The design of the system has to be signed off by Building Control, the septic tank has to be fully compliant, tested and approved to EN12566 Part 1 and the drainage field sized in accordance with the peculation test results (Approved Document H). Finally the discharge has to be registered and approved by the EA. (“Guidance for the registration of small effluent discharges”, Environment Agency).
-
Which is now against the regulations and not allowed. I'm going for the cheapest septic tank I can find and will fit a discharge filter to reduce the solids being carried and install a well designed drainage field.

Mine will have the SWMBO mark 2 controller. If it senses cold, it switches the UFH heating to FULL

Heating, Hot water, ASHP, and Sunamp Design Needed
Triassic replied to Triassic's topic in Other Heating Systems
I’ve finally got to the point of buying a Sunamp! This self build is really slow when your doing it all yourself! Who is selling Sunamp to self builders? -
I’ve been using a private Building Control company and had about six different Building Control staff over the two and half years I’ve been building my house. Staff retention appears to be a problem. They only come to site when I contact them and request their attendance. Of late, probably the last eight months, they've taken to emailing me and requesting that I email them a monthly progress report. Is this normal practice, Or something prompted by COVID-19 ?

I’m lucky if I see a plasterer on site once a month, he usually does a weekend as a cash in hand job. At this rate it’s going to take months to finish. I’ve tried other plasterers and they are just not interested.
-
Good luck getting them to turn up. Round here you can’t get plasterers to even price a job, never mind turn up and do it. They are all busy, either on volume new builds, or multi million Pound second homes.

I’d placed an order for a front and back door before the latest lockdown. I’ve just chased up delivery to be told by the manufacturer the local installer has closed until after lockdown. It would be good if they have told me! Order cancelled, now to find a supplier who can! Visited the builders merchant to order a selection of red wood timber, que a sharp intake of breath - oh you’ll have to leave your list with me as it’s imported and I’m not sure if we can fore-fill the order, or how long it’ll be for delivery. Is this something others are experiencing?

What about an instantaneous boiling water tap, the cheapest appear to be around £250 - £350 ?

Willis powered UFH Electrical Fault - HELP
Triassic replied to Triassic's topic in Underfloor Heating
Having done some tests I had an hunch it was the pump at fault, it was second hand! A new pump fitted and everything is now running a dream. -
I see that channel 4 got lots of stick for even airing the series about some celeb building a seven bed mansion when others are loosing jobs etc. The shell is finished but no second series looking at the inside fit out.

Where to locate joint in 4.2m worktop
Triassic replied to Tetrarch's topic in Kitchen Units & Worktops
I always put joints where the sink goes. I biscuit cut slots in the joints and epoxy glue 2p coins in the joints for additional support. -

Does Home Assistant have an option to do that? -
Over Christmas I was looking at Home Assistant. It looks like a simplest, open source, locally operated system. Is anyone using it and do they have any pet projects they could share? https://www.home-assistant.io/blog/2020/12/13/release-202012/

From the description of the flow rate, the plume being something people stop and look at, suggests it is discharging way in excess of 20m3. Maybe if all else fails a bit of local publicity would work, a piece in the local paper, radio, village/town Facebook page!?

I’m about to purchase a 5.5m2 electric UFH mat. Can anyone recommend a reputable supplier at a reasonable price?
-
How does this wide area wireless network work? Via the Internet or using cell technology? The reason I ask is that I’m on my second smart meter and neither worked due to there being no cell coverage.
-
Looking at Octipus Agile, it would appear that I need a working smart meter. Is that correct?
-
Is this borehole licences? In dry weather does the flow stop or reverse?

I’m sure I read somewhere about a neighbour objection and when asked why they said they didn’t like the previous owners! People are often bored and some have nothing better to do. In my case I visited all me immediate neighbours with a copy of the plans and talked them through what was proposed and none objected.

hass io Anyone using Home Assistant
Triassic replied to readiescards's topic in Networks, AV, Security & Automation
I realise two years is a long time in the computer home automation world. Have things changed with Home Assistant, are more of you using it? -
Just to clarify, is the accumulator fitted to the incoming cold, before it split to hot and cold feed?
-
Strangely enough the showers were delivered yesterday, I’ll open the box and see if the flow rate is quoted on the paperwork, other than that I’ll ask the supplier and get back to you for further advice.

It is,.... Is there a formula for sizing one up?
