Hi Ian, Banks and bankers they all have a silent 'W' but you'll find a way through this. As Churchill famously said: "If you're going through hell. Keep going!"- 62 replies

You need to submit a section 80 demolition notice to your local authority. Our local authority doesn't charge and turned it round in a couple of days. They will also inform all service suppliers (gas, water, electric) of your intention. Google section 80 demolition notice and your LA name and it should find you a link to th correct from.

Quite possible. I'll have to look. Certainly our supplier/installer has never mentioned it but that might just be because they are incompetent and generally useless!!

Ditto. My Internorm windows swing very freely.

The following table may be useful. InToTo (as Franchisor) are a trading name of Alno UK. Note the company number at the bottom of this page https://www.intotofranchise.co.uk/ is that of Alno UK.

They are all franchisees: https://www.intotofranchise.co.uk/

OK, I'll man up

I understand the uses ( yes the stops are for the windows ) but it was the varying thicknesses that confused me.

Before I phone the renderer and make myself look like a complete uneducated tit can someone explain this materials list he's given me for beads? 1 packet of 16-20mm angle beads 1 packets of 20mm bell casts 1 packet of 10mm stop beads (for window reveals) 2 15mm expansion beads (All plastic) So this is standard two coat sand and cement render. So so is he intending to make the render 15mm but tapering to 10mm in the window reveals and widening to 20mm from the bell cast drip?? I've looked online and there is a bewildering array of types and sizes.

I still have a standard meter. I marvel at the little silver wheel whizzing backwards like the clappers on sunny days when my PV is generating excess And yes all the relevant paperwork is in place with the DNO, I'm just basking in their incompetence

I was intending to use Aico. But from what I can gleen from the data sheets the test/silence buttons only work with the optional wireless modules which seems daft to specify when I'm hard wiring in a new build scenario? Ideally I don't want them on the walls as that's reserved for artwork

Hi All I have an interesting design challenge with smoke alarm locations. My plan is to install as follows: Hallway - (Optical) Landing - (Ionising) Kitchen - (Heat) Now the room that poses the problem is the landing as it's much bigger and higher than normal (the landing is actually a large upper drawing room). Firstly I'm going to have to fit two alarms (one at each end) as one centrally just about fails the 3m from bedroom requirement. Secondly it's a vaulted ceiling. I do have a flat area at the top but it's close to 4m high. I can fit them on the slope but the regs state that they have to be 600mm from the apex so I'm not gaining much. So testing these two alarms is going to be a challenge. They'll be interlinked so of course I can hit the test on the ones in the hall/kitchen will will confirm the audible function of these high up alarms. But to test them individually the best I can come up with is a bean pole!! You can get remote switches for testing/silencing but they seem to all rely on radio linked alarms which add considerably to the cost. Again though all they do is test all alarms at once. So, is the action of hitting the test button on one alarm and the others giving an audible result still a genuine test? Or does pressing the test button on each provide a more thorough test. I've read the manuals for most of the major brands and all say to test each alarm individually. Am am I missing any other solution? TTFN

The Intoto franchise in Exeter have been around for a long time with a good reputation and IIRC still has the same owners (The son has taken over from the father). We bought our kitchen in the barn from there some 15 years ago. As an aside it still looks like new despite being well used by a number of tenants over the last 5+ years.

I've been really lucky with my scaffolder. The boss man is a really nice guy and has been very accommodating. Even his team are really nice guys, friendly, chatty and helpful. Not a knuckle dragger in sight.

I think this is definitely the case. Jewson's managers appear to have a fair degree of autonomy which seems a little unusual considering they are part of the maaahusive SG empire. It is VERY rare that my local Jewsons is beaten on price. My contact at the branch will even price match online suppliers where he can. The local drivers are also excellent, very accommodating.

My guy is £150 a day labour only. I can't easily tell you what that equates to in m2 terms as he's given me a number of days based on, rendering outside, boarding and pink.

Thats good to hear. My plasterer seemed very relaxed. I'm just used to doing things in a particular order. #old skool

Me again! Im intending to use pre-hung door sets in the house (which ones will ultimately be driven by left over budget!!) . Talking to our plasterer (who I've used before and is good) he said he doesn't need any sacrafficial door linings. I then suggested beads around the door frame so he had something to plaster up to. He said there was no need and they would only cause cracking. Although i should take him at his word I'm worried that he won't achieve a good finish. I know the edges will be covered by architrave. Am I over thinking things? (Again!!)

Even in' all! Im planning a heating radial upstairs as a fail safe for not taking the UFH upstairs. I want ant to run a 4 core cable as a few of the electric radiator systems use a 4th core for signal control. However you can't get standard 4 core cable in 2.5mm solid copper as far as I can see so can I use something like this stranded cable for the install? (Random link selection from google) http://www.builderdepot.co.uk/2-5mm-4-core-pvc-flexible-cable-50m-drum.html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMInrLGpdeY1gIVBpPtCh1izAOhEAQYByABEgLvNvD_BwE Ta!

I'm currently with Iresa. I think they host their website on a ZX Spectrum. Alas the earlier model without the built in tape drive. -
