I’m using up off cuts! luckily my partner and I sleeps like logs! so no problem getting up in the night. The thing that wakes me is the light going on, hence the PIR activated small LED bathroom lights, they give out just enough light to show you the way to the loo and sink and that’s it.

We’re having two bedrooms with en-suite and two that are close to the family bathroom. We're having an en-suite because And so is the guest bedroom. Our en-suite is large enough to accommodate a full suite and separate shower. It’s also soundproofed the wall with 120mm of Kingspan between it and the master bedroom. We’re installing 2 very small LED floor level lights, activated by a motion sensor, that give just enough light to be able to see and find the loo etc without having to switch on main overhead lights.

I’m not too concerned with freezing, if it’s that cold everything outside will be frozen and as you say, “ if the pipes have the right fall ......”

All of my rainwater drains are under grass or paths, so I’ll be keeping the pipes fairly shallow at the house end, probably starting at 150mm deep. The longest drainage pipe will be 6m long.

Thanks all for the input. I’m going to pipe my downspouts directly into The 65mm twin wall pipe and run these to a dry brick constructed soak away chamber. I’ll cover each one with a small paving slab, if I then have problems with silt I can uncover the slab and clean the chamber. With the amount of rainwater we’re getting, sometimes in huge deluges, I’m considering a French drain around the house to keep the foundations dry. Is this something anyone else has done?

We’re on a septic tank so waste and rain water are separate. Do I need to use 100mm orange/brown rigid pipe or can I connect the downspout direct to 65mm twin wall flexible, routed to a rock filled soak away? I only ask as I have a load of twin wall left over from another job and it needs using up.

I need to fit down spouts and rainwater pipes. I’m running the 110mm rainwater pipes away from the building and into Soakaways, all straight forward and easy to install. What I’m not sure about is the gully the downspouts discharges into. Should these be a simple plastic grid type, with a shoe on the end of the down pipe, or should the downspout go directly into the gully? Thoughts, pictures, best practice ideas most welcome.

Basement Dig - Sand disposal for free

The local farmer takes in soil and other fill at no cost, he’s filling up a large boggy area in a field. Might be worth asking around! -

Put it on the local Facebook page or free cycle, I’ve got rid of loads of stuff that way -
May be I’m focusing on the wrong aspect. How much (m2) should a good plasterer be doing in a day? Has anyone plastered their own home? How difficult can it be? 4day plastering training course for two people £500!

Plasterer and labourer. He’s quoted plasterer at £26/ hour and £15 for the labourer.
-
I’ve just started getting prices for plastering and they vary A lot. What sort of price per square metre have you been quoted? Most have quoted a day rate, rather a total price for the whole job, it this normal?

Local builders merchant is charging 26p per sheet more than before COVID-19. I asked why? He said prices are rising across a wide range of building materials, “some at an alarming rate!” Is words, not mine.

Ive had 4 pallets of plasterboard so far and I’m after another pallet. Having managed to get 2 pallet loads from CCF, I rang them to place an order. They tell me that due to Covid they no longer deliver to residential addresses! I pointed out they’d delivered here before, but it makes no difference. So if you want stuff from CCF don’t forget to add “Unit 1” to your self build address, that way you might just get a delivery!

Just divert the rainwater from the roof to a different soak away, job done. https://www.eden.gov.uk/planning-and-building/building-control/building-control-guidance-notes/rainwater-soakaway-design-guidance/

Some photos of your set up might help.

I was very sceptical about oxalis acids ability to clean up badly marked and black stained oak. One application was enough to get rid of the majority of the stains, two applications and a nylon bristled brush and the worst stains were gone. Give it a try, you have nothing to looose

It worked for me the last time I used this approach. I’m sure the solicitor called them Statutory Declarations.

I’ve lost around 8lb during lockdown down. Might be down to weeks of working on my own, starting by carrying 140 sheets of plasterboard into the house, then moving them around the various rooms. Also we’ve cooked from scratch using fresh Ingredients. Mind you, we’ve drunk more!

I’d suggest you use metal box sections, the local fabrication company should be able to weld something together to match the size of your shed. A local search for metal fabricators would be a good starting point.

Like putting the key down in the boot to pick up a box, closing the boot and the car locking itself automatically five minutes later, because that’s how it’s programmed by the manufacturer!
