nod replied to mm289's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
We’ve been to a few The NEC is by far the best and a great facially day out -

A house is very easy to estimate Only a case of counting up and m2 also Id very little over But mist things can be returned to the supplier for a refund If you get a QS in they often round things up knowing that
-
200 ish Its easy to do it yourself
-
Hi and welcome We where in a similar position While the plot looked flat we also had 600 mil of spoil from a previous build that had been grassed over All to be removed before we broke ground We used strip foundations with a BB floor This wasn’t particularly expensive and hassle free
-
Your local builders merchants will do you a bill of quantity for around £200 Just hand them your drawings
-
Straight onto hardcore onsite As long as the ground is solid
-
That looks fine to me

I’m not a big fan of plastic But I used it anyway I used black grained UPVC Simply for maintenance The soffits where 5 or 6 mil from GAP In truth you can’t really see the grain from the ground But they are dull and could easily pass for painted

Smoke/heat alarm for large kitchen?
nod replied to MJNewton's topic in Electrics - Kitchen & Bathroom
We have a heat alarm in a kitchen diner 12 mtrs by 6 It’s situated about 4 mtrs from the hob Heat detectors don’t tend to give false alarms My electrician friend said if a smoke goes off open a window If a heat alarm goes off Run like F*** -
Looks great quick progress

220 is very low One option would be to splay the plasterboard and put some down lights in it so it would look like a lighting pelmet
-
-
Your SE will have presented you with the easiest Cheapest option From my understanding of your sketch are you not wanting to see the horizontal beam in your kitchen or a virtual beam or both If horizontal are have you enough headroom to drop the ceiling 250 ?
-
The annoying thing is I’ve had to place another order for next week
-
Yeah it’s not great K rends a problem We get ten packs delivered and lift them with the telehabdler as we need them It’s really easy to Chuck a pack in a van £500 quid The city centre job are like Fort Knox But these industrial estates can be quite remote and always within a mil of a motorway junction
-
be very careful with your insulation we have had £6k in insulation stolen over the weekend from an office block All was loaded between three floors They simply tossed it out of the widow opens We have a partial number plate Police have been really helpful and asked us to try and get the rest of the reg Get it onsite and use it as quickly as you can

When I buy it in it’s often cheaper to over order It’s often left outside for 12 months Always gets used or someone takes it at the end of the job

Brick cleaning, when it is optimum time post laying?
nod replied to epsilonGreedy's topic in Brick & Block
I’m not a Brickie but I built up to slab propitious to getting block layers in It was November cold and wet So wet I had to point up the following mornings I simply used a sponge to clean any excess With the intention of cleaning with acid once the house was built -
