My service battens are only 38mm deep. Thus I was thinking about just screwing a 45mm back box straight to the green board.? I was thinking I might just split the batten with the Fein so that the socket is in the middle of the batten run and then cable clip to the batten. Would not be a huge amount of work.?
-
I'm doing the majority of the first fix. I prefer it that way as I'll be sure its right and my sockets/outlets are where I want them!

Ta. Will drop him an email.

Currently TT but only because Western Power won't allow anything else for a 'site supply'. I can swap back to TN once the CU in the house is connected. (This info is what my sparky has told me)
-
That looks bloody ideal. I'm down to 22 circuits if I combine 9 and 11 as per Nick's advise? Will he supply me (my sparky is labour only with me supplying all materials)? The next challenge is I then need to house: 8 channel dimmer with 1amp MCB's (Total: 16 ways) 2 x 12 channel relay with MCB's (Total 48 ways) (Note the actual dimmer and relay modules are an 8 way block)
-
Not for the smoke alarm circuit though I assume? MCB only?

Id like to use RCBO's if I can make the cost stack up. Any negatives to that idea?
-
So is a metal industrial cabinet acceptable under the domestic regs? Surely that's just as fireproof as a metal consumer unit for residential?
-
Yep that can work. CU is in plant room and that SWA is also already in the plant room as it was one of the slab insertions.
-
Yes, I've been browsing the larger CU's and frankly its bewildering! None of the product sites/catalogues make it clear if they meet the 17th Regs.

Scratched bathroom basin
Barney12 replied to Tennentslager's topic in Bathrooms, Ensuites & Wetrooms
Acetone and a plastic spatula. Let the acetone soften the foam for a minute. Keep away from stainless, polished and rubbers/plastics etc. But it wont harm ceramic. As long as it is ceramic. As they always say; test an area first! -
OK, cant do a table!

I thought I post this for a)interest b)to seek the views of the collective! I'm planning on radial circuits and my draft list is as follows. My first thought is it seems like a lot of circuits requiring a big CU! The last two columns are incomplete. Thoughts? (Circuit 16 is for fail safe only. No plans to install the electric rads initially. I've gone with 4 core as that matches the electric radiator control system we have in the flat (it uses the 4th core as a comms/control).

That was my first thought but then started thinking about safe zones for cable runs?
-
Hi All I'm pondering how I get my cable runs (lighting and power) from 1st floor to ground floor. Particularity the lighting runs which are in large part on vaulted areas. In a "normal" house you have the ability to run your cables clipped down the roof trusses but with a fully insulated frame thats a no go. Plus the counter battens make it trickier still. As we are running radial circuits for lighting and power I've got a fair few runs to get to the ground floor. I'm thinking I'm going to have to come down the walls at strategic points but how does that work with safe zones? I'd be interested to know what others have done? A few pics in illustration:

Brendan is more than enough, he knows his onions. Ask Sean P for his engineer joke. It's terrible but brilliant! Well I liked it

Sean and Sean are top guys. Just watch out for Sean P's jokes, he's pulled far too many Xmas crackers in his time! If you've got Brendan, Darren, Sean and Sean all together then frankly sit back and watch!! Of course we want pictures!!

Electric Towel Rail - Above End of Bath?
Barney12 replied to Barney12's topic in Electrics - Kitchen & Bathroom
As it's mounted on a stud wall can I simply run the cable through the wall to a flex plate on the other side of the wall thus outside all zones? -
Due to space constraints I want to put an electric towel rail on the wall at the end of the bath. Obviously that's going to be Zone 1. An IPX4 electric rail doesn't seem to hard to find but is it acceptable to use a flex outlet plate sealed with silicone to achieve the required protection? I can't seem to find an internal IPX4 rated flex plate? Thoughts?

My gran had one of these but it might be a bit too small: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Draper-78643-Expert-Garden-Caddy/dp/B01DSWJ2CS/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1503643151&sr=8-8&keywords=Small+wheelbarrow

Dont feel too bad. They're off for 3 days now!!

Its very similar down here. I would say the only people not working are those who "can't" or "cant be bothered".

They arrived at mine this morning and have started pumping. I too have more pallets than I could desire.
