Is he allowed to covertly film people? The planning and enforcement people probably know of him but are duty bound to respond. Just follow the law to the letter. Are you happy to live there once its done? How old is he?

Does self building improve health?
CC45 replied to epsilonGreedy's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
Not sure it does really, you get periods when you think all is good and its positive and then you have stressful periods and it does nothing for your health. Its a roller coaster and your health and outlook is heavily influenced by it. I'm pretty tired physically most of the time. If you do little of the work yourself then this may be different. Enjoy the phase you're at and don't burn out yet. -

Cumberland is a good ale. Even better in the Lakes after a good hill day. ? -
And by the time you've read it all, you should have saved up enough cash to pay for it to be done for you! ?

If its sold as compost then it has to pass certain tests - heavy metal content, germination percentage being two important ones. If its sold as agricultural soil conditioner then its very unlikely to have passed them. You should be OK with it.

Understanding building regs about stoves (Scotland)
CC45 replied to ProDave's topic in Stoves, Fires & Fireplaces
nice looking stove. Are outlets beginning to get ready for new stock? How fiddly is fitting the combustion air adapter? -
What a brilliant blog. I lived in Writtle near Chelmsford in Essex for 16 years, I left 7 years ago - if I was still there I'd be tempted to offer a hand. In fact I would be there! Def the pets parts unfolding here.

The Build - Ground works - Final part
CC45 commented on Redoctober's blog entry in Our Journey North of the Border
Thats a neat and tidy site. Looks good so far. Think our ground works was about 30k but that included b&b floor, soak aways, stoning up around house. It is what it is. I think this is a nice stage of a build - not that many decisions and progress seems fast. Enjoy it. -
Sealing service ducts into house
CC45 replied to lizzie's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
Weve got this to some extent - light fittings pass through the exterior wall and into the house etc. If small I was just going to seal them with silicone - well forced into the hole, if bigger I guess expanding foam first. A few on here know which silicone sealants are safe to use with electric cable - I cant remember now, but a search on here might reveal the answer. For rats a few seem to have used scouring pads. Finishing details seem to take a long time. Let us know what you do in the end. -
Dont do it when people are at home and using their facilities - a quiet mains soil pipe may help to reduce positive pressure in the system. Are you going to video it and post up here??

Mine worked around what was there - not ideal but can be done. Some drop it completely if theres a delay before brick work starts, then perhaps use tressles for a while and then get scaff back on site. Ask your brickies.

Pack it - why not? You could have set those rocks into the floor - that would be cool. It will all look v different when you get around to fully boarding it - crack on, lets see what it looks like. -

Ideally position such that if you go to pick something off it with wet slippery hands and fumble it ends up down the bog or if the item is heavy - chipping the bowl! -

Compared to the rhs pocket, the one on the left could do with a few more screws by the look of things! Hate to see your standards drop when its all so close to finishing? -

Good to see a free spirit at work......

Ive got that HR ceiling arm. No washer came with it? the tap fitting cant move - 3 screws hold it in place. I put loads of ptfe on it and screwed it hand tight into the tap fitting. Pressure tested up to 6 bar - no issues. As @PeterW said no stillsons necessary!
-
Ive just fixed a tap outlet to some ply - up behind the plasterboard. Once the new skim is dry its going to be drilled to expose the outlet and then ptfe and screwed in. Job done.

@Triple07 nice pad. Love that front elevation. No need to apologise for Scottish weather - spend loads of time hill walking in it. Not great for building though.
