  1. I've not got air conditioning at the moment, so just aware that they have a control for it. It would work on the room temperature, but yes pretty sure it'll be like a normal thermostat in reverse, and only turn the AC on when required. Ive got one main stat (as this does all the main work, and opentherm calculations for the boiler), and then individual radiator thermostats on each radiator to create a zone for each room. That tied in with a manifold creates a very flexible efficient heating system. I was going to go with EvoHome at the begining, but it didn't have a crucial feature for me, multi-user geo fencing, not sure if they've added it yet, it could be done with EvoHome but relied on several apps to achieve it, whereas Tado has the functionality natively, as do a few others now, but Tado was the first one.
  2. Tado is a good system for central heating controls, I have it and its always been spot on, they also have an air conditioning control too.
  3. I'm not sure how well that would work. They are really cheap to buy: https://www.toolstation.com/bostik-fibres-for-concrete/p69060
  4. Put some polypropelene fibres in your cement mix too to stop any cracking if you are pouring your own mix
  5. The external blinds for roof windows make a massive difference, i've got them on all of my south facing ones. Quite cheap really too.
  6. Personally I can't see a problem with this, as long as the water pipe is properly insulated as it should be in any trench, and pea gravel I think this should be fine.
  7. I'm not so sure they all have anti-bacterial and anti-static coatings on the pipe, don't quote me on that tho
  8. If money is no object, yes thick porcelain tiles are the answer to the billionaire look to park your ferrari and lambo on! ?
  9. You can always use the primer if you are concerned about adhesion, guaranteed to stick then!
  10. Mu Value for OSB3 is said to be around 500 compared with between 50 and 100 for moisture resistant chipboard, so I would say its pretty much vapour tight anyway
  11. I read an article suggesting that standard OSB3 wasn't actually airtight, might have been in passive house plus, they put a section on a wall, taped it, and then put a membrane over the top to ensure only air passing through the OSB3 was registered, and they found it to be poor for airtightness. Personally I can't see how it isn't airtight, as there is so much resin in the mix, but clearly this example showed it wasn't. 12. Bad news if you had any gas appliances, one worth noting for anyone really that
  13. I will also likely have to tackle this same problem, a neighbour over the road has a wood burner, and when we have easterly winds, the smoke comes over, which also tends to coincide with the coolest temperatures, so almost a guarantee in winter months. I have asked several MVHR suppliers, and all have said carbon filters, but none could guarantee they would work, and they can be quite expensive. There are cheaper versions online, high flow for hydroponics setups, so I may end up DIYing something out of one of these. This is what i was originally looking into: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Carbo-Air-50-Systemair-High-Quality-Carbon-Filters-Odour-Control-Hydroponics/152463760843?hash=item237f8c5dcb:m:my_06Dq0-ZHmaU_bAypD_Qg Would just need an airtight box building round it, with a pipe going to the outside for the intake.
  14. Is that the quiet vent kit? I'm considering buying that, would love to know what you think about it. Seems to be a hell of a lot cheaper than all of the other manufacturers.
  15. Are you wanting to move this wall to a different location? If so, you'll need to consult a structural engineer to see how far you can move it, as the area for supporting the timber will likely sit in a particular zone in the middle.
  16. Just make sure it isn't freely accessible by any random person, can guarantee some idiot will come and turn it on and run off, running up a huge bill.
  17. Happy to do it for you if you let me know your final wall make up, type of materials and measurements.
  18. I got it off eBay, the guy has got another if anyone is looking for one. its a vortice hr200 unit
  19. Sad I know, but really excited for my bargain MVHR unit to turn up today. Given it a quick test, and all is OK, will be a while before I get everything else sorted out, but hoping to have it all installed before the winter comes this year. Don't think it was too bad for £420, and I had £25 in vouchers to use from Nectar points! Its getting installed in a cupboard in the new dining room, and then all the pipe work and manifolds will be in the loft space of the bungalow.
  20. Will be a bit more sound insulation too from the 15mm
  21. Is there also still some questions over smart meters and Solar PV if you have it? I know at one bit you couldn't have a smart meter if you had PV, as it charged you for your solar generation as well as what you imported, that was many years ago though, maybe they've fixed that now. The only story I have about smart meters is from a friend who's elderly mother got one installed, he always did monthly meter readings before it, then he noticed the amount she used went up dramatically after install, he rung and asked her if she was doing anything different, to which she said no, he rung supplier and they remoted into it and applied some kind of patch!! Following this it went back to what he expected, but if he hadn't said anything she would have been charged more presumably forever! For that reason alone I won't have one, give me analogue any day!
  22. If they are plastic vents, just break them if they don't come out easy with a lump hammer, clean everything out, make a liner out of something waterproof (tile backer board is good for this) to stop anymore stuff dropping down, and then replace the grille, they are only cheap off the internet. if its a terracotta vent, same as above, and then replace with plastic. All done from the outside.
  23. no need to plaster the walls anymore, just use that and then paint it lol Flexible, airtight VCL in a tin.
  24. You haven't got much time between now and MBC starting work to get this sub base in, 240t is a hell of a lot of material, I remember having 21t delivered and that was a lot to move, admittedly I did it by hand.
