  1. just checking ... you do have the box upright, handle-up? I've pulled tens of boxes of cat5 over the years and only very rarely get a kink. And of those, I've never had one cause a cable fault.
  2. Once you go over a certain size/ value, NI LABC work it out the same way. They came back to me in the same manner so I just sent in a single-page estimate for the various different broad items (denoting those that we already had firm quotes for) and pointing out that a hands-on selfbuild obviously had considerable savings in trades labour. Accepted without further discussion...
  3. Surestop stopcock under the floor with remote "switch " on the wall above? https://www.screwfix.com/p/surestop-remote-stop-cock-push-fit-15mm/48604
  4. Nearing December. We would've loved habitable for Christmas but are a fair bit off. [shrug] Sitrep: One side of every internal wall PB'd Internal walls and GF ceilings all insulated. First layer of insulation in the attic complete. FF ceiling boarded out. Upstairs mostly firstfixed for electric, plumbing still a bit to do. First couple of sheets of PB (that soundblock is HEAVY!) hung on the GF ceiling. Oh, and I'm sold on MVHR. Was working on a diesel spaceheater for a customer last weekend. Ran it for an hour in the hallway. 17c downstairs, stifling on the balcony. 7c outside that night. Supply air 15+c. Impressive.
  5. The Siga Sicrall sticks well enough to pull individual beads out of the EPS.
  6. I'll check for you today on some EPS, but the Siga stuff we're using seems to stick like sh*t on a blanket, to everything...
  7. looks like it concentrates any forces on the pipe very close to the fitting on the valve. No thanks...
  8. Stelrad (Vita Eco) and Myson (T6 compact) both have centre-valve offerings.
  9. Like Radsnaps but five times the price?
  10. Do they actually have production on GB mainland or do they truck over from NI?
  11. what car do you have now and what will the next one be? Every generation gets bigger...
  12. our build just used heavy polythene
  13. rental.
  14. Reminds me of my time studying in Edinburgh- the course had a segment in the Jewel & Esk College, the result of which was -yes- a barn door toolbox, and a meaty big tap wrench with knurled handles...
  15. The floor insulation won't be "done" because in your quote it says " supply 100mm insulation " which makes it your job. Just like the purchase and install of the wall insulation, loft insulation, and plasterboard too.
  16. have you now checked the motorised valves and their switches for function? Might be worth looking next at the tank stat too?
  17. Looks lovely, and is very much what we aspire to, some time next year hopefully.
  18. stats don't matter as the wiring box interfaces the two ends...
  19. hang on a mo... There's a cavity between timber and block that needs closing with a firestop too don't forget, and it'd expedient to mount the window to that rather than the blockwork.
  20. Odd that the Scottish regs are still so woolly whilst in NI they were very specific about MVHR even in 2012- which is the latest regs... just in case it's ony use: http://www.buildingcontrol-ni.com/assets/pdf/TechnicalBookletK2012.pdf
  21. Is the DIBt essential? It was alleged to me that the only real difference was a self-closing door and loads of documentation...
  22. I vote for sh*t happens, and there's a dodgy capacitor or backup cell somewhere which has been hiding, waiting for a power fail.
  23. car wiper refill with the rearmost rib sliced off?
  24. sorry... 200mm
