Plastic gutters 1800 spaces
-
I think that would be overkill Russ If you look at some of the old houses that have stayed dry for decades Without felt or membranes Most of the roofs on here would probably be fine without slates or tiles
-
I can’t understand British Gypsun still selling Board finish Does the same job I buy board finish as it is 20 p a bag cheaper We normally buy few palettes per week Every penny counts
-
Yes foil Or a bg foam backed Board Tapered edge are better I not sur why square edge are sold anymore
-
If you use 12.5 mil boards on the cielings All endges need to be supported Best to use 15 mill TP boards on the cielings As you can set your joists or trusses at 600 without any need for noggings Foil back boards to underside of trusses and any flat roofs With the exception of bathroom cielings No one does a foil back Moister So bc will accept either in 15 mil to bathrooms I ideally go with moister Moister 12.5 boards to bathroom walls and personal choice for wall Soundblock etc Or just 12.5 wallboards Abito boards are worth looking at Bit pricey Allow an exstra 60% for labour No good for fit and dab

I’m framing and plastering a mil at the moment 5% vat 20% on the materials To write off 15% would be a large sum by the time the job has finished Your tiler would find it very difficult to claim back the vat at full rate if he has only charged 5% Ive been vat registered for over 35 years and still get caught out Back in the day A call to your local tax office would make things clearer Now you just get a call centre

Most will order the boards in But if you have a ring round Someone May have a part pack in stock If you ask for gypsum backer boards They are bright yellow in colour Hope this helps
-
Moister boards are fine Hardy backer is outdated gypsum backer out performs both and cuts like plasterboard They are yellow in colour Bit pricey at £16 for a 2,4 x 1.2 sheet Graet to tile onto No need to seal Easy to handle also
-
Sounds like you have been busy We hired one from speedy £80 for a week Absolutely fantastic But like you say Messy We masked all the windows But that mist goes everywhere Ok in a newly plastered house
-
Osb looks pretty shit Though burns a treat
-
Plasterboard is pretty cheap If you have an able helper and take your time Years back we used to tape the joints Give the whole cieling a coat of board finish and do a figure eight with a pasting brush Looked of Now we tape and sand the joints and screw heads

The mystical parge...and how do I do this bit?
nod replied to mvincentd's topic in Plastering & Rendering
Parge coat is a waste of money Making surer that the blockwork is pointed up correctly If the dot and dab is done correctly there is no need 99% of the Parge I use is specked for party walls For soundproofing As most sites insist that the blocks are pointed and bar jointed One coat plaster is for DIY and best applied in two coats It’s basically projection plaster If your not to bothered over the finish It will do the job Though quite exspensive you can bullnose the hard angles by lapping a fine mesh from the plasterboard Over the corner and fixing it to the block Two coats of plaster Seperate sets -
Shrinkage is more likely If was a matter of the wrong bonding agent You could get tandem areas blowing But cracking like you have described will be down to the structure under the boards The majority of my work is plastering or tiling onto MF framing We always have far more snagging on timber As already pointed out It drys out But even with the MF We always add deflection heads to allow movement

The boiler is a Greenstar 30i cylinder is 250 litres Will run all three bathrooms and UFH Quite comfortably Not sure about the upstairs heating as we have not needed it on since moving in
-
Ouch!
-
We have switched the UFH off in there With the door shut it reaches 26 most days my wife puts her washing in there in the morning and it’s bone dry by mid afternoon

-
Yeah I agree Just a nice vision between the pan and tile
-
Are you putting a sound mat at the back of the toilet I tightened all mine against the 5 mill foam Then trimef the excess off with a Stanley knife Then a fine bead of forever white to finish

Local vs non-local, but specialist, trades
nod replied to Nick1c's topic in General Construction Issues
If local arnt available You need to look further afield BUT be careful unless they come as part of a build package you could get stung My experience of the Easten Europeans is that they will have a go at anything But you don’t want someone gaining experience on your job In saying that I’ve two Ukrainians that have worked for me for over ten years and they are fine But they get the same wages as everyone else and more importantly They are settled in Manchester and have families. A lot closer than chasing them in the Ukraine If there’s a cock up -
Good luck with your twenty quotes Groundwork company’s are.very hard to pin down This Brexit will blow over After the vote we where going to see interest rates soar and we where going to be out of work Not much sign of building work slowing in the NW I wouldn’t negotiate to hard on laboure as they will move onto Somthing betterpart way through your build Supplyers are where you can make a large saving Massive differences between the price of the same products If you are in a position to order ahead of time mansging the build yourself wont be a problem If you employ good trades Not the cheapest who happen to be available

Unfortunately You don’t seem to have much choice nowadays Weather a kitchen or a carpet Large deposit upfront The rest on delivery Windows bifolds B&B All supply only All wanted the balance before delivered Its just worth paying a potion of the deposit on your credit card
