Has it been designed to introduce shading in the summer? if it was mine and I wanted more light in just fit a piece of glass instead of tiles, glass tiles are sometimes available , don’t use lead near glass

My wife wanted me to repaint the render in our last house, I washed it and got away with that, the paint was top quality but had some streaking and a little bit of green algae.

Go for it, I have installed several bought off e-bay for charities no icing up problems but very low demand as well insulated

How important a factor are diminishing returns. These are often used as a reason for not adding sufficient insulation in my way of thinking a more important consideration is the alarming cost of retrofitting insulation. Factor that in and diminishing returns literally go out the window. further there is a step change once insulation levels get above the point where an expensive to install, run and maintain, heating system is no longer needed.

There are two types of hard water mostly calcium carbonate (chalk) is the white stuff heating pipes should not fur up as there is only one lot of water in the heating system and it is rarely changed. Tony’s tips for kettle -only boil the exact amount needed, fully empty and brush out the element after each use - no scale it forms as water cools down hot cylinder, keep on 24/7 at lowest possible temperature. Change fitting and pipe at the top every ten years, immersion every 5 hot water pipes will be ok , tap delivery gauzes and sinters/plastic bits and shower heads, soak in vinegar monthly should not be a problem for the ashp

They say 50mm of CWI and 300 loft insulation insufficient on both counts wall insulation is needed yes and should be done, I would say 200mm last lofts I did were 36 Almshouse flats £7k for top up to 300 but I asked for 400mm —. Same price! -

External fireplace chimney aesthetic problem...help please!
tonyshouse replied to JohnW's topic in Decorating
Yes, efflorescence, basically moisture moving out is carrying with it soluble nitrate salts, most likely sodium nitrate. It will brush off but is forcing off the paint heat will do this on its own even if water is not getting in through the top. cracking is unfortunately expected and will be due to thermal movements, building in lime with lime render would solve most of the problems.- 1 reply

I know but you can get wrinkles in it especially if it is in the sun, I often see cracks in 1.5m long stepped flashings
