Lay the pipe yourself - or lay ducting and then let him pull the pipe. Is this someone that has been recommended or is it a Yellow Pages job ..?? -

Both tbh - £2600 for 50m of 25mm MDPE laid is well off the mark unless there is something we don’t know (ie it’s a concrete driveway) or he is misunderstanding what you’re asking for. As @dpmiller said, this is a ground works job in reality. -
Horstmann is 5W according to the data sheet so 6 hours day / 120 heating days a year that’s 3.6kWh… or 75p

Plumber doesn’t want the job. That’s a days work and £5 of MDPE. -
Seen a few of these fitted and local guys swear by them as they seem to last https://www.bes.co.uk/horstmann-z222-motorised-zone-valve-2-port-22mm-21057

Hedgehogs don’t need clips in deepflow - they sit well inside and get caught by the tiles. I use these on the bottom of downpipes to catch the rubbish and stop splashing https://www.wickes.co.uk/FloPlast-Leaf-Debris-Interceptor-Gully---Black/p/158828

that is a significant amount of mortar - what are you building ..?! Doubt you’ll get a silo (they are hens teeth unless you’re building an estate) and you have to constantly use the contents over a 2 week period or you get issues. +1 to this, easy and consistent and once you’ve got 3 or 4 tubs in circulation you’ll find they fly through it. It’s also a very quiet and mess free way as no mixing on site and there are no cement bags everywhere.

Working on different zones of an S-Plan
PeterW replied to CotswoldDoItUpper's topic in General Plumbing
Works fine with a decent unit but the small aerosol cans are useless. It is worth finding where the two circuits come back together as one return to the boiler and fitting a pair of isolators whilst it is all drained down. -
Suspended ceiling at openings

+1 to this - shot fired into the concrete and it’s going nowhere. @pocster how are you insulating the insides of the skylights ..? Stop cold bridging. -
Which stove is this ..? Exact make and model please..? Reason for asking is they normally require a minimum of 150mm to non-combustibles and 50mm is very close.
-
Why ..?? Is this a fixed price contract ..?? And anyway, Hybris isn’t equivalent to 160mm of PUR so that cannot be classed as the same. Ask for photos - not unreasonable.

But 0.2 isn’t building regs (new build) so I am intrigued at what the actual BRegs / SAP spec is that has been signed off ..?? If you’ve got 350mm to spare, then I would go with 3 layers of 100mm Frametherm overlapped then a 25mm layer of PIR / K7 below rafters and taped which will give you your VCL if done properly. That’s a massively thick insulation layer and will also work well on sound absorbtion.

That isn’t your spec - who’s paying ..? No because it’s the wrong product - you need something such as Frametherm. 160mm of K7 (which would be 2 layers of 80mm) is not anywhere close to 0.20 - it’s more like 0.13 or lower with insulated plasterboard so something is amiss

We have unlimited rebuild value on ours and it’s around £135pa - a full rebuild is only normally needed for a catastrophic event and they rarely happen so the risk is low and the subsequent premium is low.

Why ..? Buy the standard products off the shelf that are available … https://www.go-banana.com/products/Lighting-Electrical/Electrical-Accessories/Cable-Accessories/Cable-Glands-Grommets/Pro-Clima-Roflex-Airtight-Pipe-Grommets-6623245.html?variant=Roflex 100

So unless you want a £5-700 per annum service contract, I wouldn’t choose the Biodisc. They have grease cartridges on the bearings that need to be changed every 9-12 months and the motors can fail and are expensive. There are much better options

Err yes it is … Knauf Aquapanel is listed as suitable for enclosing log burners due to its heat resistant properties Use Knauf AQUAPANEL® Cement Board Indoor when it comes to hot temperatures. Log burning stoves require surrounding walls that can withstand high temperature and are non-combustible. Knauf AQUAPANEL® Cement Board Indoor provides this protection as it easily withstands radiating temperatures up to 200C and is A1 non-combustible to EN 13501-1. It is the ideal substrate for non-flammable and heat resistant surface coatings and finishes as it will not warp, shrink or expand Are you sure that’s not 400°F..??? This is a standard magnetic stove thermometer and the outer ring is °F, the inner is °C I would say it’s fairly new and your rubbery smell is just the VOCs burning off the stove paint as it hardens.

A full LPG install (including “free” tank) which you have to find a home for..?? Assuming they go for a combi boiler and the rads etc as is, you’ll get a stinking hot house with some nice bills … gas is upward of 40p litre and won’t be coming down soon and it will have a noisy boiler (albeit only when it comes on) in the house. How do you heat your hot water currently out of interest..?? And … in reality if this was me, I would be finding a second hand pressure jet Rayburn on eBay or Facebook and getting that installed - £300 gets you a decent one round here. Add £600 for a tank, £250 for install and change of £1200 that place would be permanently warm … it’s what Rayburns were designed for !!

Think he means ground floor beam and block not onto the ground. +1 to this - depending on your floor thickness you may get away with 450mm but you can always cut the excess off
-
wont have one - this is the buffer not the hot water tank
-
it will - and it’s fine. Quarry’s on mortar are for outside
-
What did you buy and why do you think it is crap ..??
-
DO NOT DO THIS. ..!!! You may be creating issues not sorting them ..! It could be that the defrost etc should be daytime but switching it off forces it to do it the next xyz hours or something after it restarts.

Ok. This isn’t just architects or just brickies, it’s an understanding of unit sizes. Bricks are standard units (let’s stay metric people for ease…) so if you work standard units of 225mm/115mm horizontal and 75mm vertical then you don’t end up with fillers, cuts and partials. It’s why when you open a Jeldwen catalogue that there are standard window sizes that use these divisible units. What happens is that due to aesthetics and client demands getting in the way, then windows become non standard and things stop working units - I’ve seen a set of 4 slit windows with 300mm brick pillars between and that just doesn’t work ! There is usually licence for the brickies to adjust slightly on site but it needs care and attention as sometimes you can create more problems than you solve.

+1 (and a few more) to what he is saying …
