Reasonable size of gap for services in blockwork.
PeterW replied to epsilonGreedy's topic in Foundations
Anything that is above 100mm from memory requires a lintel Water has to come in a minimum 750mm below ground and in a 63mm blue duct or 110mm soil pipe to give you the radius needed to get vertical inside the property. Telephone needs standard BT duct, electric needs black duct min 450mm below ground - DNO can advise what they require. -
Unfortunately this depends on your BCO as much as anything - the minimum for a strip foundation in firm sand is 250mm which is why your BCO said it was ok. What you’ve ended up with is more than a strip and less than trench fill which is perfectly acceptable. The bigger issue is that BCOs accept no liability for structural failures so if they get it wrong then you have no legal recourse...

If you get Super Leytex from Toolstation it’s £31 for 15 litres (white) and goes over new plaster after 4-5 days without a problem. Goes a long way but needs a topcoat on walls as isn’t hard wearing but is fine after 2 coats and unlike other paint it doesn’t need a mist coat or watering down.

Two things affecting your budget will be where you’re located and how much you can do yourself. Perfectly possible to get to £1200 with plenty of (your) effort and some bargain hunting ...

@sam There is one in the BuildHub Tool Loan scheme from memory. @Nickfromwales..?

From memory you don’t have UFH so break out the Stihl saw and cut a channel in the concrete 50mm deep and 75mm wide and drop in 3 lengths of 25mm conduit with nice long elbows either end. Then back fill with some rapid setting concrete and job done ... And 3...?? Allows you to do a loop and add that induction hob later........

You must make sure they are stacked on minimum 4x2 bearers at 600 centres and the TF co will tell you how high. Are they pre-insulated ..?? Lay them outer side up and make sure they are strapped down too..! Do not use pallets to stack them on ..!!

Do you want tube rather than square section then..? If so, look for a pipework fabricator as they will have a mandrel bending machine - usually hydraulic and possibly CNC too... they are super accurate ..!!

Yep done this. Make it quite liquid - another half a litre per bag - and make sure the floor is wet too. I’ve used Mapei but wasn’t overly happy - it doesn’t cover what it says on the bag. Also used Wickes own brand and that was fine too. Make sure it’s the flexible one though..!

Ok ... plate at 30 degrees to the wall - bottom touching. Slide it up and when it’s compressed the springs push the plate back to the wall at the top that should let you hook the top over the backplate

Why is internal sewage pipe round and not square
PeterW replied to Triassic's topic in Waste & Sewerage
So a 110mm round waste could be replaced by a 95mm square section to get the same cross section however it would be a pain to connect to as everything would have to be at 90 degrees. -
Why is internal sewage pipe round and not square
PeterW replied to Triassic's topic in Waste & Sewerage
Round comes off the extrusion die and can twist slightly to no detriment. Square would have to be held true until completely cold. -
That’s a better price and closer to what I expect. I didn’t realise how much building is going on in Sheffield - talking to a chippy who said he has to get lads from Manchester to work in Sheffield as everyone is busy ..!

Thought wall and floor tiles were the same so surely using same grout colour ..??!!!

You can set an aluminium profile into the wall and seal it with CT1 - doesn’t need to be watertight on the outside as you can get IP67 LED strip and your join would be in the attic anyway ... however....... I can’t see swmbo being impressed at having floodlighting of herself in profile in the shower so this is a seriously bad idea ..!!!

Nil - its a unit swap with the flue, pipes and fittings all in the same place and a like for like brand. Even if you follow the MIs to the letter and powerflush the whole system and fit (another) magnaclean its a days work comfortably. Yours I would class as a new boiler install rather than emergency. Unless I was asking them to work overnight, I wouldn’t expect to pay 3-400% markup on a day rate.

6mm on a wall, 10mm is floor I think you’ll have problems if you don’t lay a course at a time

Do you mean “The house that £100k built”..? If so, most are on YouTube.

If the flue fills with water it drains out of the condensate pipe ... it’s designed to do that ...
-
I’d hate it. Because it wouldn’t be enforced with anyone but the small/self builders as the big developers found a multitude of ways round it ...

Yes it is ..!! Can pick up a Greenstar 25i for £900 inc VAT and it’s the same size, pipework layout and connections as the one it’s replacing. Its a days job to fit it, even if you powerflush (which is easy with the old one off the wall) so £900 for a days work is a little excessive ... @newhome these are prone to circuit board faults - £60 to £100 for the board depending on where it’s from and 15 mins to fit
