  2. Let's see a pic then Peter...
  3. You have probably achieved loads but as there's still much to do all the focus is looking forward towards what has still to be done. In the void now of having almost finished I'm lost at times for a task to keep busy. It does give time for reflection. I bet you have made great progress but you can't see the value so far. Time off is a good idea but for me I need a busy break. Just booked a three city tour across eastern Europe with cheap flights and trains. No time to worry, travel, beer, eat repeat . Best wishes!
  4. Hi Ferdi, Thought you were in Melbourne enjoying the southern spring? None the less, nice to hear from you, please send some pics of the beach volleyball?
  5. Let the fun begin! On a Friday too?

  7. I'd keep the glass wool in its wrapper as much as possible Cut it outside and staple it in sections. I.e. have your insulation board cut and ready for a section then staple in the glass wool and get it covered up quickly. This will keep the fibres down. Plus one to a cool shower...
  8. Welcome MAB, out of interest why that name? Is it like madly ambitious builder? Mendacious altruistic brexiteer .. Or what?
  9. Good to hear of your progress. Exciting times ahead!?
  10. It's midgy free but a lot of wasps!
  11. I hate mine too. Can you not swap it for a sensor type...@Prodave
  12. Like the idea of playing Mendelssohn's music at full blast ( earphones) while approaching the cave .on my tick list ... jealous Or as an ex para, ride of the Valkyries
  13. Gas nail gun...made building my timber hut a fun and quick experience.
  14. I'm sure you've seen this but I'm case not, some useful documents http://www.preston.gov.uk/yourservices/planning/conservation-and-heritage/conservation-areas/fulwood-conservation-area/
  15. Hey Nod, Are you in one of these areas... Article 4 Directions Householders can normally make minor alterations to their houses without requiring planning permission such as changing doors or windows. This is called 'permitted development'. However in some conservation areas we have removed these 'permitted development rights' by making an Article 4 Direction. The conservation areas affected are: Avenham Fishergate Hill Fulwood St. Ignatius
  16. Nice research...maybe aluminium tape could be your new best friend?
  17. Russ I don't know but from previous answers to similar questions... You'll need planning permission for your new build...ergo you need to read read read the local plan and speak to planning You'll also need permission to demolish and think about services/access etc Good luck
  18. I took a flake of paint to the valspar mixy place at B&Q and it was perfect Quick and easy
  19. Sell it on Gumtree?
  20. Get the nail gun out... solid , quick and you could hang off a batten like an Olympic gymnast
  21. I think we have been spared this in glorious Scotia *hopes he does* since we have an abundance of the wet stuff. In the future I see Victorian scale infrastructure projects pumping fresh highland water to the south in exchange for tariff free imports of fine crockery complete with images of young George the cute. Water may well be the new oil..I'm serious???
  22. Not sure I understand the problem, where is the bath? This tool let's you grab the tap locking nut and squeeze your hand between the bath and wall if it's a typical bath. Maybe a good smear of plumbers paste between the taps and the bath and go for hand tight...

Still tricky, watch the skin on your knuckles
  24. Yep that's how I'd do it... I got 10% extra and had nothing left, was just perfect amount.
  25. I think all the experts say treat before installation. More work but better results . Means you can grade the boards too and put the best ones on top and the dodgy ones behind... Best ones for your main elevation Seconds for the gables Thirds for behind the top boards And forth ripped for battens or the fire
