  1. No problem unless it's a composite lintel as they are designed and manufactured to work in conjunction with the stated number of masonry courses above. Plain tensioned concrete are fine.
  2. What are you using it for?
  3. Haha, that’s the excuse I get ?
  4. Me neither, yes you have 440v between phases as opposed to 240v phase to earth but no reason for site staff to access the panel
  5. How often do ceilings suffer impact? For a kids bedroom or sports centre etc. It would be worth the extra cost but how often do you see plasterboard holed in a domestic building? …. Waiting for the LL comments here
  6. In that case, count your blessings and speak to them, make it a joke … you may seem a bit fussy but it’s your home and you would like …xyz! we are all human, we all have good and bad days and we all want our days to go smoothly. to quote the Advert … It’s Good to Talk.
  7. Agreed, short short laths and no way to fix the tiles, relying on gravity and a bit of gobbo to prevent wind getting under them. You could add clips to hold ‘clamp’ tiles to each other but still only self weight holding them down
  8. Depends on your shower head and how people use it. I like an overhead rain shower, my GF tends to use the handheld but leaving it in the holder and pointing the spray so that it hits the opposite wall. 1000mm is a decent size glass screen and shouldn’t be any problem
  9. Sounds plausible and if the ground has been raised, when you dig out you may find there are bottom vents that are also covered.
  10. I reckon the internals have been blocked up. Just opening up these will help to clear damp but really needs air to flow rather than just draughts. where is the damp? Generally or at the bottom of walls?
  11. Depends what was used as “glue” most wood glues require close contact in the joint and do not perform well as filler adhesives (GRP is never flat and true).
  12. Did anyone else pop in? 2-1/2 hour drive for us and stayed about 45 minutes. after all the fuss reminding visitors COVID Passes or recent LFT was required we were very disappointed that they asked for nothing. Small displays packed close together and no distancing. I wasn’t expecting Ideal Home Ex, but this was very disappointing.
  13. A well build wooden stair does not move or squeak, metal does not have to ring if designed well with vibration damping (small welds in strategic places to pre stress the members). precast concrete is bulky and ugly but a bespoke cast-in situ stair can be really cool and slender/interesting.
  14. I’ve just fitted a Wren kitchen that was delivered earlier than expected.
  15. Certainly looks similar to knotweed but I’m no expert, getting rid of it is a time consuming and labour intensive process. cheapest and easiest is to go around and inject glyphosate into each stem (repeat every couple of weeks), spray the smaller shoots. Dig a barrier trench to prevent further spreading but make sure this is far enough away that the root things haven’t already gone further than the trench.
  16. The agreements look like they were quickly thrown together trying to look official while not making any allowance or liability for anything going wrong etc.
  17. I can see no reason for this beam to be continuous as the loads inside will be far higher than the balcony so it would be better to thermally break the beam inside and construct the cantilever separately (but connected). in the past we have done beams with plastic flange and web plates to make a continuous beam but electrically isolated.
  18. Can’t offer any info but it does make you wonder about off grid homes, there has to be some deviation route for single dwellings
  19. At 30k over the lifetime of the property I would say it’s money we’ll spent. if it was a temporary supply then a combined diesel, battery, solar and wind set up would be feasible and economical(ish). I was at a trade show last week and some of the new generator/battery power modules look really good
  20. the tank popped up like a U boat. ???? Just spit my tea out

    Hello

Good morning and welcome, a search of past post will answer most questions. Failing that, ask away and I’m sure you will get your answer … and probably a few odd ones.
  22. Difficult to say without seeing it, but I really doubt you are getting an on-site weld repair for £70, I reckon it will be chemical metal (maybe) but more likely a bit of mastic
  23. I’m guessing the “weld” will be sealer or at best lead sealed
  24. Cast iron can be welded but it’s not easy and I doubt anyone would attempt to repair a gutter in situ. can you post a pic of the problem
  25. Got to agree with the above, gabions (still trying to auto correct) are intended in place of cast in situ walls/abutments or sheet piling etc. if the bank is well established then the root systems will hold it
