  1. Silicone as it's flexible. I think I'd masking tape both wall and floor, apply the silicone then peel off the tape.
  2. Can't see pikeys on that list? Lucky for you!
  3. No, I meant would a green roof help lessen the visual impact and maybe help swing things. Also, for the purpose of the model would painting the roof a darker grey, to blend with the "lake" colour be better?
  4. How about painting the roof the same "grey" as the lake?
  5. Green roof(s)?

    Buildings in the landscape

This is a good book. Lent it to a neighbour I think years ago and never got it back! https://www.amazon.co.uk/Complete-Book-Underground-Houses-Build/dp/0806907282 Cheap enough I might grab another copy.
  7. If it's good enough for the Toby Carvery... Seriously now, if not scourer then that flower arranging stuff maybe?
  8. Broccoli?
  9. If I think I'll have a look thru my Telemecanique (now Schneider) stuff but think the styles will be too old.
  10. Talk to Peter Gibb at Medlocs in Crayford he might be able to help you (and will post).
  11. I built a couple of horizontally polarized, trough antennae for friends locally. Designed for optimum performance 538MHz i.e dead centre of Band A. They work a treat. A trough antennae is really just a corner reflector with the vertex removed and replaced with a plane reflector - which lends itself to fitting against a wall...or gable. These are vertically polarized, imagine turned thru 90deg for horizontaliy polarized. Waltham's signal is horizontally polarized. So a corner reflector: And a trough antennae, as above but with the vertex taken off: The construction can be sheet ali or mesh. For the first I used sheet ali. The second one was done in 1/2" galv mesh. If mesh is used it needs to be ideally 1/12 wavelength or smaller. I made the dipoles from 8mm ali tube from memory. I reckon the plane reflector could be hidden by the cladding on a gable then just have the two wings in mesh and the dipole on show. Admittedly probably not the off the shelf solution the OP was after! I'll maybe redo the maths later as I've mislaid my original paper calcs. They're don't come out small btw. +1 on www.aerialsandtv.com , great company. Scroll down to the table above the picture and see their recommendation for an aerial: http://www.aerialsandtv.com/walthamtx.html Tbh they're really nice people to talk too. Give them a ring.

    Asbestos!

My roof is covered in moss. Will leave it on when it comes down.
  13. I'd be careful about ingesting too much. Some concrete additives can render you quite ill...

    Asbestos!

My FiL used to work in a long since closed local power station. They had a raw asbestos filled panel fall from a crane hook in the turbine hall and it went everywhere when it hit the floor. He's had chest X-rays annually every year paid for by the company since and on into his retirement. Pretty sure I read on the website for our local tip that if you double bag it and only take so much per month you can get rid of there still. Something I need to eventually consider for the old roof panels on my tumbledown stable block.
  15. Silly question but do you know what transmitter you want to pick up from? It'll be the one the majority of the local aerials are pointing at. ...and do any of your gables point that way, or near enough. Cunning plan...maybe.
  16. Just CT1 a Cat-5 grid module off a data plate up where nobody can see it...
  17. No chance you could just bond without drilling? http://www.ct1ltd.com/our-products/power-grab-n-bond/
  18. As an aside I just bought a bag of 100 RJ45 plugs from Electricfix and the quality is good. Had some Maplin ones a while back and they were dire! I suspect @Nickfromwales already has the tools?
  19. CPC do various punch down splitters, e.g: http://cpc.farnell.com/pro-signal/bt-855/coupler-wired-cat5e/dp/CS13869?CMP=KNC-GUK-CPC-GEN-SHOPPING-PRO SIGNAL-CS13869&gross_price=true&mckv=sCrTR0azz_dm|pcrid|72935592137|kword||match||plid||pid|CS13869|&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIuryR1pSQ1wIVyZ3tCh0d0AhJEAQYASABEgJ2WfD_BwE
  20. Try £2k a year on oil!
  21. You know it makes sense! Put the saving towards a Raspberry Pi and a small (or large) flat screen set in a fire place and indpendent of the telly displaying the log fire of your choice! ...you'll also be able to play Space Invaders on it!
  22. I knew I was right!
  23. Make a carpet bag then they'll just think you're a bohemian hipster! Frost Auto do some carpet and vinyl dyes.
  24. On some level I agree with your sentiments but... For a start wait until you're I dunno, in your 70s (tin hat on ) or your partner / child(ren) needs the sort of care that means time to go and chop wood just isn't there... I absolutely DREAD the day, with my crap pension forecast, when I'm old and in this house still with leaks and high fuel bills. I LOVE the idea of sitting somewhere dry, warm and safe looking out of big 3G glazing and knowing a big bill for (in my case) oil won't be landing on the mat. You pay for insulation ONCE, you'll be paying for "fuel" even if "free" in other ways even if it's just the labour to chop it or the back boiler burning out periodically. Anyway, you're ALL wrong. You should be going UNDERGROUND and letting the mass of earth and stable year round temperatures work for you! Tin hat on too!
