Will fermacel take a reasonable bit of weight then? Just screw in, no plugs?

Just wondered what people have done in terms of lining plant room walls and ceiling? Board and skim seems entirely pointless and of no use for fixing. So, I was going to go with 22mm OSB on the walls and ceiling and (only if I have time) a couple of coats of white emulsion? What have others done?

Is this the chance to buy some new tools?

P.S. if you really want to spoil yourself grab a blade runner. It is really clever and a big timesaver. No need for a straight edge and no need to cut both sides. Finding one in the U.K. Can be the tricky part. http://www.toolsofthetrade.net/hand-tools/cutting-tools/first-test-goldblatt-bladerunner_o Edit: evilbay to the rescue: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Blade-Runner-Plasterboard-Cutter-/332354544556?epid=1907615876&hash=item4d61dfe3ac:g:vJwAAOSwBlxZnYwH -

Don't muck about with a surform imho. Spend a tenner on one of these: http://www.screwfix.com/p/marshalltown-drywall-rasp/74692?kpid=74692&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIr6mw1LqB1gIV4r3tCh2yTAfbEAQYASABEgI4ofD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds&dclid=CMqqgfa6gdYCFaeD7Qodim0BUQ -
P.S. Get one of these. I keep mine charged up and its got me out of jail a couple of times: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12V-PORTABLE-CAR-JUMP-STARTER-AIR-COMPRESSOR-BATTERY-START-BOOSTER-CHARGER-LEADS/182461430331?_trkparms=aid%3D555014%26algo%3DPL.DEFAULT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160706105120%26meid%3Dd1804f2446d44b838ba3f4d7137e7bee%26pid%3D100508%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26&_trksid=p2045573.c100508.m3226

I guess not. I just liked the idea of separating them off to prevent defrosting of fridge/freezer in the event of a trip. Overkill?

OK, so I've decided to rationalise the circuits slightly to reduce the number of runs. Any comments?

Hi All Can anyone recommend a floor levelling screed that is suitable for a 22mm caberdeck chipboard floor. Its going to need to go from 20mm to 0mm. The floor is capable of taking a 50mm screed so no issues with structural integrity but I'm concerned about flexibility. The eventual floor finish is still in debate but most likely engineered oak but possibly carpet if someone gets her way. TA!

Wet room without mosaic tiles?
Barney12 replied to divorcingjack's topic in Bathrooms, Ensuites & Wetrooms
Here's a couple of photos of our MBC slab where we're having a shower former in the downstairs cloakroom. We didn't apply a fall to the rest of the floor just simply positioned the waste and created a former with a sheet of polystyrene. We're having a glass screen and it will only get occasional use. The boxed section is to allow for the trap. -
If this article is still current then the second paragraph seems to answer your question about using plastics? http://electrical.theiet.org/wiring-matters/59/consumer-units/index.cfm

OK, I've been doing some more reading and it all gets even more bonkers. If what I've read is correct then: 1. There is no requirement to protect openings in the metal cu with some form of intumescent seal. I.e. It's perfectly fine to use the great big cable opening on the back of the cu bolted to a wooden plinth and wooden stud wall. 2. The use of plastic trunking, glands etc is perfectly acceptable. Its all madness!! Especially no.1.

Right thats it. I'm off to join the monster raving loony party. The worlds gone fecking mad!!

The one that does my office is the same guy who's doing my house!!! Arghhhhh! (Mind exploding emoti required!)

Bloody hell its minefield! So is an enclosure containing dimmer and relay lighting modules (including 1 amp MCB's on the outgoing side) NOT a consumer unit????
-
So, interesting feedback from my Clipsal C-Bus supplier is that having the dimmer and relay channel units in plastic enclosures is acceptable. I dont see how thats possible? @ProDave @Onoff ???

Doing a bit of research this morning I came across the Lewden boards and RCBO's. The boards are designed for the taller RCBO's and although you've got the negative of the separate neutral and earth tails they are competitively priced compared to the mainstream makes. I.e. https://www.superlecdirect.com/switchgear-and-control-c9/lewden-amendment-3-fuseboards-s247/p-qfsmc20enc-lewden-21-way-modular-metal-enclosure/

Hmmm thats a fair point. I guess getting a few spares in is a potential solution. Why have the major manufacturers not adopted the double pole/no fly lead design?
