  1. I've got cat 6 to every room, never used it once. Apparently good if you have virgin though? Think Wi-Fi boosters are the future
  2. C'mon @AliG I know you jocks are tight but a man with a house as big as yours getting his hands dirty digging a hole like this?! Can't you get a local smackhead on the job. Is @ToughButterCup young strapping labourer available
  3. Yes albeit not apples with apples. Been in this place 1 winter and before that was in a place I built 2016 ish. Similar u values similar size except this one a bungalow. Last air score around 3 this place just above 1. This place has mvhr, old relied on passive ventilation. I think the heating bills are very similar. Deffo no massive drop here. I'm not a Neanderthal I just about understand the concept. I think what you will find though is a lot of places which rely on passive ventilation, if they have a decent ish air score around 3 or 4 are probably under ventilated though. My old place used to have all the trickles open and small bedroom window open or on the latch, even in winter. My bills were not noticeably more. In any case if they recovered 100% heat then you wouldn't get people turning them down after building regs sign off! For me in a forever home I'd have one, for a commercial development not a chance. House buyers rather you spend 500 on a nest system and they'd probably think it saves them more money too!
  4. Two minds really. I think the investment means you justify the benefits in your head. I like the idea of it but I don't really notice super fresh air like other people mention. Perhaps if I had a night back in a standard new build I would realise. I do think they increase your heating requirements slightly.
  5. Mine have 150 cill on a 70mm profile and front of cill is about flush with brickwork. I have two course of plinth brick below. You know the 30mm cavity overhang is a minimum? Next size up is a 180 cill? Might be safer with that.
  6. Got the original alloys on the e36 lovely old school with deep profile tyres non of this catching the wheel nonsense.
  7. Every time I've built one standalone I'm suprised how much they cost
  8. If using b and b I always use a self compacting concrete on top. Its basically a skill free task. Stands up better to site traffic. Just slightly more expensive than normal concrete
  9. Try and get it to course in with the brickwork. Decide how high a kick you need above rafters. With conc tiles you want about 50mm but you can do 25 with 25 over fascia vents. Then the face of your rafters. I think a 150mm fascia would be pretty slim by the time you put the guttering on and the tiles or eaves trays hang down a couple of inch
  10. Nosy bastards no wonder he left!
  11. What length were these?
  12. @Temp how long you going to need for? Could borrow my dewalt for ring shanks
  13. Reads like the classic rolls Royce vs mass production car argument
  14. You see what I'm saying with point 1 though. Call a spade a spade. What's wrong with cavity construction if it works for you? If you think part L needs to change to increase minimum cavity width that's cool. What minimum do you think is good. @joe90 200mm? There's a reason banks are comfortable with cavity construction as opposed to straw bales though...
  15. Tbf temp I recently had a job to do with bit of tight scaff. I nailed the fascia with hammer side on where a gun would never have fitted.
  16. I think by rights they should be, although I wouldn't.
  17. I wouldn't
  18. Any pneumatic or gas. I think if you hire a coil one they can fire round head clouts
  19. Some epc assessors are worse than others. Generally a good guide
  20. Another couple of thoughts with this sorry @tonyshouse Not having a go. 1. My new vehicle is not a car it's a futuristic spaceship which levitates on air. It just uses some thin pieces of rubber to contain said air. 2. Having double cavity width than someone else isn't a reason to criticise the method of construction. If you were limited on your external dimensions then the sums don't add up. My area doesn't have particularly high property prices but I can tell you if I doubled my cavity width to 300mm, then my place would be worth approx £375 less per linear metre of external wall per floor. Done the back of fat packet maths and it's going to take a lot of heating savings to pay back.
  21. So it's cavity construction then ?
  22. https://find-energy-certificate.digital.communities.gov.uk/find-a-certificate/search-by-postcode Internal m2 on epc
  23. Isn't your place cavity tony?
  24. Found one which shows the bathroom window and a small window in another room. These don't have the jambs on yet as I went round doing all the heads first with the jig. Just do a window every few hrs 2 or 3 a day while doing other things.
  25. I lost my phone between end of first fix and plastering so lost a load. I have some pics but non which I think show that detail luckily had some with wires/pipes I'll see if any in background. No drawings I made it up on the hoof
