Floor bounce - PosiJoist Floor Vibration checks
CC45 replied to readiescards's topic in Floor Structures
We've got 5m span with 254 posi joists at 600mm. Should have done them at 400mm. -
Hi all, Just about to purchase suitable cable for satellite connections - think I need some wf100 - happy to order on line - does anyone have a recommended supplied. Also after some cat6 cable - anyone know who supplies a quality product? Thanks
-
137,000 - that seems v cheap - how much per m2?
-
If I was on national tv I'd lie about my costs - wouldnt you?
-
We've done what you suggest but we went up one more row with the vents (TP also sell these telescopic vents). I would not put them level with the ground floor. Once you've got sign off you could always close them off.

Thats great - thanks. I will ring around in the new year and see what I can get hold off. I liked the manufacturer that @Onoff suggested - whats the quality like? Cpc also have solutions that I will follow up. Not too keen on the @JSHarris fitting - ours is on view and Im not sure that I want to see that, would work ok in an office though. Plenty to sort out....

Just resurrecting this thread with a few questions of my own (at the stage I need to think about this now).... Need to get cable in now for FM/DAB / TV / Satellite / Data and to this effect I've put in 2g sockets ready for it. I assume grid switches would be installed. However they seem to be expensive or with a rather limited choice. I'd like it to be white and with no BT socket. So I've ruled out: https://www.amazon.co.uk/MK-K3564DABWHI-2-Gang-Quadplexer-Secondary/dp/B005BDAVM8 If this had a data (RJ45) socket then it would be perfect. So yesterday I looked at: https://www.sparksdirect.co.uk/mk-logic-2g-tv-fm-dab-sat-x-2-quadplexer-with-telephone-secondary-and-rj45-socket#.WkNgMGYiHcc if this didn't have the BT socket then it would be perfect (apart from the price). So last night I moved onto looking at dual sockets + 1g FM/DAB/ Sat 1 + 2 quadplexer + another 1g RJ45 socket. https://www.screwfix.com/p/appleby-galvanised-steel-dual-35mm/48234?tc=DA4&ds_rl=1248181&ds_rl=1245250&ds_rl=1249481&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI9KuQ0-mp2AIVjrvtCh2eVQCYEAQYBCABEgLPBPD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds&dclid=CI-n_9TpqdgCFQzIUQodXjoHow http://www.gil-lec.co.uk/mk-logic-k3554dab-tv-fm-dab-satx2-quadplexer-socket https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/1-Port-Single-Socket-Rj45-Network-Cat-5e-Faceplate-Ethernet-Wall-Plate/1856330460?iid=122697758455&_trkparms=aid%3D555018%26algo%3DPL.SIM%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D49129%26meid%3Dfe3e7bca9ae2462fb65ee51c53e9f62f%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D191412252543&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851 Should I just bite the bullet & accept a (redundant) BT socket OR mess around with the dual set up OR investigate further the grid options? Any suggestions gratefully received

We started 3 years ago - another year and poss a bit more to go. Self build is very different to custom build.

BCO around this morning to check out 1st fix elecs & plumbing upstairs -?Plasterboard for upstairs delivered midday and now moved upstairs - even fitted one before quitting for the day. Ordered a PB hoist - normally I just tough it out with some mates but must be getting soft / running out of mates. Asked BCO about sound insulation - didnt seem that worried what I did. I've narrowed it down to: 1. 90mm knauf frametherm slab 38 (as per BR spec agreed with BC). V rough online prices seem to work out at around £3.75/m2 2. Rockwool RWA accoustic insulation slab, 75mm is £3.71/m2 or 100mm £4.16/m2. The 100 would be compressed by 10mm to fit the 90mm frame -I'm assuming this will not reduce the sound reduction much? Or do I just stick to 75mm? 3 knauf earthwool accoustic roll. 100mm @ £2.64/m2 Tempted to use the RWA in the stud walls that surround bathrooms & then use the accoustic roll else where and in the floor voids (prob upgrade the PB to 15mm on the downstairs ceilings to help reduce sound further.) Need to measure up and ring around after new year. A positive day on site today. Just in case I don't post again - Merry Christmas to you all.

Planning for a busy few weeks, need to push the project on a bit if we are to move in within the next 12 months. Need to order some before the BM shut for Xmas..... spec was for wicked slabs but wondering if 100mm roll would be ok - it would be a lot cheaper.... Is it as effective? What have you used? Any words of wisdom vratefully received!

Hi @ProDave, our house doesnt have heating yet and its temp tends to vary around 5 to 7 deg depending on outside temp. We've had some low temps here in the midlands although only for a few nights - shorter than you've had. I'm happy to work in those temps but not sure I'd get the missus to live there at those temps. You are lucky.
-
Well we seem to have survived the cold snap...... The thaw has really set in tonight.
-
@chrisb any chance of a cheeky picture? I've had 3kw of oil filled heaters going flat out since 10am and the air temp has lifted by 2deg, not too bad considering its been freezing all day. Up to 7.2deg inside when I left tonight cf to -4deg outside, hopefully they will keep on top of the job tonight - better weather tomorrow. Slab is cooler than this. Hopefully before the next cold snap we will have heating sorted!
-
@Ferdinand got one of the oscillating ones - its good but as @ProDave says I dont trust them enough to just leave on unattended. Been using it when I'm in there working. Bought two oil filled ones last week and I will leave these on tonight. Its going to be cold but at least its not days and days of it. Normal weather due Wed. Lets hope.

Thanks for responses - going to get some heaters going in there, no time to rig willis heater & not likely to get hold of a plumber with such short notice. Why couldnt the cold wait until Feb? Lesson learnt - get some crude heating mechanism in before winter next time.

This weekends fun & games was adding more loft insulation, we went from 100mm to 450mm and it was a pain to do with very little working space. The cold snap has prompted me to do this. The digital thermometer (positioned upstairs) in the house has been varying between ~ 5 to 10deg over the last month or so, this is around 1 or 2 degrees more than the thermostat on the Wunda ufh manifold suggests (downstairs).. The house does not have any heating - thats due to come in January. Today (with the loft hatch open - for the insulation) with 2 oil filled rads + a fan heater running (~ 5kw in total) the temp rose upstairs to 7deg (started at ~ 6) and up to 8 after an hour with the loft hatch shut but this is obviously air temp. I measured the slap temps at between 4 & 5deg. The ufh pipe in 70mm below surface, on top of 225mm of celotex on top of a b&b floor. With up to minus 10 predicted around here for tomorrow night - how concerned do I need to be about the ufh freezing? I am planning on leaving the oil filled rads on overnight (3kw). Not too sure I can do a lot else. With the temps then predicted to rise hopefully ther wont be any damage. Right to worry or not?

Dont really need much heat in there so that is a good idea - didn't know you could get down to 100w. .....

I was going to use the following for the towel rail element https://www.screwfix.com/p/kudox-electronic-heating-element-controller-800w/64054?tc=DA4&ds_rl=1249799&ds_rl=1245250&ds_rl=1249481&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI0OzXxNnp1wIVAbcbCh3YzgaZEAQYESABEgI-E_D_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds&dclid=CIf02cvZ6dcCFUXIUQodSBgCUg We've got this one in the current house - it seems to do a decent enough job. Due to the size of the bathroom - I can mount this close to the rad - its more than 600mm away from from any water source so outside zone 2. Not bought the electric ufh kit yet but likely to be similar to this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Electric-Underfloor-Heating-Mat-Kit-160w-per-m2-All-Sizes-in-this-Listing/152309107086?_trkparms=aid%3D555018%26algo%3DPL.SIM%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D49480%26meid%3Dbe211e235abd4c37b445cd5745a162df%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D6%26mehot%3Dpp%26sd%3D332378962336&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851 The stat is the same as we have with our Wunda ufh so we have a fighting chance of understanding how to control it. I suspect both will be off for most of the year - just on for special treat. Its not a deal breaker to move the fused spur to a more hidden location. Food for thought.

didn't know you felt like that Nick! Thanks for the reply - 1 less box on each wall now. Tidy.

Hi all, prob a question for @ProDave I guess but then Q a few of you prob know the answer to this query. Just putting 1st fix in - alternating between soil pipe & electrics to minimise boredom. Tonight I've started putting back boxes in for electric UFH. I'm working on the following principles: 1. Spur taken from ring main into double pole fused spur 2. Fused spur to thermostat and then onto the electric UFH. Matt is rated at 300watts total. In the same bathroom 'we' also 'need' an electric heating element in the towel rad (also plumbed into the wet system) for the summer months - so my query is - can I run the control unit for the towel rad from the same double pole fused spur as the electric UFH? This would minimise the 'clutter' I have on the walls. Combined, both would be ~ 600w Any thoughts? CC

Ive got the dewalt one - no regrets at all. Would buy the same again.

For the bathroom I can plumb the shower and bath on individual 40mm runs and the sink goes into a branch. Aav on sink was always the plan. Plenty of fall for the 40mm runs is available. Ensuite - only a shower in there. I was going to tee the basin and shower into one 40mm pipe. Aav on sink again. I think it will be fine. Thanks for advice Nick. Hwyl Cc

Light at the end of the renovation tunnel.

Whats next then? -
Bathroom (picture 1) - I could but I'd have to put a branch back in there somewhere (I can't seem to find a 50mm boss adaptor except those that go into 110mm) - do I need to? The max run will be 2500mm & at 1:40 I'd need 62.5mm of fall (2.5") - I've got that within the floor void (and more) and I could run 40mm directly to the shower and another directly to the bath if necessary (can't see both discharging at the same time though). Ensuite (picture 2) - the max run here is < 1500mm so I'd need 1.5" fall at 1:40 - got that as well. Not so easy to put a branch in here for a 110 - 50mm socket - unless I replace the bend at the floor joist with a branch & then put the adaptor in there (just worried that jobbies may be tempted to 'rest' there). I could put a 40mm y branch in & then run 2 x 40mm pipes but I'm not too sure its necessary but happy to accept your far greater experience Nick.
