  1. use a roller for the tanking membrane - better overlapping and more even depth. Also quicker - although you won't obviously be interested in that!
  2. I used a brush for the primer. A roller would work fine. I then used this https://www.toolstation.com/shop/Painting+%26+Decorating/d150/Tile+Adhesive+%26+Grout/sd3107/Mapei+Shower+Waterproofing+Kit/p71005 Cheaper than screwy. This kit is a cheap way of getting the tape. When the tanking solution ran out I then bought this to finish the job https://www.screwfix.com/p/mapei-aquadefense-waterproofing-membrane-7-5kg/8531D?tc=BT3&ds_kid=92700030932191871&ds_rl=1245250&ds_rl=1249484&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI4MXP-ZnK3AIVRbDtCh0UggmVEAQYAyABEgKYbfD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds&dclid=CJyg0PuZytwCFfQW0wodoDkFGg If you need more tape then you may find the 1st one is the cheap way of getting 10m of it - the rest of the stuff is effectively free. Go for it. Primer does more surface than the kit tanking membrane will.
  3. I primed it all - not that expensive so a cheap insurance. Tanking has well bonded to mine.
  4. Temp does have a big affect on pressure, so could well be that. Chill. Tanking wasnt as bad as I thought it would be - just a bit slow with a brush / roller combo. Ive got tiling to do next - putting it off but need to man up now really.
  5. I sent catnic our drawings - they told me what lintels to get. Worth a try?
  6. They need to go in first I guess then you will need to slide the joists along unless the split the distance in half and use two overlapping strong backs. Not a lot of extra cost or time really.
  7. @nod- like additional strongbacks - could be worth putting these in as joists get installed - if possible. I've added extra screws to all my strongbacks and it did make a difference.
  8. I'd go 2g again - if money was not a consideration - aluclad 3g Unlikely to last another 30 years on this planet so difficult to press the button when the price difference was £000's. get a few quotes and then go from there.
  9. I would put them at 400mm centres now - mate has done that and his floor is solid BUT if you use copper for plumbing you will find it a pain.
  10. We put 2g in, the cost saving will pay for years worth of gas. We've spent the saving on other energy saving extra's - eg MVHR. Your decision may be influenced by sound insulation and reduced window drafts - 3g better than 2g here. All the decision making is a killer.
  11. Any hints @Nickfromwales? Merchant open tomorrow for essential purchases! Cheers

    Piles are go!

The title attracted my attention here - thought it was off subject until I started reading... ?
  13. OK Nick - any particular spec of ply?
  14. Too much like hard work. and laying it all twice isnt duplication? ?
  15. If this carries on then you are going to have a hell of a house. Er in doors is lusting after that stone - we havent had feellings like that in this house for years! ?
  16. Use a tile saw https://victoriaplum.com/product/vitrex-tile-saw?LGWCODE=TTA011;147049;8907&_$ja=tsid:47485|cid:919846264|agid:48815789507|tid:pla-354389290963|crid:218975649757|nw:g|rnd:12231381057027809500|dvc:t|adp:1o1&utm_medium=paid_search&network=google_shopping&utm_campaign=919846264&adgroup=48815789507&utm_term=TTA011&matchtype=&ds_kid=92700024889514057&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI57qoxY2s3AIVyLHtCh1C5wiTEAQYASABEgLdZPD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds&dclid=CI6FqseNrNwCFWkw0wodmOcICw You know it makes sense. Never let it be said that your mother raised a jibber!
  17. threshold for the door?
  18. so this .... https://www.ctdtrade.co.uk/ardex-af-200-plus-uncoupling-matting-adhesive?size=213&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI1NHJyL6r3AIVybvtCh0_xQEIEAQYAiABEgJejfD_BwE with http://www.tilegiant.co.uk/4mm-square-notched-trowel.html @Nickfromwales - are you happy to use Ditra matting...... or do you always use ply? off to the site now for a few hours of tool time....
  19. OK, thought it would get more complex! The 22mm boards are glued and screwed & 600mm centres so @Nickfromwales would spread PVA glue on the floor with a 2/3mm trowel & stick some 9mm ply down (what type?) & then screw as well (10x1" screws? - any particular type?). I assume the ply then needs sealing before tiling? @nod would use Ditra stuck down with Ardex (this OK? https://www.ctdtrade.co.uk/ardex-x-7-standard-setting-flexible-tile-adhesive?color=301&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI7JS-j7Wr3AIVB7DtCh3atwXfEAQYAyABEgLyj_D_BwE) - I assume a 6mm trowel would be OK? Since both of you are way more experienced than me I would be foolish not to use either of these techniques.... but which one????? Always so many choices.
  20. thats 2/3 years gross salary for a lot of people. Would it add that amount to the house? Our professional fees have come to £4,496 so far - this excl plot purchase fees but includes all designs, planning, building control, drainage design etc About £18/m2.
  21. B&B is a godsend when you've had no end of rain and you just want a floor in! I was thankful when ours went in.
  22. so against my natural tendency to pick up tools and do something I'm sat at home pricing up stuff and ordering - its murder but has to be done. Tiling is my next job - my trusty tiler is booked up to Nov / Dec and I can't wait that long so I will do it; he called around on Tuesday and suggested the following (floor is 22 egger board on 600mm joists): 6mm Hardi backer board stuck down with 'sticks like' & screwed. He said his experience of flexible adhesive and the backer board wasn't good so uses the 'sticks like' now. Has anyone else done this? Should I stick to normal flexi tile adhesive? (no pun intended here) What screws should I use? not great reviews of the hardi screws.... A friend has used Ditra matting (again stuck down with flexi adhesive) - its not massively different in price per m2 - is this a better option? Too many options nowadays .... Any words of wisdom would be good!
  23. I've had a few birds nest in the garage - will be boarded out next year - I will miss not seeing them.
  24. Theres the rest of the house to go - dont get too downhearted yet!
