  1. My garden slopes and as part of the post build landscaping I’d like to install a row of Gabion baskets to act as a retaining wall to a lawned area. In places the baskets will be 2 metres tall. I’ve looked online and there is a huge range of styles and suppliers. Can anyone revommmend any particular types of basket and a reputable supplier, quality and price is key.
  2. looks like a steel reinforced concrete cill. Nothing to worry about. treat the steel and repoint the blown area.
  3. Good luck to the new Landlords, I hope they make a decent living out of the place. I for one would visit if I were ever passing.
  4. The pre-mixed lime mortar comes in a plastic bag inside a builders one tonne bag. If you keep the plastic bag sealed the mortar will last for up to twelve months.
  5. I’ve used both the pre-mixed, came in a tonne bag and quick lime slaked on site to putty and mixed using local sand, as would have been the case when the wall was built. If it were me I’d go for a ore-mixed tonne bag, it just so easy to throw a few shovel fills into a mixed at the start of the day, to knock it up! I use a selection of pointing irons (by width), roughly point the lime into the joint, once the section is finished, knock the pointing back using a churn brush. Job done.
  6. Composite decking every time. It looks good is easily maintained and cleaned. If it were me I’d go for the reasonably priced option.
  7. Im about to order the ASHP kit and one question I was asked, do I want a UFH buffer tank with coil fitted? I asked why? Apparently it reduces the amount of Ferenix glycol required. As anyone come across this and is a wise move!
  8. Make sure you say this in your Design Statement, then say it again if you get a chance at the planning meeting. Keep to the facts, if you can’t keep your cool, get someone else (architect) to talk to the planning committee.
  9. We used the second hand bricks to create feature walls and an ingle nook fire place. We’ll probably use what’s left for garden walls.
  10. Keep the scrap metal separate. I weighed mine in at Morcambe metals and got over £2,000 in total.
  11. I’m also getting Solar PV. How do you integrate that into the mix? I assume you have immersion heaters in the cylinder to dump excess energy directly into the hot water system?
  12. After a few years of indecision I’m now at the point of actually buying an ASHP. I’m drawn to the Panasonic Aquarea 7Kw unit. Does anyone here have one and could they share their experience of it?
  13. Mine was made of recycled timber and white goods. Look on FB marketplace and Freecycle, It will save you money.

  15. I’ve just been quoted £4909 ex VAT, including ore-plumbed cylinder, the installation kit and some sort of Ecodan transmitter receiver? was your price Is with VAT or ex VAT?
  16. Some new builds close to me have four panels. I was thinking what a waste of time.
  17. I’ll be calling them on Monday.
  18. Just checking elsewhere and can’t find anyone with them in stock. Im looking at the Daikin Altherma and City Plumbing have 9 in stock.
  19. Just applied. Let’s see hat happens next! Has anyone got other suggestions for keenly priced suppliers, City Plumbing Supplies prices look good, so I’ve emailed them asking for a quote for a. 7Kw ASHP and new pre-plumbed 300l. Cylinder
  20. Ive phones my local Worslesy branch to ask about the purchase of an ASHP, the person I talked to stated that they had closed their renewables business and didn’t know if they still supplied ASHPs. He safe I an get back , he never did, Very poor Custer service.
  21. That’s a bit more than I’d budgeted for, but I am saving money by not having a Sunamp!
  22. I might be able to get close to that price if I go for an off the shelf pre-plumbed cylinder rather than a designer branded package! What make of cylinder is best in terms of quality of construction and price?
  23. I was thinking along these lines. I was going to look at pre-plumbed cylinders next.
  24. So its all down to price. One being £300 cheaper than the other?
