Pumped waste design for kitchen sink and dishwasher waste
markc replied to Adsibob's topic in Waste & Sewerage
How deep/shallow is the sewer? If the kitchen floor level is 1300-1400 below road level, the kitchen waste would only be a metre or so below so you may be ok dependant upto length of run to get there. -
+1 on this, also door knockers on UPV sound bloody aweful.

Hello and welcome, First bit of advice - dont believe what you see on TV, their budgets and costs and make believe. That aside, have fun, DIY is all about learning.
-
Chicken wire will act as reinforcing and hold the screed together/stop it cracking, but do you really want or need to cut down on the thickness? As @MarkyP pointed out, reducing mass of a floor generally results in more movement.
-
Highly unlikely they will accept an offer subject to survey or planning etc. Properties go to auction to save any hassle for the seller. Auction properties generally sell for less (although i have seen people pay well over the odds after getting auction fever) but the buyer takes a risk. Planning Consultant would (for a price) give you some pointers or an idea but not set in stone.
-
Big increase in price and no real benefit unless your supplier is going to give you a discount or penalties based on phase load. I have 3 phase but use a standard Consumer Unit running on one phase for the house and only use the 3 phases for machines in my garage.
-
Possibly wondering if he/she will be required or expected to split/balance phase loads

You can get a pretty good weld with a gas less machine, We used to use big versions for welding structures in exposed locations where wind blew gas shielding away. The weld will never look as neat as a gas shielded equivalent but so much easier than lugging bottles around. The new inverter welding inits are so much more stable than the old machines too.
-
Mig welding anything thin is not easy, add rust/dirt/paint etc and its a nightmare so dont knock yourself for struggling. Loads of people frown on the cheap gas less Migs but they can put down a descent weld with practice and so much easier than lugging a big plant around a site.

Chasing pipes into the wall and structural integrity
markc replied to Water's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
Holy Crap! Ive seen some deep horizontal chases pass BCO but never at the bottom and only being short run. that needs sorting -
Something maybe screws popping up under PVC membrane

They dont look like fixing heads to me, more like pieces of grit or similar -
Sounds fair to me

A CAD file includes all the precise setting out points and measurements etc. A PDF does not contain all the data required.

In that case the water based paint will be fine ... and its easy to re coat or patch up if needed, unlike the resin based stuff
-
Depends on what you are wanting the paint to do and how you will use your garage. Water based paints are easy to apply, no special precautions etc. and will stop all the dust and provide a nice clean finish. Buy really needs to be on clean concrete to `soak` in a bit. If you are going to do a lot of maneuvering and tyre scrubbing or use the area as a workshop then a water based finish will deteriorate fairly quickly.
-
If steel is encased it doesnt need anything (think of rebar inside concrete). If its exposed then it can be either coated or not. Most new bridges are now left unpainted because it has been found that the rust layer protects better than deteriorating paint.

Good morning and welcome, there are a number of useful books, The Self Build Manual, Self Build for Dummies and Self Build Bible (not sure i have the tiles exactly right). These give you a good background and insight into terminology and methods of construction etc. Project managing a build is very similar to other projects ... its basically planning what you think/hope will happen and then firefighting while things do happen. Loads of great info on here if you search topics as you need to.

Disc design is much better to use, slower on grass but faster on woody stemmed vegetation

No problem pushing a bit more in for piece of mind,

If rendering upto the metal frame on outside, then work on a removable closer on the inside to allow removal of the frame if needed. rare but it does happen
