  1. 400mm rather than 600mm joist spacing eliminates the bounce from what I've observed. I've glued and screwed 22mm ply either side of the joists on my longest spans - seems to help.
  2. Ours goes to the top of the blocks. The DPM laps with the DPC.
  3. that's assuming the final floor level is to the top of the block.... ours is but best check.
  4. you may have to bring the internal stud out a bit with battens and then board. That's your easiest solution I imagine.
  5. I don't think you will push them through the grp with your hand - never tried but grp is way tougher than the foil I guess. Not sure whether the gun will push them in - perhaps hire one and try?
  6. Try https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7JDe14ppz2I You can hire them I believe. You can push them in with your hands but it takes a fair push (through the foil face really) and your hand will ache after an hour or two. But it is cheap and OK if its just a few.
  7. We found similar. We were told it was prob for earthing - no idea what needed earthing where we found ours.
  8. Good idea - cheers Nick.
  9. Thanks all, You've convinced me not to use the SL and I think I'm going to use Nicks trick. Appreciate the input - the hardest bit about self building is that there's no one to mull options over with. Must remember to take my stilettos off tonight......
  10. Looking for some advice.... 22mm P5 floor in timber frame. Laid by a chippy who must have left his level at home that day so the floor has a wee hump in it. I took as much off with a sander as I dared but still a bit there. I had laid ditra matting and eufh cables and I was going to compensate for the floor using more/less adhesive under the tiles. Her in doors called around today and suggested self levelling compound - seems sensible - as long as I can get it to flow and settle level then it would make tiling easier plus it would protect the eufh cables as I put the adhesive down. Good / bad idea? If its a good one - what would be a good recommended product to use to self level the floor? Cheers.
  11. Try asking a local dairy farmer - a lot of the liquids they use come in IBC's now - stay away from the cleaning ones, ask if they have any teat spray (iodine) ones.
  12. Not a bad county, only a recent arrival but its better than Essex!
  13. You need a trade account. CTD seemed easy to set one up with - part of Jewson. Topps will also set up trade account if you take evidence of self build in.
  14. Thought you were older than that.....
  15. Was that during the war?

    Bathroom led's

tidy - was going for the e5 https://www.directtradesupplies.co.uk/product.php/188708/enlite-e5-fixed-4-5w-dimmable-ip65-fire-rated-led-downlight--cool-white-?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI8te5_u303AIV2PZRCh2zjg1QEAQYAyABEgI92fD_BwE I don't really need the power - I've got a few there and think it will be OTT with 8w. Cool white rather than warm white. have you powered them up in anger - good?
  17. Looks a whole lot better, nice quarts worktop.

    Bathroom led's

Hi @Onoff - I assume they were the enlite e5? Seen some online for about £8 without the bezel, which is a lot better than the screwfix price. Did you go for the cool white? If so whats it like? ☺️

    Bathroom led's

Hi all, while I wait for a few items to arrive I thought I'd get some 2nd fix electrics done - the one area I'm not sure on are the bathroom led's. I've bought cheap ones in the past and while I've not had any real probs with then, I'd be happy to go a bit more upmarket for the bathroom - so does anyone have some good recommendations for led's suitable for fitting into bathrooms. Thanks in advance.
  20. The chap I wanted to do my tiling says he butters the back of wall tiles - his attitude is why not? Waiting for a bath and filler to arrive so I can finish the hole drilling in the floor - then tiling starts!
  21. I'm with Nick on this one - I'd be banging them on using a batten & some bricks etc. Its all interesting though!
  22. I bought 3 of these http://www.britishbathroomcompany.co.uk/showers/concealed-shower-valves/reign-thermostatic-shower-valve-1581 They were about 70 each from memory - they have gone up a lot. Just bought a bath from bathstore321 - good prices. All the other stuff (4 toilets, 3 basins & taps, bath tap) just ordered from victorian plumbing - asked for more discount (order was £2200) and got another 7% off. No hesitation either, but woulnd give more than that. Worth shopping around and being cheeky.
  23. If the current pace continues then this will be at least a year too pessimistic.
  24. Interesting. I wish I had the knowledge you guys have on all this IT stuff.....
  25. silver grey it is then.....
