Save cash where it can be sorted later, kitchen, bathrooms etc. don’t cut corners with the doors (external) windows, fabric or foundations
-
If it is used as a garage or store and not open to the living accommodation then you don’t need three layers. As you walk over it have they allowed extra for local extra layers for a path of some kind
-
Very difficult to comment on prices without knowing where? Access? Etc etc. but roughly £175/sq meter for 3 layers and flashings doesn’t sound too far out.

Can’t see anything drastically wrong with the window, the piece coming away looks like a lintel. What is is made of?

Should I have a storm lightning conductor fitted?
markc replied to readiescards's topic in Electrics - Other
Lightning protection is a funny area, if you don’t have a conductor then you may get hit and it may do some real damage, But! If you fit lightning conductors you Will get hit often so it needs to be done right. No “protection” conductor is better than a poorly done arrangement. -
I bet no one else would ever notice, DIY is great apart from knowing about all the little things that could have been done differently. Stuff you never get to know about if someone else had done it.

How tall are you or other users? Shower head needs to be above your head and valves/handset at a height convenient for all

I have had alu Venetians and never again, they kink and crease too easily and then look terrible. Recently got some made to measure off eBay, wooden slats and they are really good, although a bit fiddly to fit because of this particular support clip design.

Do you need to span if you are looking to suspend nearer to a wall? What about cantilevered bracket off said wall? If you do need to span you don’t necessarily need a steel beam, could be timber. If steel could also be cold rolled (purlin etc) rather than hot rolled. Loads of possible solutions.

@Danthebuilder I’m pretty sure the parts are still available for that model. Happy to check early next week if you want.
-
Grp thickness g/sm really depends on what is supporting it, larger spans are better done as a sandwich with light weight core
-
A crosscut blade, highest number of teeth for the diameter you can get. The 6-1/2 inch ultra thin blades are fantastic

I like it, would make an awesome aquarium

Good morning and welcome, I have been looking for an old pub for years. I reckon they would make fantastic projects

A couple of Plasterboarding questions
markc replied to crispy_wafer's topic in Plastering & Rendering
I reckon i would use aquapanel, it’s easy, stiff and I hate cutting backer board. -
Loads of sockets under kitchen sinks, not ideal but I don’t know of anything that says you can’t and it’s far better than having the sockets behind the appliance
-
Yes, sort of draw a line around the outside of the holes required giving 10mm or so wiggle room. Might need to be closer at the mounting holes dependant on the pan design

rotten window frame - best product for rot?
markc replied to TheMitchells's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
If a rotten window frame is holding a lintel up then you have serious problems. Regarding the rot, @ToughButterCup has covered it. Bit of localised rot in a corner or cill can be cut out and repaired but when it’s widespread there is only aesthetic bandaids, not a cure -

I’m waiting for someone to say it ……….. 🫢 -
That’s called over thinking and engineering in a problem

First wall hung pan I went for cutting the holes accurately, now I just cut out an area to encompass all the holes just making sure the pan will cover it.

Hi, for the 68 I would use a 6mm ish drill all the way round cut slice across the centre with the disk and then nibble out. larger hole you can score around with the disk, slice centre and then break/nibble out.
