  1. Hi folks I have had a new door fitted and the guys that did it weren’t the best. The house is owned by a housing assoocation and they don’t care too much about there houses to be honest. I’ve attached pics of the way it was fitted. it’s a Upvc door set and they fitted flush to the vertical battons no problem there. Then they propped up the bottom of the door which has a low threshold attached to it with a Batton. They didn’t use a sill. told me didn’t need one and batton will do the job. Is this done correctly? As it’s a bit draughty I’d love to improve it to be more airtight.
  2. Is it ok to seal around multilayer pipe with silicone sealant? I read on uponor's website that you should not use silicone sealant on there multilayer pipes as it can damage the pipe. I've sealed loads of pipe penetrations in my house with silicone and never knew this.
  3. Good afternoon lads, I'm preparing to install some outdoor Poe Cameras. I've some spare conduit/ducting going through my wall, its inside a box on the side of my house and ends up under my stairs were my ethernet cables terminate. could i use this ducting for my camera cables? would save me from drilling a hole through the house, im planning on having the nvr in there anyway. I'm wondering how i would get the cables inside the outdoor box though without it looking like crap?
  4. thanks for all the replies lads. some helpful tips there to improve my security which i will implement.
  5. I probably am overthinking it. Still though what's the point of security alarms if they don't actually work. What I worry most though is someone entering my home during the night when my family is sleeping. That was the main reason i bought my alarm.
  6. I've been thinking about home security recently. its got me thinking that my home which i thought was secure may not be at all. I have a Hkc alarm system which is supposed to be a good alarm. what worries me though is the alarm panel is near the front door. what's to stop a burglar from just ripping it off the wall and throwing into water? would the internal/ external alarm sirens still sound if this were to happen? my house has thumb turn locks with a letterbox and I've just saw videos of people using tools to reach through the letterbox and unlock the front door. So a burglar then has 30 seconds entry time to rip my alarm panel of the wall then there free to walk around my home. could this actually happen? or am i worrying for nothing? If anyone has any good suggestions to improve my security I would be grateful.
  7. Ok so it makes sense why its not water tight around the inner seal. I've the door compressing a bit tighter now although it doesnt look water tight to be honest. As i said above the sealent at bottom of the frame is peeling. that could be my main problem area?
  8. thanks for the reply. actually that makes sense. I have the door compressing tight now at the bottom it wasn't very tight. I have noticed that the bottom of the frame had some sealant where it sits on the threshold but that's peeling away. I'm thinking that would allow water to enter the threshold. would it be a bad idea to run a bead of silicone along the bottom of the inner seal and frame, to stop water from getting inside?
  9. thats actually the sill you see outside its all in one. threshold/sill. ill get a pic tomrorow when its light
  10. My front door is letting water in when it rains heavy. The water gets into the threshold and drains ok but if too much water gets in, it finds its way into the house filling the channel where the inner seal sits and over flowing into house. Anyone have any idea what I could do to fix this issue. I marked with a blue line in the picture where the water seeps through into the house, fills underneath the channel where the seal slots into.
  11. Thanks for the reply would of been handy though if it existed
  12. Hi bit of a strange question. friend of mine bought a house a few years old. House was plumbed for an en-suite but never connected ( pipes are inside walls supposedly) is there anyway one can get a hold of the plumbing drawings somehow? For an older house? would make plumbing the en-suite handier he thinks.
  13. yes my house has press fittings but also they have used compression. I'm in Ireland, I think its an Irish company probably not very popular. They sell an adaptor/insert that can be used on standard compression fittings. looks to be very handy especially for the DIY type like me.
