Evening, what's the thoughts on clearance all round on an enclosed shelf for raising a 700W microwave up in the air to give more worktop space? Thinking to construct from white painted flooring grade chipboard with stained wood trim. Bit hesitant about drilling the wall as rented student accommodation etc.

Small room floors with UFH - mesh or fibre?
Onoff replied to curlewhouse's topic in General Construction Issues
That's about my bathroom size. TF I laid A142 mesh as I FORGOT to add the fibres! -

I see it that the 25mm EPS provides protection from sharps coming up through pthe sand layer and penetrating the DPM. The first foot fall on the DPM will leave a big depression. At least with EPS you've some protection against that.

Right...practical cap on... I've found with the "institutions" that a verbal complaint, such as with the NHS or to the head teacher in the playground sees aims to pacify you but often nothing gets done. The only thing that works nowadays is formal letter of complaint backed up with a copied email. For the 99% of "parents" who moan only one writes. And they don't want OFSTED seeing that without it having been dealt with. The thing is with big organisations that they all have "targets", "annual reviews" and complaints procedures. Everyone down the line is also fearful for their job security so doesn't want a black mark. I would write a formal letter of complaint, to the top, giving dates and naming names. Say obviously about the emotional & financial turmoil this has caused, that you would never have undertaken "this" if you hadn't been led to believe "that". And copy in the FSA. Google the lenders press and advertising slogans if helpful and try and throw that at them. Add in having a dig about their environmental policy (you should be able to find it online) and that denying you funds hardly fits in with it. Add in "being non supportive of self build, low energy homes etc". Do this on the basis of nothing lost nothing gained for a couple of hours of your time. Good luck.- 62 replies

Lidl..... I use the place quite often as I get off the train and it's there. But I reckon they're being sly and whacking their prices up and then by some margin. For instance I bought a hands free Bluetooth thing that clips on the sun visor. Pretty sure it was £9.99. A few months later it's back but at £11.99! Same with a USB video grabber. Was £14.99 now £16.99. The items aren't constantly in stock. Admittedly they work really well. I reckon it's a case of you tell all your mates how good such and such is so when they restock etc. Croissants have gone up too, were 29p now 35p! -

So sorry to hear this. No chance of getting the cottage in reasonable order and renting it out whilst going the caravan route? Maybe build the shed/garage first for temporary storage space etc.- 62 replies

Does it matter whether it's the ordinary "red" PVA or the more expensive "black", waterproof stuff?- 63 replies

140A inverter welder for £70??? Digital readout etc for easy amp setting. Looks a bit of a bargain. I wonder what they'll say on the welding forum... https://www.aldi.co.uk/workzone-140-amp-inverter-welder/p/076597143942300 Edit: From comments on the MIG welding forum it seems a steal for the money. There's a question over the duty cycle at full whack but it should suffice for my odd need to weld something. Also the option to add a fan externally. If it goes t!ts up within 3 years I'll put the refund towards a Parweld. I've just ordered one. If anyone is considering one I can send them a discount code for £10 off of their first Aldi order. Brings it down to £59.99 & that's delivered. -
You only pay for insulation ONCE which is a bit of a motto on here. You pay for fuel in whatever form FOREVER. Yes it's worth it imo.

I'm guessing it was a 16th thing seeing that 2007 date as in only sockets that might be used to power something portable outside etc. I remember always wondering about people dropping extension leads down from upstairs to power their lawnmowers.....

Entro Electrics of Bristol did some notifiable works at the property on 4 Feb 2007, the cert number was 1752850. I wonder if they put the rcbo in?

That's what I was half getting at. For some reason I thought it could actually be GOOD for the soil?

A plastic cu is generally considered a C3 "if under wooden stairs" etc.

Late to this, fighting off man flu or something. The C2 ref the voltage sticker missing: These stickers are lets face it yellow to warn of a hazard or danger. Deeming it C2 as in potentially dangerous...well it's only a danger if you take the lid off but then without it there is no other warning. Maybe I'm in a pedantic mood but I don't disagree. Get a couple of other quotes from reputable electricians. Be interested in the board layout. Is that 100mA RCD before all the mcbs but not the rcbo? If it is before the rcbo as well you could have a potential discrimination problem between the 30mA and the 100mA unless the 100mA is time delay / S type.

I've been using Lumberjack by Everbuild. Smells like you'd expect this sort of stuff to.
