  3. Yep I thought mine were being discharged on the Monday I had all the plant there Sunday They were delayed for a week and I was told to remove the plant off site
  4. Excellent Much better than the original GDs Showing all the newbies that you will end with a lovely home A few downs along the way and problaby over budget Ordinary people with a tight budget Great to see
  5. Yep only one chance to do it Worth being over cautious I helped my wife with the sheets of insulation and she did the rest
  6. I put a 1 mtr membrane around the perimeter and taped it to the dmp Then ran then ran another layer up against the walls and and another layer on top of the 250 insulation Few pics may help you
  7. Belt and braces I charge £8 per mtr to supply and install exspansion joints Like weeps on brickwork They are just in case
  8. We normally gun nail all As long as you use a ring nail They will never pull out
  9. I’m no plumber But I’ve fitted four Geberit on our house Very easy to fit and the final fit after tiling is a doddle Great quality
  10. nod

    Nail guns.

I’ve a 1st and 2 nd fix Hitachi Same gas and nails as the pasloda Half the price from Tool Monkey
  11. We often run a three mil skim stop in the angles In areas that are likely to move Such as party walls Leavin a 3 mill gap Rake it out when skiming This leaves an even gap that is very easy to caulk when the final cote of paint goes on Wet plaster we use a 15 stop in the same way and tile 5 mil short
  12. It’s very unusual for studs to crack where the boards are butted together If they crack its movement where the board butts against a wall or ceiling Glueing them to the studs would be pointless The fixing points are marked on each board at 300 Halfing them would be a better option than glue But unnessary
  13. 300 doesn’t sound deep enough If you dig the foundations down 600 x 600 and request a visit from your local building control They will tell you there and then if you are deep enough
  14. Ha ha Not worth the paper that they are printed on
  15. I agree A friend who self built has just taken one out four years on In order to sell Hrs paid an exstra thousand
  16. We have had two visits in total One he didn’t get out of the car to muddy Hes asked for all my certs after BC have signed off Im not sure if he will come out for sign off The money spent would have paid for a nice holiday
  17. We had a simalar exsperience I told them that there was no main contractor and I was going to build the house myself They weren’t interested Buildzone where fine In the event of a claim I don’t exspect any of them to ever pay out On my next build I won’t bother with a waurentee I would just buy one retrospectively if we decided to sell
  18. I think when I posed a simalar question a couple of years back The most accurate response I received was Playing with our lives The short answer is They are doing this because they can We have had little stress throughout the build But the stage you are at For us and I guess you Is the most stressful part of the build When you get your commencement notice this will just be a bad memory and end any dealings with the planners Hang on in there
  19. We have done most of the shows o er the last three years NEC is by far the best day out We went Block and Block But there was loads that where relevant Enjoy
  20. I’m not sure why you would need to glue the boards You could fix at 150 instead of 250 Studs dont crack down the centre joints Extra screws or glue won’t make any differen to movement cracks around the edges Dabing the walls before the studs go up Or boarding the externals first Then fixing a three mil skim stop in the internals and corking would be a better course
  21. The drive slopes towards the house so I wasn’t keen to build up the front But BC said I have a choice between front and side No chance for either back door I’m not sure if that was just mine
  22. It’s unfinished but compacted You can drive a car within a mtr of the ramp This door leads to the utility Then through another door into the kitchen between two lots of units Around the Island then onto the living area Totally unsuitable for a wheel chair My brother in-laws drives his chair through the French doors at the back of the house and parks himself in front of the tv Great acces But around the back of the house so deemed not suitable
  23. Yep It took me best part of a day
  24. Building control was booked for sign off The lady that had discussed my timber ramp had rung in sick A replacement was on his way He agreed I had followed the disabled access to the letter and stated that he will add a note to the sign off paths and driveway paving incomplete Temporary ADEQUATE Disabled acces Installed He stated that the rules are the same accross the U.K. Its worth thinking about to those who have had to leave the outside to consenteate on the inside Or simply haven’t got the funds till they revive there vat rebate we intend to build that area up With sweeping paving Pretty much like Jeremy pictured recently It is worth noting He also stated that many of the house builders are falling foul of these rules By not having a LEVEL landing in front of the door
