  1. How do you even get near the driver without working on the site? A farm might be a good choice too farmers always looking for a few extra quid usually have a machine
  2. https://www.jcbinsurance.com/short-term-hired-in-plant
  3. Jcb do short term cover for hired in plant. Seem to remember taking a policy out with them a few years ago
  4. It's still a good idea regardless of how rare the event is. Especially in extension/new build where it can be incorporated easier. Perhaps more popular in oz because majority of homes bungalows? infact now I think about it I'm sure one I have seen in oz just had a rodent proof like flood valve coming out of the brickwork externally. Would be a lot easier to do this way. Not good for air tightness though?
  5. Just ordered the Makita quick release one tonight. The "51" model. I resisted getting one for so long but on a job where it would come in handy. Always seen it as a "bodging" tool before now. I can't believe how many tools we need nowadays just to keep pace. Makes me sick. Bet our forefathers look down on us with disgust!
  6. A self build mortgage in arrears may be what you need. You would need to have a strong cash position at present thought as I'd imagine your ground to only be worth around your current mortgage amount 250k ish. Possibly need to demonstrate you have enough funds to demo and get out of the ground before stage payments advanced
  7. Work it out 20*5*.3 volume say. Put that into online call to get stone volume and Muckaway if not keeping on site. Then add 20m of geo membrane and a day for a man and decent machine. If that is how basic the access will be
  8. Look at the house 2 doors down. He's got 5 acres out the back!
  9. How high is the external ground above your ffl?
  10. Me and a cousin built some raised beds for our grandad. I'd never heard of dpm lining till we did it for him. I can't see it being that effective. Surely the timber is still damp regardless?! The bugs is a good point but in reality how long are we expecting these structures to last and how many extra days/weeks/months/years will a bit of dpm make?! The treatment angle is another good point. Just begrudgingly do it like I did and atleast you can say I told you so in 20 years!
  11. Mason mitre jigs have stops on the waste side. Obviously it can be done by jigging up right but makes it even more pita. I allow a cutter per kitchen job done
  12. They will come out with crap like this but when you ask them the square footage have no clue. Chancers mostly.
  13. I thought it was closer to 30 per linear metre per lift? @JSHarris @recoveringacademic Spons?
  14. If you read for the link he works for blaby council
  15. I have a pre app in with blaby at the moment! Be nice to see a response soon
  16. I bet they supply materials and this figure is total earnings. The fact materials are supplied would help them argue the self employed case and encourage the jobs to be done efficiently
  17. I still can't see it. It's got to be turnover not profit! I hope he's got a ltd company if it is profit! What would effective tax rate be on sole trader profit of 210k? 80k?
  18. If that's the 210k bloke I just can't see it myself. There's got to be a catch. Is he supplying other labour or materials? Is this his turnover or his profit? Did this include a one off year where a capital gain was made? No way is a one man band subcontract plumber earning 4K a week in profit.
  19. I've heard something about the teslas being tax efficient though. Something about buying through your company and perhaps benefit in kind tax being lower? Also vat back? Can't remember exactly
  20. I'd imagine public. Watch it in the morning or evening when not raining. Is it flowing without any water running in your house?
  21. Wouldn't agonise over that. If you listened to him and put a few in, and the wind still ripped it off your insurance claim would be fruitless!
  22. Is the sag static or moving depending on load? If it's a permanent sag could you not lift the underlay and carpet and latex floor?
  23. Meanwhile in the real world he's banged 100m stone in, 2 layers, 100mm pir in, dpm above and below 100mm concrete in maybe even self compacting for ease of use and flow and job done. Loads better than what was there before from thermal and durability point of view. Happens up and down the country all day every day. Like i I say not advocating any bodges, work has to be up to scratch but next thing u know he will be having soil survey, enviromental searches, radon barriers. Just get it done and do it right - too much bureaucracy
  24. Just do the floor to the current specs, photos throughout jobs a goodun. I'd perhaps start involving them when altering structural bits. Not much to go wrong with a floor if your confident in your abilities.
  25. I use sadolin light oak then 1 or 2 coats of sadolin clear on top. Seems good but osmo oil is supposed to be good too
