  1. Why not swap for the Wunda heads that do both flow and temperature ..??
  2. Ok - questions ... Is this part of the structure of the building ..? Or just a retaining wall ..? If just a retaining wall, why 4 course engineering bricks as that is probably the least structurally sound way of doing this and the most expensive. If part of the building, why isn’t it just cast concrete as a semi basement ..?? All questions that need answering ..!
  3. Ikea sale starts tomorrow. If you do use them, join Ikea Family as it gets you an extra 10% off They also do store specific family only offers - for example they did a top end fan oven with pyrolytic liners that’s normally £500 for £300 for family members at certain stores. The downside is they sometimes keep limited stock so you have to be quick.
  4. That depends on your lender. From experience, I’ve seen 3 or 4 lenders who explicitly request a warranty, and there was no mention of accepting professional liability certificates or other similar things. As with everything, get it in writing from a lender as to exactly what they want and accept, and then get them to confirm that the one you have purchased is accepted by them. This stops them changing their criteria part way through the build process.
  5. Mechanical - plumbing, air handling, gas Electrical - alarms, sensors, usual sparky stuff, structured cabling Does that help ..?
  6. I pay £13/ton delivered for a min of 15 tons. That’s standard golden gravel which is 5-7mm
  7. Or to lift you up to change the bulb in the light ......
  8. Makes no difference when you’re digging Just another random thought though - is the neighbour on a septic too ..?? Worth offering to do his connection too at a knockdown price - in exchange for him letting you dig where you want ..??
  9. Or the answer is “yes” but actually how they operate is the challenge..!! I rewrote a Pid algorithm in python to control a sousvide unit and the biggest challenge was when the “shock” of the cold item went into the liquid. Monitoring it took a lot of effort and the problem seems to be when there is a large input - either way - that the pid algorithm has to compensate for. As @JSHarris points out, the characteristics of concrete, air and water are so different that changing one with another is difficult to both predict and control. I watch this with interest..!!
  10. Not needed..! Gun foam will stop the boards moving anywhere - then tag the EPS onto the PIR with more foam. They can’t move about so don’t panic. Then its either wood or tile over the top, 18-20mm to play with is ample.
  11. These rules changed a couple of years back - anything now that has more than one property within the Severn Trent region at least has to be adoptable. We considered hooking into next door but the cost was prohibitive as ST wanted us to upgrade the run in their garden and that was 32m and had to be all accessible at 3m wide.
  12. I have exactly the same issue. We have a concrete liner built “traditional” chimney but they want the “flue and stove installation” signed off by a Hetas qualified installer. I’ve questioned this as the chimney is built as part of the wall (and inspected) and they have already said it is a structural warranty so they will not cover the stove or connections ..... so why do they want Hetas* sign off ..?? (*it will be installed by a Hetas registered installer but after the build is finished just in case anyone is worried ..!)
  13. I still have the scar from fitting one of those Ikea sinks ...... just be aware the edges are sharp and I swear they make the brackets from recycled Stanley knife blades ..!!
  14. Wooohhh..!!! Hold on..!!!! @Ed_MK you may be building a public sewer here if you are doing more than one connection 1. are you connecting the parents to the drain at the same time ..? 2 . Where is that connection going to be ...?? If more than one property is connected then you need the 3m easement rule and you have to build to their standard. Some even insist on you using clay pipes still, or the 160mm polypipe civils stuff. For ease for you there is nothing stopping you running a pair of parallel 110mm upvc pipes all the way to the boundary and connecting them in a manhole at the boundary - bit more digging and a bit more pipe but less hassle. Also don’t forget that moving the parents from cesspit to mains drains is notifiable works to the council for building regs for their property and not just yours.
  15. Errr that’s still wrong ...!! It talks about an easement there too - that seems to be a different matter entirely ..! What you may be creating is a lateral sewer if you are connecting your house to your parents and then to the main sewer. This lateral - which only relates to the section from where the second property joins the run and then meets the main sewer - has to be built to a standard that is adoptable. From memory, Anglian water don’t do sewage so the standard would be the Severn Trent one and they have a decent guide for developers on their website.
  16. Says who...?? WRAS says 350mm... has someone put a typo in the dimensions ..??!!
  17. Contrary to popular belief, induction doesn’t just heat the small section of the pan over the loop - conduction in the pan causes the pan to get hot too so the 23/24/25cm sizing won’t be an issue.
  18. Where in the U.K. are you ..?? Decent sawmill in Alford in Lincs has that sort of stuff at very good prices but shipping will be your problem.
  19. Can you not lift the wall plate as that would be better
  20. Sorry @joe90 forgot you had too ..!!
  21. No it’s me that did it and worked really well. Needs a big (600mm) step DPC but is very effective.

I take it he’s used to building car parks and offices with the random details he’s used on this ...?? You said skylights so not all of it can be parking..?? I would make the minimum possible as parking using concrete and the rest I would build up as a green roof type construction.

So use waterproof concrete ... and that needs to be very well detailed and I would look at alternatives as that’s not a great way to do it ..!

Why are you using concrete as a roof ..??? This sounds like some concrete insulation sandwich your mad architect has dreamt up and tbh it’s barking mad...!!! Unless it’s structural, don’t use concrete ..! Have you got a section drawing ..??

Slightly lost here ... you are putting the rubber on what ..?? Membrane should always go on last - or at least under a removable surface such as pavers - so it can be replaced. Are you suggesting you are sandwiching it ..??
