  1. You can if you want, I presume your asking me to contribute to your costs because you won’t challenge the people that did not design your heating system properly (not fit fir purpose). That is not my fault, it’s not the fault of anyone on this forum that has tried hard to help you. It’s your fault, yes life is stressful at times, we all know that.
  2. so what is you next question? oh but we do, but you constantly argue with any points raised. It is us that cannot win.
  3. Jeremy Vine currently discussing this on radio 2
  4. “Piss up” and “brewery” spring to mind.
  5. Not a stupid question at all, when I notice the weather is warm enough that windows are open along with doors (spring/summer) I turn it off fir the season, likewise in Autumn when it’s starting to chill it goes on for the winter.
  6. That’s what I said..... ?‍♂️ then again this thread is about @tonyshouse heat storage which does not include DHW.
  7. @tonyshouse very interesting reading, especially warm air heating, and wet solar panels, but they are connected to a natural gas boiler to top up requirements so not all heating and DHW supplied (but a great contribution to it).
  8. References from previous customers, I also say go with your gut feeling, you need to get on with these guys, any confrontation will lead to problems. I liked my builder from day one, really good feeling and it proved right in spades.
  9. My porch is outside the thermal envelope, just there as an airlock, protect nice oak ( insulated ) door, to take off muddy boots etc but I would not want a wc to be-in one.
  10. +1. Just watched it (recorded) what Kevin did not get was the timber (as told by the timber conversationalist) was beyond repair, also thought the same as @ProDave about stairs and building regs ?.
  11. Can you update your thread on this and your plans?
  12. I do believe micro climate makes a really big impact on dwellings, remember Jeremy needing more cooling than heating because of his protected sun trap location.?. Wales can be very wet (like down here in Devon) but we have no shading so any sun light is warming/drying. Not sure what’s around zoot but I would never buy a house in a shaded valley, especially a stone cottage in a damp location. Just saying!
  13. You really need to do a “heat requirement “ calculation. Part of this calculation is the insulation level and airtightness. Do you have access to mains gas as this might be a more realistic running price wise for a “standard” house.
  14. I do Oh I agree, but I would suggest those like me are the ones that build one do. So you are not building fir yourself but fir profit/job.? This is a self build forum which is full (mostly) of people like me who want to build their own house that works for them. You did not plan it right then My point exactly.
  15. But can you get them at a decent price (delabole are very expensive, which is why I had Spanish for my new build ?‍♂️).
  16. ???, I think you need to do more reading/research.
  17. oh no there not, (it’s past panto season I know.) delabole slate is the best!!,!, (just cus its Cornish ?).
  18. Baffled and impressed in equal measure! Impressive but pug ugly (tho I used to like chimneys built like this)
  19. Oops. “it cannot be applied on wet or damp surfaces. ”
  20. I have a neighbour with a flat roof that is leaking slightly and wants a product he can “slap on” whilst it’s still wet. He is planning to have it renewed/mended in the summer when it stops pissing down. Can anyone recommend such a product???

2nd Dec ASHP - or not

ASHP was always planned from the start, as was UFH downstairs. Due to having to fight fir planning permission I had plenty of time to do my homework (mostly this forum and it’s predecessor). I do have a wood burning stove which is a marmite subject here but we are not dependant on it, it’s a luxury and I don’t have to buy wood. I learnt early on that you only buy insulation once, but fuel you keep having to buy (and it will go up in price).

2nd Dec ASHP - or not

I installed an ASHP and very pleased with it. HOWEVER, it’s a new very well insulated build and very airtight with no gas available, well beyond building regs. If your house is not well insulated etc and you have gas it will be your cheapest (to run) option.
  23. yes, must do this (fir when people CAN visit again ?).
  24. +1 all the above. My Vortex has a “solid” trap around the incoming pipe where large bubbles break up “natural” solids but accidental wipes and such stuff gets trapped and easy to fish out.
  25. The sump pump is only required till the foundations are poured, then French drain can be installed as the ground is built up around them. Mine is strip foundations, @SuperJohnG is a raft.
