One advantage of not using the local authority for building control is that they don't get to see how close the house is to being habitable.

Okay, I'll see if I can dig them out tomorrow, take a pic or two and measure.

Ian, i've not read all this thread, and have not yet had a chance to check all the odds and sods I have left over, but I know have quite a few joist hangers if you want them.

We dispensed with the portaloo as soon as we had a water connection and, having now fitted the bathrooms, I have a WC and pedestal basin (with tap) spare if anyone can make use of them and is willing to collect from Southampton area.

This is not an easy post to write.....

Ian, I can only echo the thoughts expressed by others, and offer the prospect that your end goal will feel all the sweeter when you achieve it. On a practical note, I'm sure I'm not the only one with various 'stuff' left over from my build. Rather than sticking it in the back of the shed, I'll pm you a list in the next few days and if any of it would be helpful I'll happily have it couriered up to you. Keep your chin up.- 62 replies

If anyone is looking for external lights, we've just installed 14 of these https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B01G78W4M0/ref=pd_aw_sim_201_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=GRNK773S4VW5WKM28PZE At £15 each they're a bargain, seem well made and look pretty good in our opinion.

Okay Clyde, stack the cladding.

Only stuff we bought from TP was the Marley Cedral Click as they were close to 15% cheaper than the nearest competitor's price.

22mm OSB with 15mm plasterboard over that. One day I might even slap some paint on it.

Good stuff. Hope all goes well

isn't there also the potential for 'marmite' issues arising where one or more members are happy to recommend a product that others dismiss as being rubbish. For example.....
-
@TerryE, that's a coincidence. We too used Complete Stair Systems.

New diesel and petrol vehicles to be banned from 2040
NSS replied to Triassic's topic in Environmental Building Politics
In 1981 I was driving a 1965 Buick Riviera 425ci Super Wildcat that did 7mpg (on 5* fuel). I now drive a Jag XE R-Sport that averages over 50mpg and I have recently returned over 80mpg on a trip to Birmingham and back. Battery technology will make similar advances, volume production will lower prices, and tests are already underway with 'in road' charging that will make it possible to top up battery levels as you drive. -

Not sure what all the fuss is about. The car will have evolved enormously by 2040, as it has in the last 23 years. For example, the European Car of the Year award was won, in 1995, by that shining example of modern motoring, the Fiat Punto. -
You could always use.... On second thoughts, I'd better not open that can again

Might be worth looking at Thermowood. They claim 30 year durability untreated for cladding use and up to 60 years if treated at regular intervals. Half of our build is clad with it and the rest in Marley Cedral Click. One advantage of the Thermowood is that it's very stable.

Let's just say you're within a couple of grand

Not as much as you might expect.

It's also there to tie the inner stringers to the outer ones. I'll take a pic of the underside when I get a chance.

It was all going so well, but one piece of glass doesn't fit as they'd not allowed for the architrave on the doorway
