  1. Xps high density foam, or get a sheet of marmot board and cut up, or buy the shulter curb.
  2. Have done a curb previously, which was basically a row of bricks, then screed inside to the required fall, then waterproof system on top and over the curb.
  3. With a budget of £150 you need to do a lot yourself including design, get all your ideas down and talk to them. That budget will just get you the extension, don’t waste it trying to get an award winning architect to come up with some fantastic design, it will just get your hopes up for something you cannot afford to finish. Keep it simple, nice family area, good working space, no fancy things and you can do it. But get carried away and your budget will disappear by the time you have a shell up.
  4. What do you mean by cold bridging, your windows will certainly be the weak link in the insulation game. However you will probably get more overheating problems with that much glass as opposed to heat loss.
  5. What on Earth are you doing, I can do a full days work on one 4 amp hour battery.
  6. Ducting for what, mvhr, or to run cables through??
  7. Depends what other tools you have, stick with the same battery configuration as the rest, I have the dewalt one and just put about 10,000 screws through it without any problem.
  8. How far do you need to extend it, if only a couple of metres then forget mdpe as you have to buy a 25m coil. Just go and get a 3m length of hep pipe and a straight connector and a hep washing machine tap. Will save you loads of cash and it’s all available from toolstation.
  9. Should be 50mm up to protect it from screws. One hole in that location is not going to affect anything. But it is good practice to put it central of the joist.
  10. By the time you have paid for that you could buy better windows with more available colours.
  11. Tbh, why do you need a cad file, what you do want that he said he would do is to have a set sent to your surveyor, structural engineer and bco. What you need on site is a set of drawings with measurements on them, you cannot really scale from plans accurately. So get a set sent to surveyors, they will come out and do a rough plot peg out, from there you can do your site prep, then surveyor to mark out foundations, then you dig then surveyor to mark wall position. I cannot see how a dog is of any use to you unless you have the ability to read it on your computer. If you really want it get the surveyor to send or to send a copy to you.
  12. Why pir, why not eps to match the icf,
  13. i did this to all windows and doors.
  14. Just walk into your local glass merchants and order them. They are surprisingly cheap.
  15. If you fit it at the threshold what floor coverings will you have, as you will need to span the 25mm upstand with something. like in my pic, I will cut down the insulation on the inside and span over it.
  16. No, what are you screwing into it, your doors probably won’t have any downwards fixings.
  17. That’s not a bad price for domestic, site rates are cheaper. Remember he will probably measure through the windows so could be more than you have estimated. I paid a cheaper rate and had to get rid of him after two rooms and find a better bloke, if it’s your self build you will want a better finish than site work.
  18. I personal thought everyone was overthinking this. 4 lads just picked mine up on suckers and walked them in, extremely heavy but nothing that they don’t do every day.
  19. Scaffold board laid on top.
  20. If it’s just for a ledger board then don’t you like the stud fixing method into the concrete. No hangers needed just studding.
  21. Can you not use the Nudura ones.
  22. @MortarThePoint mate, you need a bit more tonic in your gin. 🤣🤣
  23. Take the plywood back and buy 22mm tongue and groove chipboard, your ply will have give in it over the gaps between joists, unless you noggin all of those. So much grief. Chipboard is actually very stiff, ply is a bit springy.
  24. Angle grinder with a segmented blade, and a dust mask.
