Best location for my MVHR unit
joe90 replied to Adsibob's topic in Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)
Even tho I mentioned my shortest pipe route being near a guest bedroom (noise wise) you can only hear it when on boost, at all other times it’s innaudible in any room , my unit is hung from roof rafters and on rubber mounts so no noise from the up unit/fans is transferred to ceiling joists/rooms. Location is also constrained by external vent location (mine is North wall location). -
I have no idea but some are bound to be longer than others, my unit is fairly central but in the loft so bedrooms and bathroom are bound to be closer than some. I did have a thought of extending the nearest bedroom pipework by using leftover pipe to extend in a big loop. (It’s a guest bedroom).

Planning permission for building within RPA of protected trees
joe90 replied to Raine's topic in Planning Permission
I would not put anything past a planner, we had a RPA area and I simply stated “erect 1m high sheep fencing on 100mm round poles to the particular area”, their reply was this statement must be done by a professional body. I found who within the council was their tree protection officer and sent him an Email stating the as above and could he give advise, he said the above was perfectly acceptable, so I forwarded his Email to the planners ?. -
Some roof tiles appear to be slightly raised at bottom?
joe90 replied to Angel1403's topic in Roofing, Tiling & Slating
That looks strange, not come across it before with concrete tiles. Can you get up there easily and “jiggle” them about? Unless something is between the tiles holding them up I can’t see why this has happened ?♂️. -
@SuperJohnG, there is one for loan from the forum, I know I borrowed it and posted it on (can’t remember who had it next).

There should be a fibre washer at that join. If you can turn the water off at the road you could take it off and use a jointing paste on it. (Others will recommend what’s best to use).

In a previous house I was going to erect a conservatory and told the neighbour (little old lady) and she told her son when he visited, he came round complaining that from the new conservatory you could see straight through her kitchen window and into her bedroom. I pointed out that the floor level of the conservatory was the same as the existing patio (which we often sat on) and that her kitchen window was closer to the boundary than my patio was. They went to IKEA and bought her a blind fir the window ? neighbours eh!!!

Plastic pipe leak at compression joint on isolating vavle
joe90 replied to Gooman's topic in General Plumbing
Might be worth tightening the nut a little, hold the body tight with pliers before you do, just a “nip” might be enough, if not, water off, remove nut and use a paste/sealer on the olive and retighten. -
Welcome, Sounds very different and interesting, looking forward to plans and pictures .

How to achieve this window style and external frame
joe90 replied to Ronan 1's topic in Windows & Glazing
Ah, I am in Devon, the do work in other places, not sure NI would be achievable. I will ask tho. Surely someone here on the forum near you can recommend a local company? -
I totally agree. With us it’s just two people most of the time and family/friends occasionally we have an en suite with full bath and walk in shower, next to the two other bedrooms the family bath (for visitors ) has just toilet basin and shower. Friends/family are not going to stay away just because they don’t have an en suite !!!

Needs heat and fresh air to stop (and regular cleaning). Hopefully your heat will get better soon.

How to achieve this window style and external frame
joe90 replied to Ronan 1's topic in Windows & Glazing
My windows were hand made by a local company in hardwood to my design, I bet they could make them for you. -
Shame, can you not discuss with the neighbours to raise the fence or something? I built one for my brother many years ago about the same height ( I didn’t know then about height restriction!) and just chatted to the neighbour about raising the fence and they agreed.

Customers responsibility ?
-
It depends on the inspector, their all different (mine didn’t because he knew I was building my forever home for myself, not profit so would do it all properly).
-
Just take loads of photos and send them (my brother in law did this to save visits) and ask if that’s sufficient.

MVHR is Largely Bogus
joe90 replied to DavidHughes's topic in Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)
Ah, this is what i wanted, my RH varies a lot and I can’t find a setting for my humidistat that covers different weather conditions. Can someone point me (a Luddite) at a humidistat that works on rise of RH, not a set level.
