  1. The ice generally provides some relief to the person (dog) directly in front of the fan but doesn't particularly help to lower the room temperature. You could try wetting a towel with cold water and placing it under / over him and then run the fan on him. Poor dog . Fingers crossed the bypass works.

  4. I've PM'd both the above parties with a view to build hub buying the item to add to our member-only tool loan scheme. If / when we are successful, I'll start a new thread for an 'order of borrowance', where any interested members can book a loan slot. Thanks ( BH Treasury ) aka Nick.

  9. Being a digital type tech job I reckon the remote is a backup control option and your meant to download an app and use that. A quick search brings up an app called undok . Install this and see if it's better to use. Spotify is great to use. I have it on my Sonos and the song list is endless.

  10. Checked in tonight expecting to see one of these threads. Wasn't suprised! I think you have to posses a good understanding of how your system works to control the houses temperature. There's a few in here that have cracked it sure they will be along to help. Bit of experimentation and you should find a way.

  14. Yeah possibly! Not sure how much they charge in general but wasn't expecting it to be that much TBH. Hey ho, it's signed off now and that's the important thing.

  15. Crap! Turned another room upside down and found it in a crate. An hour after ordering a replacement. Still no sign of the remote and I didn’t order one of those ?. Maybe I’ll email them and ask if I can swap for a remote .... Now to see whether it works.

  16. Is it a wall replacement ..?? I’ve got a couple of contacts who would do it online from a sketch

  17. Good question, there is a vestigial north facing garden that side of the house that will not be particularly private for 5 years until when the new hedge should grown to above car height. That side of the house will get some sun after 17:30 during the summer. We will put a stable door in this door aperture which might prove useful for creating some cross airflow when I burn toast or when the solar gain from the large south facing window overheats the kitchen. This comment strikes home, the commercial developer of an adjacent plot got planning permission for the very change you suggest. I had previously ignored his design on the basis this other house is about 20% larger by floor area. Following the forum's input, Swmbo and I now feel the openplan drop of the stairs into the sitting room is sound however we are now questioning the usage of the kitchen/snug area. Plan C involves moving the kitchen into the snug area, 12ft x 13ft so still a decent size for a kitchen. With the kitchen relocated the snug (dayroom) function can be moved to the old kitchen's location and so benefit from the property's 3rd fireplace and the large window facing the sunny patio.

  19. It's not adventitious because when we designed the house we wanted the bathrooms to be a little bit warmer than the other rooms. The advantage of that is that the air extracted from those rooms can help warm the incoming air to the house. The towel rails are always on,unless those rooms are warm enough without them. I don't know how effective a pre-heater would be, I guess it would depend on where in the country you live. Yes, I've never used it. We have the hot water set at 45C. I think it can be timed to come on whenever you want. It sound feasible. I'm sure if the surface of the flooring is insulating it will be as comfortable underfoot as a heated less insulating surface. On the rocks is swearing.

  22. You need attic trusses. Common up here for part room in roof houses. It also gives you an uncluttered loft space. For hipped roofs they make a set where the end trusses are shaped to the hip, or that but can be cut on site.

  23. Ok so you will either need an engineered truss or a cut roof with steels as purlins just above the sloping ceiling height. Have you tried the truss manufacturers ..? DWB in Hull would design and cut the whole roof for you - they also do engineered joists for the first floor and will use engineered joists for rafters too if you need to get the depth for insulation.

  24. Before I start trying to move things around, why is there another door at the side of the kitchen? I would really alter this area especially with your comments re spending most time there. Why is the kitchen not open to this area which you say is the most attractive aspect of the plot? If the front door is really very rarely used, plan B would be better. The layout is quite American. I would not rearrange house for heating issues, they will be negligible and any changes made for this reason would annoy you forever.

Air flow meters which the name of I can never remember or spell........anonemeters or summat We have 2 which were, iirc, donated to the forum. We loan items out at £10 BH donation per loan ( lender to cover the P&P to receive it from its previous user ) which helps drip feed the BH bank account to keep us updated, safe, and online.

  29. Something like this? Comes with different size connectors ( universal ) and you simply reverse the plug in part to change polarity https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/70W-4A-12-15-16-18-19-20-24-VOLT-UNIVERSAL-LAPTOP-POWER-SUPPLY-CHARGER-ADAPTOR/121956068898?hash=item1c6525ee22:g:sNMAAOSwmkpZexZw

  30. I suspect the blue tooth bit is to connect it's own speakers to itself to avoid pesky wires and not for connecting your phone. Re the power supply is there anything written next to the power socket. I am awaiting delivery from China of a blue tooth adaptor for the hifi. I eagerly await what my £1.28 may have bought me.

  33. Morning all, I have now finished creating my Sketchup Free model and have just noticed it has sucked up 37 days of my life....many mistakes were made but I got there in the end! Attached are various views of the house, the furniture is there just as an aide to understanding what we can put in and where. North is in the direction of the fence which runs between our property and the neighbours green house. The house is approx. 260m2, the garage is a large double, with a store to the left and then a car port type cover to the left of that to accommodate the motorhome (not quite big enough but better than a massive white vehicle creating an obvious eye sore!). The two rear bedrooms with just a bed in are for our girls, the room in the middle is going to be a shared walk in wardrobe/dressing room with a shared en-suite accessed from there. For an idea of scale, the three beds to the left are standard double and the larger one is a super king. The main bathroom has a bath in the centre, along one side is a shower and a steam room, along the other is a sauna. Ground floor - the room on the far left will be a cinema room, at the top of that (nothing in it at the minute) will be the plant room and the utility is just to the right of that. All critique good or bad is welcome and encouraged, even where I may disagree with comments, it is still useful to have received them as they prompt me to consider my approach from another perspective and either reaffirms in my mind the approach we are taking or leads me to amend the plan. TIA.

  35. Sorry for my late participation in this thread-was cruising South London basking in the envious glances at my 07 plate Transit Crew Cab whilst pre 1982 Simple Minds pumped out of the speakers. Okay, too far for me. My nephew is in Leighton B’stard & I have old friends in St Ives & St Neots who may be able to help-pm me if you want & Ill give you some numbers. Readymix-I’m not a fan. The colour issue can be solved by gauging your materials into the mixer with a bucket (6 buckets of sand to 1 cement or whatever your spec is.) Colour will always be the same no matter how many labourers you sack :)) Also-with Ready spread if the weather is worse than predicted you can end up with a load of unusable rock hard gear in the skip that you’ve paid for.
