  1. Hi Looks fine to me - there is 150mm either side of that before the bends. Where is the flow meter..?? (picture is a bit dark) Also, is that the only pump you have in the system..? Is there a three way valve anywhere, and is there a bypass valve...??
  2. Your friend is talking crap. Floor slab goes between the blocks, not on it, so basically it could be anywhere from 0-18" from now, assuming he doesn't start excavating even further.... Get a can of spray paint and mark on your existing wall with "FLOOR LEVEL" with a line and an arrow - then there is no ambiguity.
  3. So if you have 3 phase, where does that come to in relation to your build ..? Is it overhead to the farm or underground ..?? can you draw a sketch ..?
  4. It’s really difficult to calculate as whilst the slab acts as a beam for engineering purposes, the loads are not transferred to the edges and essentially a “normal” slab just has to support self weight plus normal loading which is likely no more than 0.5kN/m2 If you start adding point loads such as piers or load bearing walls then it changes the game. Likewise, use an insulated slab and apply a thickened edge and then wall and roof loads to it and it’s a whole new world !! For pure reference, a non reinforced slab under normal loading of 100kN/m2 will span D/50 with 100% failure tolerance, so a 100mm slab will support a load over a 2m span without failure.
  5. So... you can’t feed an electric shower with a hot feed from a tank - overheat stat will shut it down. You can however fit a digital shower, and with some clever pipework you could use one of the pumped ones to give you a decent flow, just re-use the existing cold feed from the tank to the electric shower as the feed to the riser. Cold leg could potentially be resolved with a return in 10mm Hep2O carefully threaded through the house but costs for that and a bronze pump will far exceed the wasted water it will save. Also consider increasing that tank temp - 75c from the solar and a TMV on the output to blend it down to 52c will give you a lot more useable hot water.
  6. GBF in 2014..... knowing what we do about the moderation policy on there, it probably did get queried but the owner didn’t like it ....
  7. Leave it alone. Regs only come into force if you change it or sell the property.
  8. That has got to be the most dangerous piece of advice I have seen on sorting chimneys ..!!! Next person comes along, removes the cap and the balloon (both temporary...) and then gets It swept and a stove connected and it leaks smoke into the attic..??!! If you decommission a chimney, do it properly and and safely.
  9. @Nick1c did you get chance to have a look round their clearance warehouse ..?? It’s an Aladdins cave of serious high end bathroom stuff at silly prices. Saw some great stuff in there but the risk is that it doesn’t all match. https://www.cphart.co.uk/waterloo-clearance/
  10. Looks good. Have those rings got steel rungs on them ..? It gets very odd with the rules about restricting access over a certain depth and BCO may want something adding to the top of the brickwork so beware.
  11. But isn’t that the point ..?? You can spec what you want - want extraction with a Gamma cistern plate ..? Ok - it has a product code. Same with all of them - there are limited product ranges stocked so you see them more, but everything is available. Bit like your shower wall drain - when I checked with Geberit, there had been a handful in stock in 18 months in the UK. But it’s still available on stock via the systems from Germany so spec what you want. Half the point of this forum is to try and help people with their problems by sharing information - it’s saved me and others several thousands of pounds in both resolving problems and finding decent suppliers. I get the point that it’s others money to spend, but if you can save 10% on your bathroom it’s something to be able to spend elsewhere.
  12. Does it ..?? The cisterns are the limitation factor and you can swap them - you can also buy the replacement cisterns (Sigma, Kappa etc) as a cistern only and the frame too - you can mix and match, build your own etc. The Geberit system is very flexible - it’s just limited by what the vendors will sell you as they want to shift standard units.
  13. So I’ve taken your “duff” logic and applied some real world to it. There are are essentially two Geberit frames - they are interchangeable and the only difference is the cistern on one has a vent take off. Pick one - they are £20 difference. The rimless I sent was for Vitra - very good brand, not made in Eastern Europe like a lot of the porcelain, and is the mid range in most of your shops. I don’t want rimless, you do ... I found and example of what you were looking for ... Trojan are probably one of the best brands on the market for UK made heavy acrylic baths. Properly manufactured, not 4mm crap with some chipboard glued on the bottom. Happy for you to spend your own money, just passing on 20 odd years worth of experience of buying this sort of stuff to try and save you a bit ...
  14. You do know that Bathstore was a franchise and 80% of its sales were online ..?!! They make a decent margin on all the online stuff so not surprising they matched their own prices ...
  15. Geberit frames - £125..? Here Vitra Rimless Wall Hung - with soft close lid - £175 - Here Freestanding bath..? £400-800 is about right so £400 is cheap..!
  16. Good luck with that .... Most of the smaller showrooms don’t get anywhere like the online vendor discounts. They don’t have the margins to give you anything more than 1-3% more than the ticket prices unless it’s a sale where they are shifting stock.
  17. So go and look, find the brands you like and then buy online for 20-30% less....
  18. So.... acrylic feels like ...... acrylic .. porcelain, well it feels remarkably like ... porcelain ... You can “feel” quality with baths if you push and sit in them, and see if they flex, but I can also find you a decent bath for less than £200 (look at Trojan Baths) and it’s just horses for courses
  19. If it’s lacquer then assuming it’s a hard lacquer you need something like HG Laminate Gloss as it will re-coat the top layer https://uk.hg.eu/products/laminate/hg-laminate-protective-coating-gloss-finish-product-70-1l
  20. What gremlins.....? ?
  21. Yep - that’s what Western Power said to me for pure budget purposes. Wavecon is about the £40-60/m mark depending on the size needed. Over about 100m you may perversely be better asking for 3 phase as it’s cheaper.
  22. Welcome to fluid dynamics ... So in Hep2O and all copper fittings, the internal size of the bore is equal or larger than the pipe bore. Only valves have smaller bores unless they are marked as full bore. The issue is one of fluid dynamics, and not just about the size of the pipe. Most 90 degree elbows and tees are the same internal size but very tight when it comes to the direction change. This causes significant slowing of the flow as the pressure is lost in the pipework as a secondary reverse flow is set up as the water “bounces” off the end of the pipe. You can test this by using pressure gauges before and after bends. These are also incredibly damaging pressure waves as they can in time make joints weaker - the trick is to smooth the flow, and using street elbows in copper, or long radius elbows as they are sometimes called, reduces this issue. The slower the bend, the less the flow reduction due to pressure reduction from back pressure.
  23. @zoothorn go shopping. Go out, go find something to do and come back at 3pm this afternoon. Let them get on with it and it will be fine
  24. Are you going straight through the corner and out the front ..?? Has that been sized by an engineer as it’s very slim for something doing 5m of brickwork which I assume is 9” (otherwise it’s two side by side ..??)
  25. He would need all his FGas certs too .... it’s not the install as they are pretty much the same - I’ve had a Sanyo one for about 8 years - it is the servicing of the gas side.
