  1. To be fair Your best pushing the beads on tight and stapling every 200 mil Skim beads are not ideal to make any adjustment If they are not tight on the angle they are prone to crack
  2. A quick answer is there arnt any flaws If you need any of the walls to be structural Simply use I stud Far stronger than timber You can also use res bar on any MF studs If you take your time you will find it easier than timber Dont bother buying crimpers There ok But a devil to unpick when you have to move Somthing If you buy a couple of Irwin C clamps They are great for holding the stud in position while you get a wafer head in If you need any advise Don’t hesitate
  3. Speaking from exsperience Most will eat on the go Or perhaps take 15 minutes sat in there van The problem with supplying a hut or van Is that it will become pretty rough quite quickly Unless you keep it clean As the trades won’t I wouldn’t leave any power tools onsite Yours or there’s If you supply temporary power or a genorator You will be doing more than many of the housebuilders As most of us have to take our own generators to site and it’s a pleasant surprise when someone does it for us Most builders are pretty hardy Ive worked on two jobs last year that didn’t have a loo
  4. We ran up a bill for 13 k for much away and reclaimed hardcore in I went to settle up But someone had taken THE pen This a multi million pound outfit But typical of Groundworks Companies Back of fag packet Ours was plus vat But I’m sure if I had slapped 13 k on the desk He would have said thanks
  5. Always lots more cracking on TF Timber stud wall are a real problem Even on block Mf doesn’t shrink or move We also add a deflection head to allow some lateral movement We have to allow for a 100 mill of lateral movemt on some of the warehouses
  6. We almost purchased a cotage with a simalar access Tge solicitor told us it was written in stone Access for coal etc and bins As John has already pointed out Foot traffick Whilst there was an old couple there that used the accessonce per week Our solicitor pointed Should the neighbour require daily access It would be unreasonable to obstruct the gate in any way Its not ideal but you may have to have a solicitor draft a letter
  7. Yes best to wait But when you fill them You will need to make them bigger Press a screwdriver or blunt paint scraper to make a V All the way along the crack and will stop them re. cracking
  8. Not sure about the rest But it definitely has a white tint to it
  9. Sadly I think this is the point I’ve made on several occasions Selbuilders read Spons contractors don’t Most seem to base there prices on how much work they have in at the time It would be worth taking your drainage drawing into your builders merchants Preferably where you have an account Most will give you a detailed quote for all materials Then at least you will know exactly where you are at with laboure and materials I suspect that if you where building half a dozen houses His drainage quote would be more in keeping with the rest of his work
  10. Normally the flat side Against the insulation I don’t supose it would matter The left one would dig into the insulation when you knock it on
  11. Well worth getting a structural engineer and informing the Counsul Many people don’t bother purchase a house a couple years back The chimney breast had been removed Ground and first floor and timbers placed on top of the cieling joists Holding the remainder
  12. I was speaking more about Studwork As aposed to mf But you will always have more sound transfer on a house that is predominantly timber But if TF are far more suited to self builders Much quicker to get watertight We do blocks of student accommodation in T F Good for us as they are not weather dependant Why do the major house builders not go for TF They wouldnt sell
  13. It was Easyfit garage doors 4.6 wide x 220 cost 1050 plus 300 of that was for the non standard colour Sectional was another 300
  14. I Quik answer is yes Brick and block all day long for sound Timber is hopeless For sound insulation it’s all about keeping walls and cieling Seperate as much as possible If you go down the route of TF It is well worth hanging a mf cieling 50 mil below the floor joists ive put in a twin wall in MF between the two bathrooms You can’t even hear the loo flush when you are stood at the other side of the wall It all about transfer of sound Timber soaks it like a sponge Mf is not even 10% of the densety of equivelant timber While I don’t claim to be an exspect I’ve specialised in sound and fireproofing for over thirty years
  15. It’s just an rsj With a few mobs and a strip of ply to fix to
  16. I Quik answer is yes Brick and block all day long for sound Timber is hopeless For sound insulation it’s all about keeping walls and cieling Seperate as much as possible If you go down the route of TF It is well worth hanging a mf cieling 50 mil below the floor joists
  17. Myself and my wife have just fitted our garage door The quotes that we were getting for a fitted door where double what we paid It took us two hours to fit and I had a further hour setting the limits Exstremely easy to fit Though an exstra pair of hands feeding the curtain in would have made it even quicker
  18. I bought a Clarke years back Simalar to you Occasional use Still works fine Machine mart are pretty good if there are any problems
  19. We’ve looked for Somthing other than bleach to put down the loos Can anyone recommend Somthing that won’t kill the bacteria in our treatment plant

  21. If you use local authority BC You will find them totally different to planners As I have Funny enough our senior bc has left prest for pastures new in Birmingham Phil Singh No his stuff and very fair minded
  22. You can get 2.5 2.7and 3000 boards To eliminate joints Or just add T bar No chance of cracking
  23. Not loads better than Wickes Where I gain over Wickes Os the more specialised boards moister sb insulated 5 mil etc I think I’m about £4 cheaper on SB Its a mans wages for the day on 50 boards
