plumb etc at the same time was a test. I wont ever be doing that again, id rather have 'character' in the walls. Hopefully first fix done before new year - I love it when plasterboard goes up. Doing it all myself so its slow progress, should find some help really - more done in a day and more enjoyable.
