  1. 1:80 to 1:40 is the recognized limits for underground with 1:100 being a real exception usually used on internal soil runs if you can't get the falls. Ideally you want 250mm coverage on the pipes but on sloping ground that can be a challenge so look at using a couple of chambers with back drops to get some depth.
  2. Just out of interest, how to you make the ducts stay "vertical " when they come up through the insulation and slab..? Got mine to do next week....
  3. Plus postage .... I feel a BuildHub bulk purchase coming on - wonder if we can get them embroidered with the logo..? then @Construction Channel can always have one carefully placed in the videos...
  4. I've got some fairly thick rubber tiles to do just that - they sit in front of the bench and make standing for a long period much better ... The Screwfix stuff is also cheap enough that you can do an annual garage clear out and repaint it in a morning as it's pretty quick drying. I plan to do the new garage floor before a single thing goes in there .... who am I kidding ...??!
  5. Its a straight from the tin job - I was surprised when someone on a Landrover forum suggested it but it works. It's also not slippy like some of the epoxy ones can be.
  6. Ok under English law - and specifically under Section 137 of the Highways Act 1980 And Section 42 of the Road Traffic Act 1988, it is an offence to prevent free passage of the traffic or cause wilful obstruction of the highway. That's statute law. If you prevent a vehicle from being able to proceed either to the highway, or along it by obstruction which includes blocking vehicles into driveways including your own, you have commited an offence. And there is no law to stop me stopping you accessing your property ..! So if you are out and can't get onto your driveway it's tough, if you're on your driveway and can't get out then it's obstruction. The case law on this is very clear and amusing to read ..!
  7. I reckon it takes an hour to give a double garage a coat of paint - I paint one or two bricks up the wall and round the edge then the rest gets whacked on with a medium pile roller that goes straight in the bin - tray and all ...
  8. The short answer is the Road Traffic Act and Obstructing the Highway..! Quick way to get 3 points and a minimum £60 fine these days ... you just need a PC having a bad day and they will ticket for it..! I do get your point though - I had neighbours who used to park on my driveway and not care but it took about 6 months of careful negotiations to get them to realise it was mine and not theirs despite it being clearly in front of my house ...!
  9. Screwfix No Nonsense floor paint .... I've tried them all, including the expensive epoxy ones and I've no idea what they put in it but it's superb ..!
  10. Slightly embarrasingly it's not Plastics Express I've used, it's the one @Construction Channel Has linked to ..!! Also used http://drainagepipe.co.uk when they had their Black Friday offer and also got the additional discount.
  11. Plastics Express are excellent - I've used them for most of my stuff and it's all next day.
  12. Never seen one of those before but I like it ...! My usual weapon of choice is a bucket but I usually lose stuff in it ..!
  13. Technical Manual Section 5 from LABC has some really good info on standard foundation detail - TM Foundations
  14. Stove is in the kitchen/diner for us - it has double height ceiling to the dining and single height to the kitchen. Dining has a single supply point (med/high flow) and kitchen has 2 extract points, one near the door, and thus I "hope" this will cause enough of a convection current to move some of the heat about but also circulate it in to the MVHR. Reason for going for that room is its 7.2 x 4.5m and has a high ceiling, where the lounge is 3.5 x 4.5m and the stove kicks out 4.5kw
  15. So that's one for BC and one for SE...?! I'd be interested to see what further calcs or data an SE needs or produces over and above a "600 by 600 is fine" result in 90% of cases.
  16. So I thought that too @ProDave but using private BCO they had last say as to whether it was ok and I was happy with that as they are also assuring for the warranty. On easy ground it's 600x600 here, any more than that is unusual as it's sand/gravel. Even near trees we only went 1.4 and the BCO was surprised at that as he thought it was overkill ..!
  17. That will tear easily. Persevere with the thicker stuff and get a piece of timber to get it into the corners and the edges. If it's not too tight and there is some slack up the walls it will settle ok.
  18. Grown up...? Has made me consider the options though for the room above the garage as although it's unheated it has a lot of insulation all round it.
  19. Doh !!! You've just solved my other problem in a stroke...! I know how to get to the utility and study now...!
  20. And cost... No-one wants to pay for the update files - it used to be big business for the Royal Mail but not as much now - so basically you have diverging data sources. Ive cheated and got the meter installer to add us to the database with the correct address of "Lime Tree House" knowing full well that will become the Meter Point address and is now in every suppliers database...... Just the council to convince now ...!
  21. @Nickfromwales if this is only for providing heat to the one room surely using a tee with an automatic air vent above the level of the final floor would be fine ..??
  22. Snap !!! Doing exactly the same for lights and vents.
  23. I've just completed mine again using the JSH sheet - I have a max of 9kw available at A7W35 (COP 3.2) and I need 2.3kw... but at A7W52 I'm down to COP 2.3 but will boost the DHW with immersions. Also helps to plan out when your heating and water will be needed and draw it out on a block of 24hrs and you can soon see where your ASHP or alternate heat source will kick in to provide heating or DHW
  24. Loopcad is free for 30 days - it's very good too as you can model all the rooms and also get 3D visualisation of the whole building. I've done mine 4 times now - proof is in next week when it goes in..!!
  25. The P/A value also affects the overall floor uValue as I found out. As we have a retrofit and new build element then we end up with a whole raft of different calcs but due to P/A of some we end up with a lower uValue for the same thickness of insulation in a couple of places.
