I’m at the stage where I need to fit out four bathrooms. Each bathroom will have porcelain floor tiles, Duravit white goods, a mid range vanity unit, a shower (tray, screen and fittings), two of them will have a bath. Then there’s electric towel rail and UFH, wall tiles, mirror, consumable, such as glue, grout and silicone etc. Having gone round all the local suppliers for quotes, the bathrooms are likely to cost between £5 and £7,000. Supply only. This sounds a lot to me, but never having done a full bathroom before, is this a reasonable cost or not? How much would you pay?

Iwonder how much it would cost to build

There a web site for that! http://www.myairship.com/building/index.html -
I had a smart meter installed as part of a deal. It’s never worked properly, it doesn’t sent the supplier meter readings and it doesn’t communicate with the energy monitor they provided. This is the third smart meter I’ve had in two desperate properties and none of them have ever worked properly.

I’m looking at alternatives to a Sunamp. Out of interest how much was this fitted?
-
I assume you’ve read Paul Canelli’s blog, he has self installed hydro, wind turbine and PV, his house is way off grid. Well worth the read. https://lifeattheendoftheroad.wordpress.com/category/hydro/

I’ve worked on my self build throughout lockdown in a three builder bubble. Very cosy!

Some here might be saying this about Sunamps in a few years time

Householders that have not installed an eligible system on or before 31 March 2019 will not be eligible for FITs payments.

I’d be interested in reading about your research , maybe you could start a new thread and we could all contribute towards best practice.

I agree, I’d got the impression SA were trying to move towards becoming mainstream, that appears to have changed and rheyre moving in the opposite direction, highly technical, specialist install, costly to buy.
-
I went direct to Sunamp and they palmed me off to Midsummer? Did you get a good goal going direct? In my case I’ve lost a discount I’d previously been given by Sunamp.
-
These are not relevant, so no point in a Sunamp. Any pointers to current best practice in hot water system design ?
-
According to the Midsummer web site “the controller supplied with the battery has to be programmed for different applications.“ The Uniq 12 “Includes V100 Control unit”. So is the V100 the latest control unit? I had ordered a Sunamp, but supplier was removed from Sunamp’s approved supplier list, so my money was refunded. I’m now wondering, do I want a Sunamp?

Electric cable near cat 5 cable.

Can I add to the question. Out meter is in an out Building, Will the mains cable interfere with the Eddi current signal cable, as they are in the same duct as the power cable? -
Wa hoo.. I’ve had a call, a mate spotted twelve bags of board finish plaster in his local BMs and bought them for me. Happy days.
-
Had a call Yesterday from the local BM, after I enquired about bulk order of plaster. They’ve not got any plaster in any of their depots.. The earliest they are likely to have new stock is 3 to 4 weeks, but they have a list of customers wanting supplies on a first come First served basis, so it could be longer before I get any!

Planning and Design Process - take your time!
Triassic commented on Conor's blog entry in Holywood Passive ICF Build
That’s a nice looking design. I bet you that some helpful Buildhubers will be along to help you refine the design further, so don’t order the ICF just yet! -
Good thinking! Never even considered putting one at the top of the house or controlling automatic windows to let hot air out. I suppose I could also use the feedback to control the MVHR purge option.
-
I can still get into the floor, but I was thinking! Why the floor and not the ceiling? Hot air rises?
-
The ones quoted are Italian, if that’s relevant.

We live in a micro climate due to out location surrounded by Cumbrian fells, so the local weather is often different to what we experience. For example, everyone we talk to mentions torrential rain storm and thunder. We had one light shower! Floor sensors, could you point me in the direction of the equipment I need?
