  1. Me to. Back in the 1980s, we manufactured the body kits for the Colt Gallant. It was pointed out that the pattern work was pretty rough and it looked like the corner of the front bumper/spoiler had already hit a wall. Colt Cars refused to have it put right and told use to carry on manufacturing. Every single Gallant I saw my eye was drawn to the front nearside corner. At the boat show once, I was chatting to the Sunseeker salesman and pointed out that the moulds for their latest models must have been rushed as there was a waviness to them. I think it was my comment "at half a million quid I would expect better" that pissed him off. I bet he saw nothing else on every one of their boats after that though.

  2. Ok so I tackled this today - wasn't quite as straightforward as I'd hoped!! Ended up using a chisel to prise out the beads in the gap between bead and frame - get it in and bend it slowly then wedge in the scraper above. Had to be patient and do it a few times before it was bent slightly out of shape, and then I could pull it off. Rinse repeat for the other 3. Trying to remove the rubber and then wedge the scraper in between glass and bead ended up cracking the glass and the bead wasn't moving at all! Anyway, new frame in now, had to shave a bit off it to cram it in, a few screws and then the total pita of getting the inside strips in to hold the glass!! Will seal tomorrow. Thanks to all for the advice, extremely helpful!

  3. That’s what I did. (with a brick and block construction).

  4. That's good to know, looks like I have made a nice cosy spot for them. No wonder they love it.

  5. Peppercorn rent for a specified period? Land is yours. No ifs buts or maybes. But for the next 25? (life of fence?) years the neighbour can rent it for £1. Agreement to include description of official boundary with respect to current fence. That way he maintains the fence; you have no issues when selling the place etc.

  6. I think part of the problem with most energy companies is that the genuine errors should not be happening in the first place i.e. incorrect meter reading, simple change of address not happening. My recent experience has been that there is an assumption that all errors are the customer's fault, and that the customer is trying to rob them. And then I here is the outright lies. You can sit Infront of your computer and see the daily files, while at the same time being told that the meter is not reporting the data. I never like to look for a conspiracy, when incompetence can explain it, but I am starting to wonder if some sharp business practice is going on. I recently changed car, so had to get a new insurance quote. My old insurer could not compete, so took out a new policy. Told my old insurer to make sure that auto renewal was switched off (I never auto renew anyway), told it had been, then had £600+ taken out of my account. What really bugs me though is that nearly all the companies I have dealt with recently have been 'updating' their systems. One of them have had the same message for at least 15 months, so I guess it is a Fujitsu system. The other is the message about being polite to the call handlers. If the companies feel the need to put that message up, they know they have a problem. They need to deal with the problem, not the symptoms of their incompetence.

  7. triggering DHW production 5 or 10 mins before a large demand certainly works- but it takes this long for the ASHP to ramp up in my experience.

  8. Good advice thanks @Nickfromwales as I’m counter battening the ceiling I might just fit all the pipes then batten up to the pipes and plasterboard, the gap will only be small and probably not really noticeable, seems like an easier option

  9. A big problem with this suggestion is that it doesn't deal with the different Delta Ts of the heating system. You need 20 at the boiler and about 7 across the UFH which means a significantly different flow rates! Just one pump feeding the system is not going to cut it, I'm afraid. And with the mass flow rate calcs, you're very likely to still need a flow temp of around 50C at the boiler for this to actually work. There has got to be some form of mixing in there. @Adsibob may I suggest that with the engineer/s you're speaking to, you focus on the principles of the system, not specific suggested solutions or products? So highlight the solar gain, modulation, efficiency, comfort etc. and of course your budget and if necessary be willing to junk existing controls and set aside your preconceptions etc. (although by the sounds of it, you're rather close to that point anyway - I personally would be outraged at a £3 per month subscription for control functionality that can be gotten more acurately with good system setup and a sensor plugged into the boiler itself). At the end of the day you're only really worried about a system that provides comfort, simple manageability and reliability without much regular input by you.

  10. If you run out of water 4 things to do Heat it hotter - needs more cold water to mix down to correct temperature - increases the effective volume of hot water Heat it more often - let it heat when it needs, to little and often. Reduce flow at outlet or time used, your using to much water Get a bigger cylinder - your cylinder is too small for your lifestyle or number of people in the house

  11. I foam in sleeves made from 25mm flexible conduit, and then pull the pipes through them. If that needs to be sealed up, squirt some CT1 around the pipe where it exits the sleeve.

  12. Yup. Makes the pan move about, and leaves a bigger gap to cosmetically seal around. Looks shart IMHO, and you'll defo notice how easy it is for the pan to be moved. "Don't do it"....

  13. I rate Octopus because their customer service is less bad than many others, and you are actually in control, you can set your DD amount or as others have said just pay actual bills, if you end up too much in credit you can ask for some back etc. So many other suppliers just choose their own random amount, make silly estimates, won't let you change anything and hold onto a large credit, and won't even discuss it. In other words Octopus allow the things you expect and would hope are normal, but so many people with other suppliers have plenty of horror stories.

  14. OK, EPDM installed - Ordered it from Rubber4roofs / Optagon, which turns out to be employee-owed, so that was a nice surprise. Reasonably easy to fit, although I made my life difficult by not having a completely flat roof deck. Just a few bits of trim waiting on a tube of superglue to go up. I guess I can't put it off any longer - time to start tidying the garden and trying to rescue the turf.

  15. It shouldn't really leave the pan off the wall much at all, just to fill the undulations of the tiles/pan, allow for full contact and a longer lasting seal than your typical bathroom sealant.

  17. Have you considered demolition and building a new house? Sounds like you're at about the tipping point where it's potentially a more cost effective option. Even if it costs more, the end product will be superior. If not, a 50mm cavity is next to useless. If you are rendering, a ~100mm of EWI then a silicon/acrylic render system would be the way to go.

  19. You can probably apply the same thinking to tapes, do they lose adhesion over time ? or peel due to movement or shrinkage, once all covered up you'll never know

  20. If the threaded bar is a bit feeble you could ask if you can change the spacing to match the spacing of the concrete pads inside the blocks. How we fit the wall plate without struggling, mark its location on the wall and ping a chalk line to give you the bottom height. Fix a temporary timber roof batten screwed into face of block, you can now sit your heavy wall plate (rim joist) correct word in my book on top of the batten it will help support while you mark and drill all the holes. When all tight remove batten and use it on the other side.

  21. It is always thus. I see things on old projects that still bug me, but nobody else ever noticed or notices, because they aren't looking. Hypnotism must be the answer.

  22. Wife now thinks she may have been in shower over 20 minutes so it could be she completely used up all the water! This hasn't happened when I've had a big bath and she had the large showerhead on and the Mira shower is really powerful. I should have got on the app whilst she was in and adjusted the temperature to cold.....
