  1. Well after a week of graft by Brendan, Matt and their lads we have a slab. The weather from Tue has been appalling up here. The last two days torrential rain but they've kept going never the less. Now we we just need a break in the weather to pour the concrete. Its pencilled for Wed but all week isn't looking good according to the forecast

  2. Just finished using the Kreg jig and screws on about 35m2 of Yellow Balau. Worked a treat, made life very easy and consistent. Got it from here - https://www.tool-net.co.uk/p-403397/kreg-kjdecksys-deck-jig™-system.html

  3. Oh and we had a plasterer in this week to quote for skimming the bedrooms. I was a bit worried that he would tell me I had done all the plastering worng but he was quite complimentary - phew! He did point out a few things I could have done differently but I am happy to learn. Apart from how to plaster!

  4. Toolstation branches have a free tea / coffee / soup machine which probably helps! Quite partial to the Lipton lemon tea myself. Those x10 rubble bags they do behind the counter btw are shoite. Might as well sell them open at both ends.

  5. I needed to run a length of radial through the airtight wall and didn't want to run a 100mm duct as a sleeve. For those looking to do the same 80mm downpipe from floplas is a perfect fit

  6. I will be interested in your reasoning. The 18mm OSB seems pointless. It's no good as a final floor for carpet, use 18mm chipboard floor panels for that, and it's pointless for a wooden floor as you can just use a structural floor straight onto the battens instead to minimise build up thickness.

  8. There's a company in England which imports extra long worktops from a German company called Getalit. I ordered a 4.5m one. Cost around £500 including shipping etc. Took three weeks and arrived today. I believe they go significantly longer than that. So its not the cheapest, but its good to see a long run without joins.

  9. 90mm reduction equates to the removal of the top rail, that's a lot. +1 on the above, move the linings, it's the only sensible/logical option

  10. Speaking from the point of view of a taller individual, reducing the height of a door by the amount you suggest would make me walk away from the property as a potential rental. Is there any scope to raise the door frame header so you can still accommodate a standard door?

  12. That seems slightly light? Our 900x2400 (plus upstand dims) weighed 138kgs, although it's triple glazed. If double glazed should be right but still seems on the light side. Is it being build in situ?

  13. Ah but should it actually say:................ "Lifetime of the house, insolvency/collapse of the company/manufacturer or infinity, whichever comes first" Tesla have already lost close to £1b! http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/transport/12152605/Tesla-losses-soar-to-889m-but-shares-jump-as-Elon-Musk-forecasts-a-profit.html I personally believe we are due another technology collapse. I know a few people that work in the tech bubble of California and the money being pumped into "one day" projects is staggering. Almost as crazy as their president!! I'm not saying Tesla is bad or are their ideals but can they make it to the shoreline intact? Or did their trunks fall down half way across the river? Yours ever so bright and cheery, ever so slightly dour Barney

  14. Suggest the battens on their side with reduced insulation. space them 400mm apart and then you can use 18mm chipboard as the final floor straight onto the battens, then carpet.Total thickness 54mm plus carpet plus air gap. If fitting a wooden floor, find an engineered floor that can span 400mm and fit that direct to the battens. forget any OSB underlay sheet.

  16. Can't solid-core doors be trimmed by that much? The bottom edge would likely then be end grain, but is that the end of the world in that position (genuine question)? I suppose the risk is cupping or distortion due to the lack of end piece. We bought plain (primed) solid fire doors locally from somewhere like Benchmarx (or maybe one of the big builders' merchants) and I was amazed at how cheap they were.

  18. Upvc with foil on - fools most people, out neighbour thought they were wood. Left on offcut in brick acid for a few weeks and nothing happened. The company we used made theirs from black plastic so if they do scratch you dont see white.
