+1 to this. My BCO told me what he wanted and I did it. If I remember rightly, I have a 1.3 c/m soakaway for garage roof which is 12.5m x 6m and 3 .6m soakaway for house roof and roof terrace which is 10m x 10m and 5m x 9m. I have another soakaway for a lower roof but it follows the same ratio (ish)

Thanks Jeremy, so just to confirm I only need my SWA and nothing else from house to garage to be able to put PV in the future on the garage roof? TIA
-
Already bought the cable! Have read Prodave message again and understand what he means by extra cable duct if inverter in separate building to PV panels. I will only be putting up about a 4kw array and most people on here have used 6mm and it all works fine. I just need to know that all I need to put in place is a 6mm cable and nothing else. Thanks

My garage is approx 15 metres from the house and in the future may put PV on the garage roof. I am about to put in my SWA (6mm) for the power to the garage, do I need to put anything else in to enable me to install PV or is the SWA sufficient? I would want the inverter etc in the garage, mains supply comes into the house and then to the garage via the 6mm SWA.TIA

Taking my neighbours tree down wqithout his consent
Pete replied to Tony K's topic in Party Wall & Property Legal Issues
We had a similar issue in that we had a massive Yew tree on the other side of a 10ft wall that the Tree officer thought would impact on our build. He then gave us a list of things we had to do which included hand digging (no machinery)within a certain distance of the tree, root protection etc. I spoke to the local who had worked with trees all his life, laid hedges etc and he said Yew trees are bomb proof and there was no need for all the precautions set out in our PP. We then dug down carefully (with machinery) and never came across a root so do your homework. This Yew tree is about 15m tall so has been around a while and is still there to be enjoyed. -
My timber frame guy used the scaffold to jack off seen as we had underfloor heating and did not want to pierce the pipes but then proceeded to screw the inner walls sole plate down across the doorways and nearly pierced a pipe. Make sure they do not screw down in door openings as it is easy to forget when you cannot see the pipes

I do that everyday, we are self builders, that's what we do

Could you please show your schematic for us to have a look at please? TIA

I'm in the same boat with my garage floor. The power screed fell to bits on the day we poured and it cut along story short my floor is like the surface of the moon. ?

Thanks very much, why do you have more doubts when doing it for yourself!

@AnonymousBosch, when you actually take the yellow discs out and have a look at the size of the hole in the brass casting it is quite small so my way of thinking is 15mm pipes will be ok (I think)
-
Yes, had the same thought but with the smaller 1/2" on the outlet of the controller to the shower then surely it does not matter if the supply pipes are not 22mm. @PeterWwill know!
-
Just about to fit this Hansgrohe controller and wondered if anybody has fit one of these? I am just dithering (as we self-builder's do) because the two inlet connections which are the yellow discs are 3/4" and the two outlets are 1/2" which go th the shower itself. I have fitted 15mm supply pipes but the bit I am dithering over is should I have run 22mm seen as it is 3/4" or am I just over thinking it. I think I need to just get the appropriate fittings and use the 15mm pipe seen as I am using 15mm from the controller to the shower. TIA

Can you set the chop saw to do small incremental changes ? You sometimes need an angle finder which will give you the exact angle to which you can set your chop saw. Have you tried using some old timber pieces to get the angle right if you do not have an angle finder?
-
Yes you can, that is what I have to do to satisfy my S/Insp

Our slab was power floated and it was out of level quite a bit which created a lot more work for me

Just to close this thread, the connector from the Geberit 90 degree bend to 110mm pipe is only push-fit and not solvent weld. (Thanks @Temp, sometimes the simple things are overlooked!)
-
Can people please tell me if the end of the pipe that goes into the 110mm pipe be solvent welded or is it just push fit? TIA

Has anybody used one of these Geberit combined waste/ overflow system? We have two of these and not sure whether to use them or not. The problem is the sink does not have an overflow unless this system is used but I do not really want a pull up lever on the taps. I think you can get a separate rotating knob but have not managed to source one yet. The only other option is not to use this and just put in a pop up waste and hope nobody leaves the tap running. Any ideas of what people have done would be very much appreciated. TIA

My staircase manufacturer said he uses Tuff x and told me to try them

These are the fields next to our build that may have that may have 86 houses built on them. The whole layout is in a dip and is the flood plain for our end of the village but the local authorities seem to struggle to understand this!!

Really sorry to hear about this, it must be awful. Makes me nervous as we have a large area of flat roof and it is covered in Sarnafil.
