Yet another question about mortar mix!
Bonner replied to milleniumaire's topic in Bricklaying, Blockwork & Mortar
Can’t you remember if they used Lime mortar? If so try 1:3:6 cement lime sand. Otherwise white cement and sand at 1:5. Unfortunately sand varies in colour quite a bit as well, so unless you know exactly what was used, you will have to try a few mixes -
If the roof is waterproof, it sounds like something is not laid correctly. A bit of rain might penetrate gaps but shouldn’t be pooling inside! Photos might help.

Very common I’m afraid. Could be difference in moistures content for some reason, then it will even itself out. More likely they have used a different mix of mortar, in which case the difference might become less noticeable over time. I would be more concerned about what’s going on at the bottom of that wall. Is that the DPC sticking out?!

I think these type of trays have ABS capping so the most obvious reason is a void in the underlying stone casting. Can you feel any flex in the surface?

Not sure of the regs but I would strongly recommend separate drainage for each house. Nobody wants to deal with someone else’s blockage! ASHP condensate piped to a small soak-away so it doesn’t puddle.

I didn’t put any vents in and last winter the shed was constantly damp with condensation. I put two vents each side, high and low level, dried out by the next day.

You should consider resale as well. Even if it is your forever home, things can change. I would minimize any lending restrictions. Are you against a masonry skin?
-
Not done that, just leave a gap at the bottom where it meets a cill

What about this? https://www.pvccladding.com/aluminium-drip-profile-3mtr-anthracite-grey-p-XT-DWFP-AG/

As the man says, they prefer to sit in their vans. No one will challenge you to provide CDM welfare facilities on an individual site, just a portaloo (to stop them going elsewhere)

£12/m2 labour only, not finished yet but looking about about £4/m2 for materials.

Excellent thanks! I will check what has been fitted and change it if necessary. It will stick out like a sore thumb where it is now 👍

Continuing this discussion ... My plumber has installed an AAV about 1.2m above (first) floor level. I am going to box behind the toilet and sink but want the top around 900mm. Any problems dropping it 300mm, practical or regs?

Stick the reveals in with PB adhesive, then put a few screws in once it has set.

Unless they are asbestos tiles of course 🤔

I would spread the net further afield to get sensible quotes. Fitters will travel for such a big job. Have you got a window schedule for the suppliers to quote against?
-
Was that laminated as well as toughened ? Otherwise toughened alone doesn’t offer any protection from falling when it goes

Had a couple of shower panels explode, long time after fitting and nobody near them. One went in the middle of the night, frightened the bejesus out of me!

Shouldn’t be silicone but that may explain why it needs refilling. Epoxy filler with a little pigment (maybe experiment by mixing a tiny bit of cement?).

Rigid plastic ventilation ducts - what type of duct sealant (if any)
Bonner replied to TimCx's topic in Ventilation
I used cheap flexible frame sealant from Screwfix and duct tape. -
We had a similar debate about 2 or 3 panels. Went for triple with bifolds in the end. Two panels didn’t look right and we wanted bifolds anyway. @craig knows a bit about glazing systems! By the way (and I know you didn’t ask), not sure about the cat slide roof, can’t it slope towards the back. This could look better and also reduce the amount of glazing.

Floor loading understanding check please (long(ish) & maths content)

That’s me after a glass of wine, no undersanding Problem I find with tall bookcases is wobble. No matter how little deflection in the joists, a tall piece of furniture will move to some degree. I always secure them to the wall for security, thereby sharing the load with the wall.
