Two Part Wooden Curtain Rail Joining Screw Loose
Simplysimon replied to steveoelliott's topic in General Joinery
araldite the hole and smear the screw with light oil if you wish it to come back out. screwing it in will allow the araldite to conform to the thread -
if there's enough to lap it over then a double sided dpm joining tape others available
-
take a look at the medite site here for inner and outer layers

seen a lot worse, keep patching it up for 3-4 years

Planning Water Feed for En-Suite Bathroom
Simplysimon replied to MortarThePoint's topic in General Plumbing
mmmm... almost as bad as the en-suite in the bedroom without separating walls/doors, get up at 15min difference and don't worry about the taps being run -
Planning Water Feed for En-Suite Bathroom

can you reach the basin from the shower or is it likely you'll have more than one person in the bathroom at the same time? -

your roof is the nearest with what covering? and the roll of felt is? normally felt is taken up the upstand and if the covering from next door is down over it, it shouldn't leak. the only issue would be from splashing but that wouldn't account for 'huge amounts of water' getting in. has this happened since roof re-done next door? as your roof looks as though its come to the end of its life at the upstand. if only leaking since next doors roof work i would asking them for contribution. don't ask, don't get.

Keystone lintels how much !! Alternatives?
Simplysimon replied to Ronan 1's topic in RSJs, Lintels & Steelwork
well i'm stuffed then, the exterior of my house is either render board or fibre cement cladding over timber battens 😃 -
if all sandstone i would be looking at a mix of dressed and random, i feel all random is too much. roughcast especially is a traditional look if self coloured saves painting! at the end of the day it's your property and choice.

a few of us have gone down the route of blown cellulose, as it's blown under pressure it ends up quite a firm, semi dense insulation which won't sag, also no chemicals, well other than boron.

not exactly 'eco friendly' there are different insulators with better eco credentials and decrement delay. for all the cost of ufh pipes it is well worth considering doing

window sills used to slope towards the window due to condensation on the glass running down. if it sloped the other way then the water would run onto the furnishings. a deeper sill protruding further into the room will allow an apron to be placed under the sill to hide any gaps or missing render. a thin bed of mortar would bed the new sill if it needs that much or a tube adhesive if less. the adhesive may be sufficient to hold it but would be better with some screws or dook the joints and nail it down.

perhaps, however, if you fit a stud at each end to your head and sole plate, then fit insulation prior to fitting a stud and work you way along it will be a lot easier. the nailing centres, does this take into account d4 glueing sheets to both sides of the stud and therefore the increased racking strength?

would do both, low expansion foam to the back with mortar to the front. have you given the spiders notice to quit as they'll need time to find a new home?
-
depends, the sandstone, is it going to be stone or a manufactured one, dressed or random or a mix? the render, smooth or roughcast?

unforseen cavities/cold bridges in timber frame help
Simplysimon replied to hotnuts21's topic in Heat Insulation
i certainly don't see any reason why filling steel full of foam would be an issue, certainly no issue behind the timber -
want to take bets he'll say he would have to use the largest 🙄

openreach have installed fibre at a pole near us and run it underground in front of our house to the next pole. we hadn't banked on going landline as it had a lousy speed and was going to stick with the mobile broadband we currently use as openreach were talking about years to connect fibre. as it's now there are the connection made at the nearest pole or do they connect mid run?
