  1. could you mount the indoor part of a split system into your incoming side of the MVHR so it cools it right down, a decent KW split system ?
  2. can be done using twist nails and a twist nail gun. Will void build warranty as the truss calcs will no longer be valid if BC catch you without a drawing from an SE telling you do it. Structural items cane be messed about with lightly.
  3. Can you no put the fencing in now under PD before implementing the permission ?
  4. timber frame .... Brick and block all day long. Far superior.
  5. lovely that. klober do a similar one
  6. where is the cill for those bifolds ?
  7. look, the builder has highlighted he needs more money. dayrate let alone hourly is amateur hour at best of times. What does your QS come in at ? If the work is ok Incentive the builder to stay and finish. or not.
  8. slot drain and then take the water away to where your gutters drain to ?
  9. need to be realistic and work £1.5-2.5k m2. VAT on 300k could be the tipping point to knock down and start afresh.
  10. lay the slips so the block sits on them dead flat with the rest/beams. The beams crown on purpose as they are in tension, they flatten when the flooring/load is applied which is why they are designed and not just bought off the shelf and left to the end user to decide where to put them. Cant see you fromr photo but make sure you put DPC roll under the beams where they sit on the wall and the same with slips including any sleeper walls.
  11. cant be that hard its a 1 day course.
  12. personally id flip this and offer them a price with stage pays. Get the plans properly QS'd so you are armed with the real hours each item will take then have a sit down with them and agree a price all in. They build X as agreed and you pay Y as agreed and so on. They have the opportunity to make a bit extra and you dont have to clock watch.
  13. does this pipe serve only your property ? If not then you will need a build over agreement.
  14. I do like the look of the bladeless wind powered gens. Should be more productive than solar as it has the possibility to generate 24x7 https://vortexbladeless.com/
  15. get your project QS'd so you know what you should be paying. Send it to the builders and see what they want to add on to take on your job. The hassle factors for the builder are: you getting paid when/how materials your design.
  16. correct. https://nhbc-standards.co.uk/5-substructure-ground-floors-drainage-and-basements/5-3-drainage-below-ground/5-3-8-durability/ another reason to use block and beam.
  17. your right, technically to the letter of the law planeings are not allowed. But in the real world its a good use to recycle and lower the carbon footprint. They also stop the weeds which is an added bonus.
  18. our local jewsons had loads of tyvec when i was in yesterday.
  19. you could look at using a 300mm trenchblock with a block and beam floor.
  20. tesla powerwall or equivilent to time shift your demand from the grid. I have the powerwall on an hourly time of day tariff and allways pay very cheap rate for my grid electric now whatever time of day. Use greenenergy. Will be able to do the same with electric car if its at home a lot.
  21. read the NHBC guidelines on how to do it properly. You should really have a lead saddle on that ridge as well. the upstand is a min 75mm but dependant on the roof pitch and weather its going to take it can be more. https://nhbc-standards.co.uk/7-roofs/7-2-pitched-roofs/7-2-20-weathering-details/ also give it a wipe over with patination oil as well.
  22. sorry but that looks awful. Should be stepped properly, clipped into the cuts then morter or lead sealent. No more than 1.2 m lengths as well. DIY bodge job.
  23. block and beam allways. Conc is bloody hard work and never bang on level.
